I have a web designer coming around later today, he has a basic charge of £300 plus VAT for three pages, plus £100 plus VAT per page thereafter.

Amendments are free

One free website address

Yearly cost after first 12 months is £100 plus VAT

Thats not bad pricing is it ?

.....but what do I know ?

That's very good Andy.

You won't believe how much my new website could've cost to be designed! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wallbash.gif

Seems reasonable Andy. I was quoted £300 - £400 for a 6 - 8 page site excluding hosting.

To be honest it's the same argument as we have on here, if you want it done properly then hire a professional and pay the going rate.

Especially as your website looks like it is going to be the main focus of your marketing.

I agree with the points made above. I wouldn't concentrate so much on the price as what this person has created for others. As we all know - we can build our own sites for next to nothing. I'd encourage you to look at their previous work, see how these sites have fared with search engines and make your decision from there. Graphic design, layout and content are worth paying for and I'd say that was a cheap price.

Cheers,

Jack.

Hi

That's pretty good pricing as long as your happy with the work.

Here are some quiestiosn for you though...

1. Are all your pages search engine friendly and optimised.

2. Will your designer resubmit your pages when necessary.

3. Has your designer included the facility for you to set up an internet newsletter?

4. has you designer discussed with you best practise for web design, site navigation structure etc.

bla bla bla, you get the idea.

If you're a bit like me, you want to have control of what your site is doing.

I didn't actually want to mention this as I didn't want to get acused of spamming the forum, but seeing as it's come up as a topic, since I started using Sitesell's Site Build It suite of tools, I now dont have to worry about HTML, FTP, CGI, forms, Search Engines, Propper Practise, the system takes care of it all. I just have tow rite the copy and paste it into the system.

The SBI system them checks that I have my keywords in the proper place and int he right qualtities and variations, submits the page I've done to the major engines and away we go.

When I first started researching changing my web host, I was a bit dubious about pay £150 plus and the traffic stats they were almost promising I took with a huge bucket of the white stuff.

Since December 2004, when my site visits topped out at about 450, my traffic has gone up and up, I've just had a looka t my stats for September so far and to date I'm at just over 1,000 visits, and for most of the right keywords too.

This is the only company I've come across in over 5 years on the net that say they can do something and then prove it.

Takes a lot for me to rave about a product or service, my standards are very high, but I wouldn't go back to regular hosting now and I'd only ever hire a designer that was familiar with SBI so I'd maintain a certain amount of control.

Right, lesson ends, lol

Darren

Ps Oh and the forums are as good as this one in terms of friendly and helpful advice.

£1500 gets me

10 pages, including a gallery for the cakes

a PDF form for download

Submittiing to all search engine, hopefully Top 10

Stats that I can see when I want to see them, including

Number of hits

Time of hits

Where the hits came from

Which search engine

What ISP

What country

All complete with numbers and percentages

Will be looked after for 12 months, with free amendments, and search engine submits, then £100 per year plus VAT thereafter

I could have got it alot cheaper, in the same way as the people who pay for my services could have got a £60 disco...........

.....but what do I know ?
