  1. Hi again I did a bit of research on the whole BPM scenario, and from what I have found, detecting BPM is not as simple as it seems. At least for dance-type of music that go "boom boom boom " it is quite straightforward. Problem is when you get to things like jazz or classical music where the beat is not simply located in the lower frequencies. There is a whole field of mathematical theory dealing with automatic feature extraction from music, including genre, bpm etc. they do this using really intricate systems involving DSPs (Sigital signal processors), wavelett processing and more.
  2. Hi there No, I don't think the unit will feature a mouse. As I have mentioned before, we will probably add a PC Keyboard, which will make the entering of data very easy. The actual navigation around different options of the system will be designed such that they are as easy as possible to operate. Maybe incorporating a thumbweel or a joystick of sorts. Regarding BPMs: I have currently no real way of measuring this. I can make provision to store this information along with the songtitles, but I am not sure how to measure it directly. If anyone knows of any resources for this, I will a
  3. Hi again Adding some other types of output is now problem. Digital out is not an option at this stage. However, if this is a real requirement, it can be done, but not if it is merely a nice-to-have. I always say: "Anything is possible, it is just a matter of time, money and patience" So Yes anything can be done in theory, but someone is going to pay for it.. Adding balanced outputs, 3.5mm jacks, RCA connectors or whatever is no problem, and will not have a huge effect on the price. Again, please let roll with any questions that may come up.. regards Carel
  4. Oops maybe I replied to the wrong thread. Well here we go again.. this is Carel Speaking, from the company in SA contemplating the design of said DJ mp3 player. As to the comments from Dan, here goes some answers: 1)Has the device got potential to add on more hard drives, is it unlimited or restricted to 120GB? The system will be typically able to use upto 2 hardrives, both limited (for now at least) to 120Gb. (not that this is much of a ceiling in my opinion) I am not too sure whether copying between drives will be supported. This is a lot of work. 2) Could the device be con
  5. Hi everyone I am from the manufacturer referred to in Chris's email. Actually, we are located in Cape Town, South Africa. We are a startup, called Polygon Technologies, and we aim to develop equipment to fill small niche markets such as DJ mp3 players. We come from a background in developing electronics for the military, so quality and dependability is all there. I have been talking to Chris, and we are presently discussing the viability of developing a dual-mp3 system using a Hard drive, especially for DJ use. Please come forth with your wishlists, let us see what are the market needs
