Advice on new speakers please

Recommended Posts

I would like to buy a pair of 12" plastic moulded speakers that I could use on their own for smaller venues, kids parties, and karaoke, but also use as stage monitors as part of a larger system, has anyone got any sugestions? I'm thinking Kam IMS (not the pro) or gemini 300 but am open to any suggestions, I normaly use jbl1500 and am very pleased with them but they don't make a 12" version.

thanks

I would highly recommend the class-d JAC12's from me (well I would wouldn't I)

class-d

I have sold quite a lot of pairs and the comments back have been fantastic.

They are the dogs danglies and nothing can touch them for quality or price.

If you are interested I can give you the contact details of a couple of my customers.

Very interesting, can they be used as floor monitors?

Where are you based?

They look great, does anyone else have any ideas?

I will be buying the speakers in the new year, so I have a little time to shop around, I will put your shop in my favorites and seriously consider them, thanks.

Dj Dicky

These class D speakers are they realy that good? Ive seen them on ebay 4 a while and im in the need of new speakers after some scroat nicked my Hysys 2's.

So what im after is an unbiased view of them.

If they are that good I will get some.

Cheers Steve.

Call me synical but at the price (IMO) i would doubt it, maybe ok for monitors or very small venues at ok quality?

Im not for one minute havin a go at dj dicky but do believe you get what you pay for, as we have all probably found out the hard way on here!!

Its a bit like the dap audio soundmate system 600watt i started with last year, to be fair they sounded good, i raved on here about them until i listened (and bought) a pair of mackies.....no comparison apart from the 500 quid difference that is!

Thay would be worth a listen though i suppose to be fair

I am afraid that the old adage "you get what you pay for is simply not true in this case"

They are un believable for the price.

I use them my-self and have got rid of all my other makes of speakers.

These are some of the comments from some people I have sold sets to (completely un-edited) any one who is a member of a certain other DJ forum will verify that these comments are unbiased and true.

I have just took delivery of 2 x double 12 subs and the jac 15's..only had chance to use them in a pub last night but still managed to rev them up...now bear in mind i have been using ev 18" subs and jbl tr225 and ev sx500's for as long as i can remember.and no disrespect to anyone on here that buys bottom end gear but i NORMALY dont.but i needed to scale down the show a bit and decided to give these d class a try after dicky persuaded me.well on friday when i took delivery and took them out i was impressed with the build despite the lack of speakon's on the subs.so i got set up....first track was kingston town ub40 as i love to try out speakers as it seems to have every spectrum of sound in it..turned up the volume and WOW...what a sound....as i said before i use ev sb18 subs normally at a cost of over 2 grand a pair..and these double 12's had to be backed of quite a lot as they are BANGING and they cost less than 300 quid a pair..now if pee cee reads this dony bother getting a demo mate buy em..now the jac 15 again is sooooooo clear it is unbelieveable how they can sound so good at this price range...i would definatly say and i klnow this is a brave quote but i reckon these sound just as good as my ev tops and probably as good as the sx300...so for a bit shy of 700 quid i have a sound system that i personaly would compare to my ev set up..........so if you are thinking about a new speaker system give them a go

Just wondering if anyone knows where i can get custom made speaker covers for the D Class Jac Series & Bass Bins that myself and Rising Sun have just purchased i dont think the cardboard it going to hold up much longer and i dont wanna just transport them with nothing covering them as they will soon become wrecked which i dont want to happen

Excellent Speaker by the way

Well done D Class & Richard (DJ Dicky)

hi there. recieved the speakers the next day like you said. what a fantastic sound. thankyou very much...

I could go on like this.

They really do live up to the promise.

Support is second to none as well.

I had one customer who found a small manufacturing error where 2 screws had been put in one hole, one email from the customer to me and one phone call from me to the manufacturer and they phoned my customer right away and arranged a courier to deliver a replacement speaker the next day and collect the old one, all at their own expense.

I don’t want to bang on but it is rare these days to find a product that really does live up to the hype.

I will work out a special price if anyone from this forum wants to purchase.

Dicky

In fact I will make this offer.

If someone is willing to give a set of class-d speakers a try, I will offer that person a 14 day no questions asked money back guarantee.

