  1. QUOTE (5star @ Dec 2 2004, 02:44 PM) Last night was another wedding reception. originally booked from 8 til 1, this was changed to 8 - 12 then 7.30 - 11.30 then 7 -11 and finally 2 days before from 6.30 - 10.30 so an early finish for a change. I've put this one in my top 10 of the worst gigs for this year - most people were away by 9 o'clock and those remaining just weren't interested. I tried everything for the last 90 mins but the floor remained empty. At one stage a guest came up and sang along to an Oasis track, he was really good and the only people who applauded were his girlfriend an

  3. "If this is your first wedding - how confident are you about talking on the mic? Not something you can avoid at a wedding I'm afraid... Do you have a wireless mic' for speaches, intro's etc. if not, long cabled mic?" Is this really true...of course you might need to say the odd little thing. I have never been to a wedding do where the DJ is doing any talking on the mic..and the do is all the better for it.Any thing I have been to where the DJ is prone to 'chat', everyone seems to want to tell him to shut up and play good music. This is what my philosophy is...mouth shut, let the music

  5. yeah it went really well tonight (just got back in)..got another job out of it,and got an £80 'tip' on top of the agreed cost as well....knackered though http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/sleep1.gif
  6. yeah i am sure it will be ok...i will just let the music do all the work http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
  7. got my first wedding 'gig' since I starting up as a DJ for money, tonight. Amazing how different the pressure is for this as I am getting paid for it. Last year did a big wedding in Ireland for some music industry people, but did it for free (fool!!!)....and it was a 10 hour do as well..and yet I am more nervous about this 90 people 4 and a half hour do..my reputation feels like its on the line ....arrrrrrgh Nice handy hints on this thread!!!! Wish me luck http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
  8. maybe i should buy a 'discwasher'....http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
  9. it might be dangerous, but it would look quite impressive...until it came to peeling your burnt vinyl off the turntables http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/188.gif
  10. and where would one buy a 'calotherm imprenated cloth' or indeed some'calotherm' (!!!????) to impregante a cloth with. by the way...cheers for these suggestions, i felt like a bit of an ar$e asking the question...a dj should really know the answer http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/tongue.gif
  11. i agree...looking after it is the best policy...but sometimes one has to but records in not the best state from second hand shops (some real great bargins). Now, I am sure that someone once told me that lighter fluid was alright to use (or maybe they said it was NOT alright to use it). I guess that some sort of alcohol (not beer http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/wine.gif http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/beer.gif ) based liquid would be good for it...and a detergent for getting the grease off... maybe a bit of saliva and the tee-shirt i am wearing is a solution http://w
  12. hehehehe...i would love to be able to use just CD's but I have too much vinyl to ignore...and there is something about vinyl which CD's just dont have...and when it comes to some of the older vinyl, the sound is much better than a CD(well somethimes anyway)...and its just good to look at as well. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif I think I might need a bit more than an anti static brush for some of these though...
  13. right this may seem like a bit of a daft question (and I am not sure where i would have been best posting this)...but to anyone who uses vinyl...what have you found to be the best method of cleaning your vinyl? Also, does anyone have any tips on how to deal with scratches on your records ?(vinyl is going to play a big part whilst 'working')
  14. I have now just got to hunt down all my romantic songs for the night
