When setting up do you need a clean slate, or can you use a HDD that is in use and then let the RAID mirror to the 2nd drive?? Chris

  4. QUOTE (ADS Entertainments @ Jan 14 2005, 08:10 PM) I till cannot see the reason to buy a 4u case to house a computer, then more space for a screen etc when a laptop does it much easier, and esier to back up / add to the hard drive etc. I would rather stick with my 5u CD players.............. Easy answer to that one, I've never built a laptop and can build a PC in a rackmount easily. Especially as I have piles of spare parts. Apart from the case I have everything except the processor and possible a better cd/rw Chris
  5. just received my 4u case from xcase (link in a pervious post) Its welll big enough for a standard atx board with plenty of room for full sized pci and agp cards. Also its short enough to fit in a standard flight box. Once built and finished I will post some more info, but so far: It will have 2 HDD's one both bootable in XP, one for music, music software, internet browser(Mozilla Firefox), mail(Mozilla Thunderbird) the other drive will boot up for normal PC work. DVD/RW, CD/RW with facility to record CDG's NO floppy drive AMD Sempron 2200+ Crucial 256MB DDR PC2700

  8. Looks perfect for those who got an iPod for Xmas and need a computer to get online.
  9. How do you manage your music? Do you use a database or a specific peice of software? Currently I have encoded all my CD's to MP3 on to a second HDD but cant work out an easy way to manage it all. I know using basic APs like media player will allow me to do the basics. Yes I know I should be able to recall all my tracks instantly from my collection but I want to be able to manage it a bit better than that. Also I think being able to look up using CDDB would be usesul. I've seen mention of Tag and Rename and wondered if this would be the right solution. Would I also need a da
  10. I ran it for a year or so but stopped when built new PC. Also came to the conclusion that I think we need to explore Alien life on Eart before we start looking upwards. Dont know about you guys but I see some very strange people every day. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
  11. Madgutts Ebuyer put the price up during the time I first posted!! http://www.xcase.co.uk/acatalog/Queenserve..._Rackmount.html this one looks promising, similar to the aria one...if not the same... but cheaper also takes an atx board and is 480mm D, which I hope will fit a flight case.. cheers Chris
  12. I'm going to answer my own question!! found this on ebuyer. Antec 3u25/rackmount 350w £80.93 MSI KM3M-V SKT A KM266PRO AGP DDR333 Audio Video Retail Box £24.43 comes with onboard vid and sound, although I will use an external sound card I think this will do the job, and I have all the other bits here. any comments or advice welcome Chris
  13. Hi Does anyone have any experience of the Hercules DJ Console?? thanks Chris
  14. My apologies if this is in the wrong place or previously covered. I have read the posts about rackmount cases. Could anyone recomend a CHEAP rackmount case and motherboard. It can be 2u as not worried about agp Alll it needs to do is have an operating system, sound software and music files and a network card so that I can connect to my home pc. many thanks Chris
  15. Thanks Chris, Still finding my way around Chris