If you do not think that the speakers are worth the money (and more) I will take them back at my expense and issue a full refund.

The only stipulation is that you will do a fair forum review and that it is a genuine trial, not just a free two-week hire. Can't say fairer than that

I am looking for a speaker system I can rent out at a good price, I want a small P/A system / Karaoke system that I can hire out, or add to my system to make a more comprehensive system with stage monitors,

The Calss d speakers would surely fit the bill, the 450s are far too expensive. If you read my first post, I was looking at Kam or Gemini!!! the 450s would be good for high class AV stuff, or if I was going to look after them myself, but not for renting out to the average Joe who would not apreciate or look after them.

There are always better speakers, but I would like a pair of good value speakers that will do the job.

They must be plastic, 12" and be able to be used as floor monitors,

I have seen warrior L300s forsale in another post, any comments? would they do the job, I dont think they look as profesional as the class d speakers but have heard some at a DJ show and remember they had lots of bass.

As for the comment "you get what you pay for" well I believe that so many prices are jacked right up for a brand name!!

So many items are badged up by two ore three names and priced acordingly, i'm not desputing mackie make excelent speakers, but desputing the saying, you can pay twice as much for the exact same product because it has a different badge!

As with anything is often down to personal choice. Some people may pay £25,000 for a VW others may pay £13,000 for a Skoda, sometimes you have to look beyond the outer packaging and branding and wonder which will give you the most value for money for your £.

If an individual doesn't want to spend £1000+ for a pair of speakers then it's pointless promoting goods which are above their budget, and maybe the application doesn't even warrant it. If top end products are out of the ball park, then you have to compare products which are within their budget which is what the thread was requesting. A bit like the car analogy above, I'm sure we'd all love to be driving Bently Turbos or TVR's, however when that isn't practical, you have to seek reviews for cars which ARE within your budget - the same principle applies.

DJ Dicky is putting his money where his mouth is on this one. If these speakers are within your budget and you are ready to buy, then why not take up his offer of a 14 day money back guarantee - I wonder whether you'd get a Mackie dealer offering the same! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/smile.gif . This seems to be an excellent level of customer service, so you can't really lose out can you?.

I have not heard these speakers so I am unable to comment or review their quality and sound, but I would urge everybody who is buying speakers (whatever their brand or price) to hear them in a venue atmosphere first running from their own equipment because it is all relevant, and listening in a studio or showroom environment is never going to be the same. Sound quality is a personal and individual thing which cannot ever really be reviewed in words. So I think Dicky's offer is extremely fair, and he's obviously backing his products 100% against your satisfaction.

A good point, and that can be true, however buying top end equipment doesn't give you the gold key to flawless service nor does it guarantee that it will never go wrong, and they can and do develop faults just like their cheaper counterparts. When I first changed over to CD many years ago, I bought a Denon 2000 which cost me £995, it went back for repair several times and because they were spending more time at the manufacturers than on the road I bought two domestic Eclipse CD Players from Richer Sounds for £39 each to see me through - they lasted 3 years. Go figure!. They were only replaced because they were no longer practical or rack mountable. I then changed to a budget-ish Stageline which has now worked flawlessly for 4 years.

As they say, the Optimist is seldom disappointed, and the pessimist will never know what they've missed http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/smile.gif .

One sort of minor flaw to a few posts here, if you have a really good amp then it would be wise to go for a good set of speakers, if you are running a KAM, GEMINI or other well known cheaper version amp then it would not pay to spend big on speakers and not use a top notch amp, though this is a debut for another day, I use a EP2500 amp with Proel dual 12" speakers, the amp is considered to be on the lower end but is it, not according to all the A+ reviews its had, the type of speakers you want I would'nt go mad on and I would certainly consider trying the offer as posted, you cant go wrong on that issue alone but we want a review cos I was looking at thiers bass bins... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/flirt.gif

Looks like Dicky is the only person with a recomendation for me, I just wanted a couple of suggestions. I use JBL EON1500s for my main speakers with an EP2500 and find them perfect for the job, the speakers only cost around £400, I just wanted something similar in a 12" version. I don't think I will take the plunge until the new year now Dicky, but may be in touch then, (probably the middle of January) Thank you for your advice. Let me know if you get any ex demo's to sell,

thanks
