  1. Problem solved. Turned out to be an IRQ conflict between graphics adapter and a USB port (into which I had the external soundcard plugged). Solution is not to use the port for anything important.
  2. Hi, Had a fantastic gig on Saturday night, but no thanks to my laptop which had to be re-booted 10 times in 4 hours. I am compeltely baffled by this because I can't reproduce the problem. The same problem has happened occasionally in the past but never as bad as this. The laptop is dual 2.16Ghz processor with 1Gb RAM. 320Gb external hard disk is connected via USB as is the M-Audio USB Pro soundcard. Using Traktor 3 as DJ software. Windows XP (no hibernation or power save rubbish switched on). Everything works fine to a point (usually 5 seconds before I want to fade in a t

    Led Zepplin

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm not familiar with all those tracks mentioned so will go and have a listen, and of course ask the question to the client regarding any particular tracks they may favour.

    Led Zepplin

Hi, A client has requested some Queen, Elvis, Who and Led Zep for a family 40th party. Got the others covered but apart from 'Rock and Roll', I'm not really sure what to cover from Led Zepplin. Any suggestions? Gav

    Lack Of Bass

Ok here is some more detail. On first identifying the problem, I actually changed the connection on the speaker cabinet. The speakers are Deltec SX5's and each cabinet has 2 speakon connectors. Unsure of which one to use I guessed - on one speaker everything is fine and the other I hear sound but distinct lack of bass. On the bad speaker I put the speaker cable into the other speakon connector on the cabinet and tried again - still no bass. On the good speaker I put the speaker cable into the other speakon connector on the cabinet and tried again - still good, plenty of bass. The
  6. Hi, I'm new to all this malarkey so treat me gently. Have just taken some delivery of speakers/amp and mixer/CD combo and plugged it all in tonight. I've followed the instruction manuals carefully, connected everything up, turned on and increased power/volume slowly. Everything seemed fine until I discovered one speaker has a definite lack of bass compared to the other. On one speaker the bass is a good thud, but on the other the thud isn't there at all and almost sound a tinny/muffled sound. Could one of the speakers have been damaged in transit? I swapped round the cab
  7. Is anybody using, or has used, an M-Audio Fast Track Pro? I've had this recommended to me because it offers very professional sound quality.
  8. I'm not sure I can go down the PCMCIA route. My laptop is quite new and does not have one of those slots - I think they are becoming obsolete in favour of Expresscard/54. I've had a look at the Hercules DJ Console and while it looks like it'll work fine with specialist DJ software (such as Virtual DJ) - what if I just want to use it for Winamp or something simple. Will it still work?
  9. Hello, Sorry to bring this subject up again but computer equipment changes fast. I'm planning to use a laptop for DJing and would appreciate some guidance on external sound cards. The interface options I have to the laptop are USB2.0, Firewire and ExpressCard. Can you suggest some products I should consider with the best sound quality, within a £100 budget. Many thanks Gavin
  10. Hi, I'm in the process of setting up and am pretty settled on amps/speakers/sound source, etc but am stumped on lighting. Just to set the scene most gigs are likely to be birthdays/weddings at small/mid-size venues. Based on the advice on the forum I've settled on a goalpost style frame/trussing for lighting that will break down to a t-bar for smaller events. Now what to hang off them? My initial starter for 10 was a couple of scanners (Martin SCX500) DMXed together, a couple of fancy gobos and...well that's where I'm stuck. Rather than spend my budget on fancy stuff dancing
  11. Hi, I don't usually like these topics where somebody asks whether something is good or bad because each have their own preferences. However, I'll stand guilty and ask the experts what they reckon of Peavey as a manufacturer. I've searched the forums a little and got a mixed response...no surprise there. In particular I'm looking at a particular package to do mobile discos that will offer some flexibility. See Peavey System. I'd appreciate if anyone could recomend similar, although will probably make my head spin even more as I continue to be bewildered my the mass of equipme
  12. The twin t-bars with trussing looks pretty cool, flexible and good value for money. One stupid question though when using the wind-ups - do you need 2 people to raise/lower it or can you do one side then the other??
  13. Hi, I'm currently putting some kit together to do mobile shows for around 100 people/small to mid size venues. I'm trying to decide whether to go with a traditional goalpost set-up for lighting, or consider a single lighting t-bar set to one side. Both options will hold four scanners and one other lighting effect in the centre. The goalpost seems more at home but I quite like the wind-up style which are quite expensive. There again, perhaps the wind-up t-bar is more flexible when you're squeezed into a tiny space? Can anyone help me with the pros and cons of this? Thanks
  14. Morning, I've been reading the forum for a few months now and decided to chip in and introduce myself. My name is Gavin and I'm in the process of considering setting up a mobile dj business in the Berkshire/Oxfordshire area. Now, quite why I'd want to do this at the age of 36 - married, 2 kids, full time job in IT - is anyones guess. My wife thinks it's a mid-life crisis. I blame it on love of all music and getting satisfation from people having a good time. I've done a couple of parties in the past but usually for close family. However, the buzz I got from them was fantastic an
