After much planning and managing to get the day off work I had totally forgotten about going to Plasa. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/014.gif I had received my tickets and everything! But didnt wake up until 12.00pm, as I have been so busy. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/oops.gif

I am so disappointed. I might try and go on Wednesday as the tickets are valid for the whole show.

Enough of me moaning, would be good to find out your views and if its worth me visiting!

Couldn't make it again this year, haven't lost any sleep over it though, and up in Earls Court again next week, then NEC the week after so I have enough miles to do without going 250 miles to see rubbish.

.....but what do I know ?

PLASA? dunno yet, too big!

However, I've just got back from the DJ magazine T-scan awards, at which No-one won more awards than Denon, and they were truely excellent,

Plenty of pictures

taken, though hopefully not the ones of me...and one of the Denon DJ ladies mixing in up...

Such negativity! D'oh!!

Well, for what it's worth, I really enjoyed PLASA yesterday although I only covered about 1/3 of what I wanted to before 'exhibition legs' got the better of me.

The new DN-S3500 is looking like it's going to give Pioneer a run for their money, superb bit of kit, well thought out, more intuitive than previous Denon devices but still lacking a wave display. Gary, it's a winner. The Allen & Heath Xone:3d mixer/mp3 controle surface sounds very promising, but it looks like it's still a prototype to me http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/533.gif

We also saw an 18 year old at the Gemini DJ comp (upstairs) who did an awesome set, full of innovative tricks which I have seen no other DJ do in the past.

LED lighting evolves more and more, prices are more realistic. There is loads more for me to see, and it's a great opp to network with industry professionals, so I'm going back Wednesday.

I also found the Funktion-one audition room. Their speakers really are music to my ears http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/9.gif and I would love to use them. So, I sat with their sales chap for a good while getting the entry level config:

2 x Resolution 1 2-way 425W full range enclosures (need to be bi amped)

1 x Minibass 212 600W dual 12" bass enclosure

1 x XO1 crossover

2 x E25 amps (1 to drive the Minibass bin, the other to drive both LF units in Res1)

1 x E15 amp (for hf units in Res1)

Are you sitting down comfortably? Wanna see the list price?

Really?

Here we go:

2 x Resolution 1 £1600 each

1 x Minibass 212 £1400

1 x XO1 crossover £1600

2 x E25 amps £1795 each

1 x E15 amp £1395 each

I make that only £11185 + VAT before any discounts are applied.

Wish me luck I'm just going to tell Mrs Mole what I have bought at PLASA.....

BTW.. I was hoping to find Bose to hear those 'pole' speakers. Anyone find them?

Nope. I looked high and low and couldn't find them anywhere, so I kept asking the ladies at the Denon stand for more "flashes" instead.......you had to be there.. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif

Also that mad lady you had on your stand Gary, she must have been sponsored by REDBULL !!!

Ohh say thanks to her for us Gary as she gave nice photo oppertunity's !

p.s. is that on any web site yet?? http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/whistling.gif

A nice new lighting effect on the Martin stand the EFX500 (sure thats what its called) like a cut down version of the wizard and only £299 !!! Great center effect on any bar or truss.

And the best part of the day, well for me was Mr Zabiela doing his stuff on the Pioneer http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/censored2.gif stand (sorry Gary), that was a show to see, he is truly amazing !

Well said, James Zabiela is truly fascinating, a rising star. His technical ability is awesome. Oh BTW Chris, the word you are looking for is Pioneer. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/laugh.gif

I've got a busy week this week, but will be in London on Wednesday. I therefore hope to pop in to PLASA during the morning, but will only have a couple of hours, as I need to be somewhere else in the afternoon.

Not really enough time to do the show justice, but better than missing it altogether. May be I might bump in to some of you.

Surely then the ideal substitute would've been to ask the denon ladies to dance around a pole... any pole http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/rolleyes.gif

I didn't think anything particularly stood out. The A&H Xone 3d mixer was a bit of a letdown as I was expecting more, but as Brian said, maybe this is a sort of prototype and the finished item will hopefully be better cos it has great potential.

The Actor-Mate stand had some pretty good lasers www.actlaser.com.tw

The Mackie stand had one of their new "Precision Passive" speakers on which looks like the SR series but instead of a single woofer has 4 x 8" units.

Proel also had some new additions to their Active Speaker ranges including a 550 watt sub that would run in perfect tandem with two of their PHS-4A moulded cabs.

The best thing I found on the day was that if you could find a single red line you could park on it all day for free http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif

We ended up 200 yards from the entrance http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif

I went to plasa yesterday.

Leds, Leds and more LED's. Problem is prices were crazy.

No BOSE stands so I was gutted that I couldn't see Richards PAS in action

The Mastermix stand was really busy and they had an area for the Digital DJ and to be honest they weren't able to answer much, just be able to promote the extra stuff they add on top of the ppl license.

The PPL stand was right across mastermix and I spoke to a nice lady about more information on the Digital DJ and she was able answer some questions on it and also send some feedback back to HQ.

She said that within the next year or so, the PRS license when it comes up for renewal at the venue will have this inclusion added where they (venue) will ask for a registered DJ license (just like some requiring PLI and PAT) before allowing anyone to play.

She also said that you need this license BUT you definately need another license from the MCPS but she didn't know anything about that so I still was back at square 1. I said that if things get too complex or expensive then it will continue underground.

I thought I should point out for those of you considering getting the Digital DJ Licence that DMC will also be distributing it with added benefits, however they are not increasing the price.

So it is available with some extras via DMC @ £200 + VAT or via Mastermix with some extras @ £250 + VAT.

Still money for old rope though... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/363.gif

Another great day at PLASA, after a very slightly hung-over start, after last nights celebrations where Denon won DJ Magazines T-Scan awards for;

* Best mixer

* Best single CD deck

* Best dual CD deck

We were told that before the awards there was a 20 minute video presentation of video mixing...no, in fact it was a 32 music video montage of James Bond and The Italian Job Film clips and samples, using video scratch and video loop techniques "as found on" todays video dj decks...

Video scratching and looping certainly had an effect on the audience - none of us could watch the big screen for more than 5 minutes at a time - it was way too much video-foolery. Had there been anyone in the room suffering from Photo sensitive epilepsy, they would surely have been even worse off than our collective headaches.

Free beer all night, and it was superb fun watching all would-be suitors totally fail to make any impression on Michelle, Hayleigh, Mel, Debbie or Jasminje - the Denon babes, who were all a great laugh.

Today, met Kingy, Discostudio and a few "old faces" too.
