1983 saw 17 tunes hit the top of the charts, with just one tune dominating the top spot for a full 6 weeks, Culture Clubs "Karma Chameleon".

Close behind with 5 weeks were Billy Joels "Uptown Girl" and The Flying Pickets "Only You".

Only 2 artists reached number 1 for 4 weeks, Spandau Ballets; "True", and Police's "Every Breath you take".

3 weeks at the top seemed to be an easy enough accomplishment, proved by David Bowie "Lets Dance", Rod Stewarts "Baby Jane", Paul Young "Where ever I lay my hat", KC & The sunshine band "Give it up", and UB40's "Red Red Wine".

Phil Collins' cover of "You cant hurry Love", Kagagoogoo's "Too Shy", Bonnie Tylers "Total Eclipse of the heart" and Duran Durans "Is there something I should know" all stayed in the No.1 position for a worthwhile 2 weeks each.

New Edition squeeked: "Candy Girl" to the the peak of chart success for a mere week, with was (suprisingly) also the duration at number 1 for Michael Jacksons "Billie Jean"

But...which of this years number 1's goes down best on your dancefloor?

A year when there is more than 1 tune that is playable. I went for Billy Joel but Michael Jackson, Phil Collins, Culture Club, UB40, Rod Stewart all get played from time to time.

As much as I like and play quite a few of those tunes, MJ had to be tops for me... The first few bars of that track are instantaneously recognisable to almost any age group and it will mix into almost anything toooo!!!

This is a great post for further discussion. biggrin.gif offtopic.gif

Try and get hold of the Cut N Move version of this.. Very rarely a remix is better than the original, but in this case I think it is... Much more cheerful and happy!!
