  1. MIXXX is a free to download, open source digital DJ tool for Windows, OSX & Linux. It supports two virtual turntables, up to four samplers, 30 different hardware controllers & timecoded vinyl/CD. I've been playing with it for a while & found it to be virtually bombproof, no stutters, no crashes, no hangs. It only has one effect (flange) but the EQ, kill switches & auto loop functions are very good. see http://mixxx.org/
  2. QUOTE (Gary @ Aug 11 2005, 09:35 AM) As mentioned on This thread here. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif I do not have permission to view that thread! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/sad.gif I'd probably agree a reasonable wattage is about 2W RMS per person, depending on the size of the venue.
  3. I'm not a fan of the venerable SM58. It doesn't seem to sound 'right' for my voice. Instead I either use a Trantec S1000 radio mike with an AudioTechnica head or a Beyer M300... Both sound lovely compared to the Shure and seem to have better gain before feeback... sound less 'breathy' etc. The Trantec with the A.T. head sounds very crisp in the top end and warm in the low end without being dull or muddy. The Beyer lacks the deep bottom end of the Trantec but it's beautifully clear. I've also been known to use a ATM-73 headset from time to time... I'd never compare it to a handheld mike
  4. QUOTE (ian @ Aug 8 2005, 09:59 AM) QUOTE (juski @ Aug 7 2005, 04:37 PM) I've not seen any mention of spelling, grammar or punctuation. Make your website stand out from the crowd by: 1. Spelling words correctly. Don't rule out incorrect spellings completely though. Remember that you need to do well in search engines to make sure people see your site. If there are accepted incorrect spellings (like "skool" in "old skool") then you should include them, otherwise anyone searching for "old skool" instead of "old school" will not find your site. If there are words which people frequently
  5. A word of warning about using laptops for applications like DJing.... Laptop hard drives are not designed for long periods of continuous use. If you really want to use a laptop, I recommend using an external USB or firewire hard disk to store your music/video/whatever.
  6. Now there's a name I haven't seen in a long time. Mode electronics. They made (still make?) quality lighting gear. Had a quick peek on the fleabay & found an NJD Logic 8000... they're not bad.
  7. I think it'd be best practise to tell your customers that you'd prefer them not to supply music on CDR or any other recordable format. That way it's far less ambiguous. On the night though - give them the benefit of the doubt. Nobody likes a jobsworth.
  8. Yeah well - fully loading 2 channels at 5A each... that's 2.4kW.. quite a lot of lightiing, is that. I think I should be okay with a few PAR cans hanging off the back of it. Thanks for all the suggestions peeps :) The Behringer looks like a good buy (when it comes out).
  9. Only use 2 channels at a time? Why?! Will the triacs MELT or something? Or do they mean not load it up to the full capacity of each channel (coz that might take it over 13A) ?
  10. Back in the day I used to own a big blue multi-program 4 channel light controller. It was dimmable with a master control too - very handy indeed. Are there any such controllers available today for sensible money (what with PICs being so cheap these days & all...) ?
  11. QUOTE (djtuffer @ Aug 6 2005, 06:43 PM) I use DN-D9000 and DN-X800 which have digital in out. I found that the levels were slightly lower using digital and that there was a little more noise generated by the mixer using digital. The next Denon mixer was the DN-X1500 which only has one digital out. Great idea in principal but it just doesn't seem to have taken off. Uh?! I thought the whole object of using digital was to eliminate noise. Ah well.
  12. Take it back & have a refund (not fit for purpose etc).
  13. I've not seen any mention of spelling, grammar or punctuation. Make your website stand out from the crowd by: 1. Spelling words correctly. 2. Using apostrophe's ;) correctly 3. Making sure every sentence on your website makes sense. If I had a pound for every time I've seen a "Dave's Disco's" style mistake. Profesionel Disco's For Every Ocasion. "Professional? I doubt it - they can't even spell it!" What next? Advertising in txt spk? ;) http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/1106.gif Remember that your website and other promotional material is all about creating
  14. All USB gear by its very nature, eats up lots of CPU cycles. So you've got to have a faster CPU than if you weren't using USB audio devices. Firewire on the other hand... that's the daddy of interfaces. I tried out PCDJ FX a few months ago - even on an Athlon 2Ghz machine with 1GB of RAM it was a bit juddery http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/scared.gif
