Gary 0
Gosh! 30 years ago !!!! We've made it to 1975 already; The year that saw Queen rapping rhapsodically in a Bohemian way, for 9 whole weeks at No.1. The Bay City Rollers with their Tartan Trouser Turn-ups also managed 9 weeks at No.1 this year, although it was between two songs - Bye Bye Baby (6 weeks) and Give a little love (3 weeks). Rod Stewart drifted upto the top spot for 4 weeks with Sailing, then got sunk by David Essex asking us to "Hold me close" for 3 weeks (check his doctors note first) http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/huh.gif Also managing 3 weeks in pole position were Tammy Wynette, with "Stand By your man" (Lucky she didn't release the David Essex tracks really... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/attentionwhore.gif ), Windsor Davis and Don Estelle (from "It ain't 'arf 'ot Mum") sung of the "Whispering Grass". The rather retentive Stylistics woo'd us with "I can't give you anything (but my love)" for 3 weeks also. Several artists attained 2 weeks at No.1, these lucky guys were: Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel: Make Me Smile (Come up and see me), Telly Savalas (Kojak): If, Mud: Oh Boy, 10CC: I'm not in love, Art Garfunkel: I only have eyes for you, and David Bowie: Space Oddity. Following up with just one week in the number one spot were Status Quo, with Down Down..Tymes with Ms Grace, Johnny Nash: tears on my pillow, Billy Connolly with D.I.V.O.R.C.E, and that poor rained-on Bus Driver; Typically Tropical singing of his forthcoming holiday...to Barbados... But...What was your most playable No.1 from this year?
YourBigEvent 0
Still play Steve Harley and Queen, but voted Queen as it is the better song ! BTW Did you know that the 'If' is the shortest title to ever get to Number One ? .....but what do I know ? Paul Smith 0
I went for Cockney Rebel - it was 'out of fashion' for a few years but goes down well again now. I only play Bohemian Rhapsody if specifically asked for as there are a lot of other good Queen songs to play if someone just asks for 'something by Queen' Paul http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/cowboy.gif
Dukesy 0
Steve Harley is the 'most played'....and I am a Queen fan! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/inlove.gif
brianmole 0
Cockney rebel for me. ADS, how can Bohemian Rhapsody possibly be more playable at a disco unless you are doing background music? http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wacko.gif
Corabar Steve 0
Bo Rap can kill the dance floor (with the exception of the "Wayne's World" bit at the end) Poeple never seem to tire of Cockney Rebel (& it goes well with Stuck in the middle with you, another one that never seems to go out of fashion) Steve... Mad bad & dangerous to know Better to study for one hour with the wise, than to drink wine with the foolish. The opinions of Corabar Steve are not necessarily those of Corabar Ltd or any of it's subsidiary companies <a href="http://www.djassociates.org"><img src="http://www.djassociates.org/anims/compres_banner.gif" alt="Join the DJ Associates Disc Jockey Association" border="0" width="468" height="60"></a>
Gary 0
QUOTE (brianmole @ Jul 19 2005, 07:08 AM) Cockney rebel for me. ADS, how can Bohemian Rhapsody possibly be more playable at a disco unless you are doing background music? http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wacko.gif Theres a certain tongue-in-cheek sing-a-long element who request (and singalong to) Bohemiam Rhapsody. Plus, if you declare that it's a tune which is "impossible" to dance to you normally get a group of girls desperate to prove you wrong, who then dance along to it... Theres no doubt that theres a great deal of musical and artist talent in Queens Bo Rap, but its also treated as a novelty/comedy/fun thing too. (A bit like that pink DJ gear you were mixing on on Sunday Brian... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif As for Steve Harley & Cockney Rebels "Make me smile - Come up and see me" .... anyone else drop any weird effects into the gaps, where the music stops abruptly 2 or 3 times during the track. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/huh.gif

(A bit like that pink DJ gear you were mixing on on Sunday Brian... biggrin.gif Oh, I know, I did a disco 2 weeks ago where I had to play Bo-Rap (great name) and it went down a storm to the 4 people on the df who asked for it, whilst everyone else was singing along. I played it a) because it had been heavily requested by a specific group of guests b) because the dancefloor had emptied and I was not interrupting the party set. I just don't think you can say that bo-rap is or can be most playable No.1 from this year at a disco. That pink thing I was mixing on was John Kidds console http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/tongue.gif http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/kid.gif QUOTE As for Steve Harley & Cockney Rebels "Make me smile - Come up and see me" .... anyone else drop any weird effects into the gaps, where the music stops abruptly 2 or 3 times during the track I usually use the last drop to 'pause' and start the new track - this method has great impact. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/smile.gif
mick 0
I agree with Brian Bohemien Rhapsody is really not the stuff people dance to but I always get asked for it. I tend to play it in the Buffet Break or try to get the people to sing along to it either at the end or during a suitable change of tempo point. I somtimes put some slow dances on for the people who are leaving before the end and would put it on before cranking it up again. The Cockney rebel track is the one for me as it was playing on my first date in 1975 http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/inlove.gif but that's another story http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/whistling.gif
YourBigEvent 0
The last time I played Cockney Rebel was when I needed to turn an amp off and on again, to reboot it, it is a great song because it has that 2 second gap which was ideal. .....but what do I know ? John Kidd 0
Steve harley without a Doubt, but Bohemiam Rhapsody is Great and has never failed me with a dance floor, try using at the end of a Party set, the actions you can get are fantastic. Had it as a first dance once aswell.
