  1. I had a fire alarm one at a hotel and whilst standing outside with the guests waiting for an hour for the fire brigade to give the all clear the bride asked me to go back in and start playing as the guests were getting bored, I did point out that NO ONE was allowed into the hotel till the fire brigade to give the all clear which she didn't understand. She then told the hotel that i should play for an extra hour and a half as I hadn't done the full set and luckilly for me none of the staff wanted to stay until 2.30! and... The Best man who came up onto the balcony I was Djing
  2. All of my tracks are on a hard drive as text so I use the laptop as a search engine for this reason, as well as "acquiring" the odd request that I haven't got using the hotels wifi.
  3. I got as far as upgrading to MP3/CD players with Ipod docking Personally I won't go down the laptop route as I enjoy having 20 seconds left and nothing set up and the Player taking FOREVER to read a cd and the mp3 track coming out of one speaker or both depending on where I got it from..... Hmmm,...... Perhaps I should get a laptop.......
  4. You mentioned Robbie, That gets a Ehh Ehh noise from family fortunes! He ruined that song (IMO)
  5. I think it was more I couldn't find it due to signal or search engine being stupid as I have since found it. It was just the point that its impossible to carry EVERY piece of music from 50's to present unless you have HAL from space Oddessy as your backup.
  6. Now this is spooky I was asked for this track, I don't have it, tried to "get hold" of it there and then (Iphone technology) and couldn't find in on the www and was told that every DJ she has seen before has this track and that I wasn't a proper DJ etc etc....
  7. I was asked for a track by john holt called Help me make it through the night by a wedding guest... me..."hmmm, hold on I'll look on my database.....no sorry I don't seem to have it" her..."why not?, every DJ has that song, it was a huge hit" me..."well i don't but if you give me a minute I can download it (Iphone Technology)...No, sorry it doesn't seem to exist online either, Kris Kristofferson has a version though" her..."nope. thats no good, has to be John holt, why doesn't it exist online?, it was really popular, all dj's carry it, what kind of DJ are you not to have it
  8. I play another slow track telling the guests to swap partners. I play a slow one and ask the guests to swap partners. this forum is annoying me, saying I can't post as its under 25 seconds and then i post twice due to it in the same post!
  9. Which is why I play Stealers Wheels Stuck in the middle "I don't know why I came here tonight, I got the feeling that something ain't right" best Avoid There may be trouble ahead at weddings though..........
  10. No one is dancing, asking for requests or in any shape or form interested in what you are doing during dinner. IMO it is a waste of energy to actually "DJ" during background as you just look silly with headphones on your head setting up the next song whilst people are looking at you from their table with food in their mouth.
  11. Not sure this has been done but everyone has a funny story from their years of experience so I'll start. The groom asking me to play some music whilst the entire party and staff waited outside the hotel for the fire brigade to give us the all clear to return after fire alarm sounded, he genuinely wanted me to return to the hall and carry on playing so that his guests in the car park didn't get bored.
  12. I inadvertently upset hotel management when a guest that was staying in the hotel but nothing to do with the party came up to me and aggressively asked me to turn it down as he couldn't sleep, I told him to speak to reception due to it being a wedding. Reception came and asked me to turn it down and 10 minutes later the bride came up and asked me to turn it back up, I explained that the hotel have had a complaint about the noise level from a guest to which she replied "I am paying alot more money than the guest...I'll sort this out" Cue a visit from Manager telling me to turn it back
  13. No one has stolen mine either which I can only presume is a good thing
  14. Damn it www.genesisdisco.co.uk This is what happens when you use Vistaprint, same backdrop!
  15. (cut and pasted from a similar thread that i replied to before reading this one!) I only have a problem with sound limiters when someone in the crowd whistles, shouts or screams. Then it switches off and shuts down everything. I did a residency over christmas a few years back and after it shut off a fourth time on the same night due to the crowd I informed the hotel that I will plug into a different source as they could see quite clearly my volume was way under the limiter unless they were happy to pay for a new amp or anything else that might not like being switched off and on
