Went out to a friends on Friday for an Indian take-away. Whilst the kids played outside the adults sat down to eat - the host had put on Busted's live album ( http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/fear.gif ) for some inexplicable reason and, because I am a dj, I got asked to choose from their varied (NOT) cd collection. I chose ELO's Greatest Hits!

Went down a storm - one of those bands where you know all the words but never realised you did!

The song of the weekend for my audience seemed to be..Whitney Houston - "I wanna dance with somebody".

Every single girl in the place was "singing" http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/fear.gif the chorus' and most of the verses at the top of their voices.

Most visually appealing was the same flock of birds dancing very energetically to Outkasts "Hey ya" (which got seamless looped for a lovely long time during the "Shake it, shake it" bit... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/attentionwhore.gif

My function was my favourite Mountain Mardi Gras (ski season here in New Zealand). It was the 10th one I've played at and the biggest song by far was:

Fatman Scoop & Crooklyn Clan - Be Faithful.

What a huge song for a pub crowd in a good party mood!

Almost identical to our fun day, except we had to play lonely twice for the kids to sing along to. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif

This Week - I Would Walk 500 Miles

2 of my weddings last week had a large Scottish contingent so being as unoriginal as I am I started both with this song and the dance floor filled with everyone clapping & singing along.

The 3rd had a large group of people from England so I played it at the start as a dedication to all those that had travelled 500 miles to be there and it received the same reaction http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif well if it works......

The other song that stands out as

A. Being requested at all my gigs last week when it normally isn't asked for that much and

B. Going down a storm is....

Oasis - Don't look back in anger

I've never used it before in 15 years of DJing, infact the only time Leo Sayer has ever come out of our PA is when he was a guest at a party we were doing & he did a turn, singing accapella.

New to the forum guys so trying to add a few things.

Weekend just passed we did an engagement party on the friday in coventry where we was asked to play house music all night....started with some summer favourites:

Groovejet and Tim Deluxe before the dancefloor packed out for Needin' You - David Morales.

Takes me back!

Saturday we was asked to do a wedding at a lovely hotel (very expensive) just outside of Coventry. Dancefloor packed from the very start after starting with Rock DJ - Robbie Williams....I love it when the first song gets them going or could it have been they were already merry!

Sunday was a mare but appreciated.....Christening in the daytime with the sun beating down onto a marque!!! not funny as they wanted me to play old skool to a marque of about three people everyone else outside enjoying the music but the kids indoor wanting RnB so had to try and mix between the two with success.

Tune that I enjoyed and had them dancing outside on the grass....Love Sensation - Loleatta Holloway (Ride On Time sampled this track if you are not aware of it).

For Now and Till Next Time

YOU SHOULD BE DANCING! YEAH!

Cheers

Any 'gay' functions I've gig'd for has been really fun! Not all particular types of functions are the same.....

I think there are phases of musical revival for any music genre and in particular, the indie, old skool flavor, cheese and 80's music is currently popular again.

Wasn't it Vinnie that was asked for George Formby recently?

Vin?

Hi

Last weekend, got caught up in doing an oldschool mix, it went down a total storm, well surprised.

The mix consisted of...

Bamboo, bamboogie

Bucketheads, The bomb

JX, Son of a gun

Livin' Joy, Don't stop movin'

Outhere Brothers, Boom boom boom

Shaman, Ebaniza good

Faithless, Insomnia

Chemical Brothers, hey boy hey girl

Really enjoyed the buzz of making it up as I went along and finding that it worked perfectly.

Oh yeah, the best song for reaction of the night was, Chef, Chocolate salty balls.
