I have recently purchased 2x dmx twister 4's and so far have been really unimpressed.

My old Twister 3's use 100w bulbs and the Twister 4's 250w bulbs but these are no where near as bright as the old ones.

Obviously you would expect to loose some brightness when using gobos but the twister 4 is hopeless unless you point it onto a white surface in complete darkness.

(And yes I have found the brightness switches which barely make any difference)

Has anyone here experienced this problem with Twister 4's?

Also as for the sound to light control the effects are good but the movement is way too fast I presume these lights are better when controlled via DMX? If you use them with quiet music they are completely insensitive and remail still. You really have to crank up the volume to get them to move.

Any similar experiences or advice?

Our local disco had a couple installed a year or so ago, I was pretty unimpressed myself, the dish movement seems great but since I'm used to the NJD Datamoon, these didn't compete I'm afraid. The aforementioned nightclub has recently taken them down again to free up space for other effects.

If these are twister 4HPs, the ones with the funny shape, then you definitely have seriously defective units.

If you purchased secondhand or obsolete stock, then yeah, the original Twsiter 4 was rused out in haste and is not a great light.

To say it is dimmer than the Twister 3 would surprise me, but it is certainly not a very good light, in illumination or sound activation.

I agree 100%, the twister 4 is my best selling light. - It sells so well, I have to order them at least a month in advance!

You have a defective unit my friend, allthough, they are all manufactured in the UK and tested, so I am supprised!

Send it back!

They are second hand and I believe they are the original Twister 4.

I agree about the 4HP, I know a guy who's upgraded to these and he's very pleased with them. Their discharge versions of these are fantastic too, (MAD Powerflower etc) so there's hope yet!!

The twister 4's I mentioned were the older type with rounded corners, looked like the Source flowers.

Check the lamp. If they are the ORIGINAL Twister 4 then they would be on a 100w lamp, not the 250w ELC that they were later converted to. This might explain the dimness

  • 2 weeks later...

They do have 250w ELC bulbs in them but I think I found the problem. I removed the gobo wheel and gave them a good clean. Not visably dirty but enough to make a difference. They are alot brighter but I'm still not overly impressed with the sound to light. But once I start using DMX I can fix that.
