I currently use Virtual DJ. My laptop has an external sound card which is then fed into two chanels on my mixer. One for each deck in Virtual DJ. I then use the mixer to mix like I would with cd players or decks!

When going for a laptop for DJ / KJ use I always follow these rules: Brand: Toshiba / Lenovo / HP / Dell Studio or XPS / Sony Processor: Intel Dual Core - Stay away from the budget celeron processors. these have a slower FSB meaning data passed to and from the processor is traveling at a lower speed. Memory: At a minimum 2GB Bare in mind vista uses between 1GB and 1.5GB to itself you will need more to run an application. Daslight will do the job too Click here. The advantage of daslight is you can program it at home using the 3D virtualisation viewer then use it for real at a gig. The software comes with a libary of built in scenes to use and assign. For example circles, waves, pans, chases etc. Speed can be controlled manually or via auto beat detection, set bpm or time. Take a look at Dynamo 250 and Dynarock 250 on the prolight website. It seems that one of the best budget lighting packages has just got better apparetly they are about the same size and weight of the original dynamos but with a 250w output and barrels on the dynarock.
