  1. Just a background to my story, I started djing in York in 1985 at the tender age of14, at 19 I set up with my friend doing social clubs, village halls ect and in 1994 gained some hotel contract work, which we still have, the point of my post is that back in the day, up to about 2007, party's were well attended, customers always stayed till the disco finished, the dance floor was always full from around 9.30 and always packed for the slow song, big finish ( new york, hi ho silver lining, ect ) the last few years have honestly been terrible, low numbers invited / attending, leaving early, usuall
  2. afternoon , just purchased cortex hdj100 and updated the machine to latest firmware but cant get my head round loading tracks into music manager software, at the moment i have copy and pasted all my tunes off my laptop onto the hard drive, it works ok and the hdj100 finds them but i would rather get them into software.
  3. did a wedding last night in york with a band, the function room was not set up till 8.15, buffet at 9 and a 12 o clock finish. the band wanted 2 x 1 hour slots but did not want to start the 1st slot till after the buffet, buffet was at 9 and a room of 220 people to feed. band did 9.30 till 10.30 and 10.45 till 11.45 leaving me a full 2 x 15 mins slot. i dont mind but i feel the B & G felt i didnt offer value for money, any thoughts on working with bands and timings. cheers matt
  4. radio1 / viking fm ( hull ) i hear all the local stations network the evening show 2 guys called hill and james. how poor are they! think next big thing on radio will be radio 1s jk and joel, at he mo they do charts but they are on the ladder now

  6. is it just me or is every one asking for this at the mo?
  7. i did 25th wedding anniversary last night and it was on really low till 10.15 ( and i mean low ) pumped it up from then till 12 but still well below the norm, crowd loved the disco and went home happy. i remember when i started in about 1985 and i really thought loud was good, how wrong was i! i gauge the volume by watching the crowd, can they speak without shouting, can the bar hear the drinks orders, thats a good way off telling. ive even asked the guests before, its there night, not ours.

  14. i was a guest at a wedding reception and evenig disco at a hotel in york last night, the hotel is in prime location and is a was a good standard and the hotels resident disco company is not the worst in york so i cant belive the DJ turned up in a short sleeved casual shirt and some of trendy casual jeans. i would never ever turn up in such attire the minimum for myself and my co workers is smart trousers long sleeved shirt and tie. comments please
