National Grid Strike Action

19 January 2011 - 05:09 PM

Looks like the majority of workers at National Grid will be starting industrial action in the near future, starting with an overtime ban. This could mean that eventually, any action is stepped up to the point where power supplies are disrupted for a few hours on a national basis, which was similar to the 'three day week' which was introduced in the 70's as a result of the coal miners taking similar action.

Whilst the initial action may not result in widespread / national outages in the short term as most people fear, it may mean that power failures caused by other factors such as the weather, overload or line faults, which may only normally last a few seconds may become long term outages in nature and slow to be rectified.

The point of this thread in this section, is not only to remind you to buy a few extra candles, a torch, and a gas kettle biggrin.gif but also to advise that now might be a good idea to get written into your contact some form of protection in relation to exactly what will happen if the event is disrupted part way through due to a long term power outage, or unable to proceed at all due to this industrial action, and how / if any refund will be made to the client on this basis.

Of course those of you who have generators may be able to avoid this, and may even make a few quid hiring them to the client to enable their booking to go ahead biggrin.gif

Led Dmx Par 56 Cans From 25.00

16 January 2011 - 11:56 PM

Might be of interest to anybody wanting to branch out into the uplighting industry, or just wants some background lighting. These are also fitted with larger 10mm LED's which generally have a better reputation for brightness and output, compared to 5mm types.

LED Par 56 Cans with DMX and Stand Alone 'sound to light' options - 25.00 each

This isn't a personal recommendation, as i've not tried them myself, nor have I personally used the company before (which seems to be a Thomann Competitor). I just thought it may be of interest, especially to anybody considering a quantity purchase.

Thomann's have a 10mm version which is offered for 35.00 each.

Alternative To Thomann De

16 January 2011 - 11:44 PM

Don't know if anybody has used this company, but its a European Music Shop with a similar Ethos to Thomann and similar terms.

I've got no idea how their prices stack up against Thomann, but its worth comparing like for like before purchasing an item, just in case. More so, as Thomann prices seem to be getting less and less competitive and even some UK retailers are able to price match.

The Royle Wedding - April 29th 2011

15 January 2011 - 11:03 AM

It was announced in the press some days ago, that ALL pubs in the UK will be allowed to stay open beyond their normal licensing hours, upto 1AM in the case of 'normal' licensed venues which don't currently have late licenses, all in celebration of the Royal Wedding on April 29th.

I'm just wondering as to whether any pubs are planning on having Entertainment whilst they take advantage of the increased trading hours, and how many of us have taken enquiries or actual bookings for this night.

Anybody had any private Wedding Bookings on this day? biggrin.gif
