? Free downloads ???????????

Recommended Posts

Just had an e-mail advertising a music site.

It offers a free download, presumably as a taster of music supplied, acid house etc.

The site is :-

www.xpressbeats.com

Has anyone dealt with this site? Are the bona fide or rip-off merchants?

They are a legit download site but make sure that you read the Terms http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/scared.gif

QUOTE
You acknowledge and agree that the material and content contained within the Website is made available for your personal non-commercial use. However subject to you obtaining any and all necessary permissions from the copyright owners of the musical compositions contained on the relevant tracks and obtaining any other necessary permissions from any other third party individuals, organisations, unions or guilds you may also "burn" the track to CDR and play the track while working as either a paid or unpaid DJ.

In other words, the onus is on you to obtain (and pay for) copyright permission from each artist and the MCPS for each track you download if you burn it to CDR or use it at a gig.

Please be aware that when you complete a purchase, the purchased track is instantly impregnated with a "watermark". This watermark identifies your membership details and the time you made your purchase. We constantly monitor the internet and P2P websites for breaches of our and our licensors copyright emanating from tracks originally purchased from the Website. If we detect that you have without our authority either personally or by way of assistance/facilitation of any third party, copied, reproduced, transmitted, published, displayed, distributed, commercially exploited or created derivative works of our or our licensors material and content then we will (a) suspend your user accounts, including any outstanding credits and (b) inform any relevant authorities empowered to act upon such unauthorised activity and/or copyright owners who's copyright may have been breached for them to take such necessary action as may be required. This will mean that we will pass on your contact details to them.

Could this eventually be used by the MCPS to identify those DJ's who are downloading for public / commercial use but who are not paying for the licence to do so?.

It's OK, it's CDpool. I use xpressbeats occasionally - they were first with Roman Flugel - Geht's Nocht, and Freemasons - Love on my mind http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/notworthy.gif

Check out the Chilli Lopez track whilst you are there BTW http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/cool.gif

Even more than that - The watermark bearing the members details, embedded in each track would mean that if Mr Legit-paying-per-track then copies a few tunes onto a bunch of CDR's to hand 'round to his/her mates, and then those mates make copies, rip to their hardrives etc, then the watermark, identifying the original passer-on/pirate/"I'll do yer a copy" merchant stays intact with each and every copy, of a copy, of a copied copied copy too. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wacko.gif

Making one copy for a mate, could, in a very short space of time spread out to dozens of copied instances - all tracable back to the original user. A bit like breaking a window and leaving your business card amongst the glass fragments. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wallbash.gif
