  1. Yikes, first time I answer a post in years and that happens! I'm sure that if you were to lodge a complaint to these " Associations" regarding specific members behaviour as opposed to posting it on a publicly viewable forum, then they might investigate it. The point I was trying to get across was that most venues will fold on this fee if pressed with the right information and if our clients want us instead of the inhouse dj then there IS something we can do about it. More fool me for mentioning casually mentioning NADJ as part of that and not expecting the usual backlash.
  2. Or speak to NADJ who are already pursuing this issue with some venues. I've taken one venue to task in my area and have advised my brides & grooms that are holding their wedding there not to pay the £150 ("not having our dj" fee), and to ask the venue what that money is for. They've already been told:- 1: it's for insurance - nope our dj has £10m PLI 2: no sorry it's for electrical test purposes - nope again our dj has PAT 3: no erm we meant its for an entertainment license for your dj, as our entertainment license only covers us for our dj - nope thats just bo:cense:ock
  3. or plug into the socket marked "Cleaners Only" . That tends to work for me !
  4. How many systems do you own. 2 How long have you had it/them. had them since the launch of the L1 so .. over 2 years Also tell me where you are in the UK. Yorkshire Would you rent one out to a client or another DJ. have done to clients for speeches with my supervision. Do you go into your Channel 1/2 on XLR or Jack. ch1 & 2 on jacks Any problems you have encountered. not really, can't get one of them to update the presets. Would you recommend them. yes Would you buy another L1 or something else. might buy the t1 mixer Has it increased your bookings. definately yes Has it
  5. I'll second that I have two 3m by 2m njd cloths and there are very well made, full wool serge and look 100% better than the nylon ones.
  6. This years show was the last DJ Show North, we've done what we set out to do, which was to provide the North with a viable dj exhibition. Our footfall this year was not as we expected ( 656 people through the doors over the course of the day ) and this has been the most difficult year ever for us as the industry had collectively tightened its purse strings, so many thanks to all the exhibitors that put their money where their mouths were and backed us for the fourth year. I (Paul) also believe that DJ's priorities have changed this year and they are no longer as keen to attend produc
  7. Plus there's a route planner on the "venue" page if you need directions !
  8. My son (11) is more interested in his guitar (cooler than being a dj !!) but my daughter (8) likes to have a go at mixing until it just descends into "lets push every slider up to the top" !!
  9. So as most of you know we (at DJ Show North) like to give away a few nice prizes and over the years made sure people are rewarded for pre-registration. Well if you preregister for passes at this years show at www.djshownorth.co.uk/preregister.htm you will be entered into a draw to win this:- http://www.djshownorth.co.uk/LED1300_1.jpg A brand new Kam 1300 LED Screen with a RRP of around £500, and we'll sort out the delivery etc. Thanks to our mates at Discotechnology for splitting the bill for this prize with us. Not bad for spending £3 to preregister, but as they sa
  10. wizard, don't rush into the djscreens, have a look on the vj forums first (they're not very complementary) plus the pics on their websites are mock ups
  11. http://www.djshownorth.co.uk/front2.png Preregistration for this years DJ Show North is now open, the price is the same as last year, £3 and there WILL be a special entrance for pregistered attendees, so no queuing! (click image above, go on, do it!) Or turn up on the day and pay £4 but no entry into the prize draw and you have to queue. See you at the show !
  12. broke so many trolleys over the years I bit the bullet and bought a rock n roller r12 trolley, inflatable tyres the lot, can almost do a full rig on it !! http://www.rocknrollercart.com/products.htm
  13. looking for a free alternative, use google calendar, you can embed it on your site and then you mark your calendar "public", you can set levels of access i.e. mine is set just to show free/busy without going into any more detail. Have a look on mine at www.mybigdaydj.co.uk/avail.htm hope that helps
  14. Think the device you were thinking of was this... http://www.ezpnp-usa.com/show_product.sstg...d873eaaf34743a1 but it does label the tracks track1, track2 etc..
  15. Good luck guys, little acorns and all that. We still have to chase exhibitors every year and it's our fourth one this year! It doesn't get any easier (or cheaper), we almost self sufficient now, money wise but its taken the last four years. get some good seminars as well, it's something we've never done but done right can be very worthwhile. We let everyone exhibit for free on our first year and the door cost almost covered the venue cost (just remember to ask them how much power they need)....
