Paul Smith 0
Following my advertising campaign (plea!) the hot seat has again reached its' temperature - and sitting comfortably this week is Steve....... 1. What is your DJU Forum Alias? SteveMitchell 2. What is your Real Name, Age, Location & Marital Status? Steve Mitchell , 33, Southport, Merseyside, Married with 3 children. 3. What is the Name of your Disco? Steve Mitchell Mobile Disco Show (Original Hey)? 4. How long have you been a DJ? 17 years 5. What inspired you to become a DJ Something I always wanted to do as a school kid. My Mum bought me two record players and some pulsar plus flashing lights. I had all the local kids in my bedroom for a disco. I used to put the radio on for the chart stuff. Bruno Brookes on a Sunday night. I got knocked off my scooter at 16 yrs old. With the compensation a bought a proper disco and went giggin. 6. Are you a member of a DJ Association / Union? M.U. 7. What is your favourite type of function now? (eg: Wedding, 18th Birthday party, etc) Got to be a 30th 0r 40th , probably as thats my age group. 8. What’s the worst/most embarrassing thing you've done in front of an audience? Years ago I had a Mcgreger console with a built in amp. The amp went down!!! 9. If you could go back to the beginning of your DJ career is there anything that you'd do differently? (eg: The gear that you bought, the way you promoted/advertised yourself) Not really. I left school and became a butcher so DJ-ing was only part time. I was happy with the amount of work I had and the gear I used. 10. What do you feel you offer the public that convinces them to book you rather than "the next guy/girl"? Always reliable, never been late or not turned up. I think my price is competitive and my equipment is good. 11. Have you ever bought something for your show that you wish you hadn't? and why? Emmmm ,, Don`t think so. Quite happy with my gear. 12. What's your next DJ purchase likely to be? Do fancy a shure sm58 radio mic. 13. If you could get someone to invent a new piece of disco equipment for your show, what would it be? Probably the same as every DJ ,, A robot roadie thats doesn`t need paying. 14. What was the worst equipment failure suffered during a gig? As question 8. My amp going down. Fortunartly is was on the last record. 15. What do you think is the best thing about DJ'ing? Defo the Buzz of filling the dance floor. Knowing that music you have chosen has achived this. Knowing that all the people dancing, are under your control. And when they are all happy and thank you at the end. 16. What do you think is the worst thing about DJ'ing? Packing down the gear at the end and wading through the drunks to get to the van. 17. What would make you stop DJ'ing (if anything)? Probably age, when I get fedup of being out in the evenings. And would rather stay in with my pipe and slippers. 18. How do you think DJ'ing will change, in the next 5 years? I think like over the past 5 years . Gear will get smaller i.e powered cabs, mini discs, laptops. 19. Most stupid thing anyone's ever said to you at a gig? Request for decent music. When asked what do you call decent music? Answer: "I don`t know your the DJ". 20. Best advice you were ever given by a fellow DJ? Loads off technical stuff off Kingy. EG getting a resistor in my mic to lower the output. 21. And worst advice you were ever given? Not sure I`ve had any. 22. How do you keep up to date with music? (eg Promo monthly CDs, Downloads, Purchase from retailer) Buy chart Cd`s from shop. Also buy the now albums. 23. Name 3 songs that 95% of the time will fill the dance floor for you! Barry White--First, last everything Pointer sisters--Jump Brian Adams--Summer of 69 24. Mode of transportation. Astra Estate. Am also a taxi driver, I put the seats down when am giggin. 25. What is the furthest that you've travelled from home for a single gig? Not far. Probably Manchester (50 miles). 26. Approximately how many gigs have you done to date? Oooo pass, maybe on average just over 1 a week. Probably about 1000 ish. 27. What is the largest/smallest audience numbers you've played to? Smallest about 25 . Largest maybe 400. 28. What is your main (most successful) form of advertising your disco? Word of mouth. If I don`t get a gig am not to concerned as I will sit in my taxi and earn a decent wage. I have a web site and have in the past advertised in the local paper. 29. Have you ever had someone try to claim off you? (eg: Public Liability Insurance or other such legal action) Never. 30. Add any additional comments which you would like to include here... DJU is the best forum on the net. Some very knowlegable guys and girls. Thanks to all and continue with the great threads and posts Edited November 2, 2005 by 5star
