  1. Quite suprised with this one - I would have expected a big dance hit of 2007, but for me - this year: Queen - Don't Stop Me Now. I've done a few teenage birthday parties, and this has gone down a storm. What about you? Have a good Xmas and New Year to all at DJU.
  2. For karaoke gigs, do you guys use a monitor speaker for the singer/s? I have been to gigs before, where the singer is out of sync with the song, purely because he can't hear where in the song he has got to, and just relies on the karaoke tv to be cycling the words at the right rate. A monitor speaker would probably help, but it's likely to cause feedback, is it not? Thanks.
  3. I went to Maplin in Luton seveal weeks ago, and the (teenage) staff were lined up, all holding their radios, to ensure stuff wasn't getting lifted!!! It's amazing, the response you get when asking a tachnical question... LOL
  4. Thanks for your help with this one Andy.. I've just done this little diag to help explain. I am running 2x 8ohm cabinets in parallel so have a 4ohm load. One of the cabinets has 2x4ohm 15"drive units. One of them is fookd, so I need either a replacement 4ohm, or recalculate replacing with an 8ohm either in series or parallel? http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t116/t4monsterbeastie/cablayout.jpg
  5. I Have a pair of Chauvet Slashers, that got 'knocked' in the van. :aa I've since re-thought how i should be loading, so I don't suspect I will be that unlucky again. Thanks for the encouragement guys, just need help now landing that next gig. btw - does anyone know where I can get 4 ohm 15" bass drivers? I know 8ohms is the norm, but I have 2 in series in a cabinet. Or shall i start re-calculating impedence?
  6. They are games which involve kissing.... Typically all the girls wanted to play, but he boys tried to stay away. When I was a wee boy we only had spin the bottle, which soon developed into drinking games...
  7. I did my first gig on my own last night, with my own kit. (I've been a 'roadie' for years) smile icon 13th birthday for 2 friends in a village hall in the middle of nowhere. Hostess provided me with a playlist (not in order) Tracks that went down well; Automatic - Monster Kaiser Chiefs - Ruby Mika - Lollipop Queen - Don't Stop Me Now (Suprised me, that one....) Lessons learnt from this event; Some lights are more rugged than others.(2 lights with 4 bulbs in - 3 bulbs blown - had spares luckily) Check speakers individually before deciding they all work okay (1 dodgy bass driver) I
  8. After reading these few replies, I'm very tempted to become 'I' again........ I really didn't think it through well enough, I suppose... Thanks to those who have replied already, and the more opinions the better.
  9. I'm pretty new to 'small business' but I have decided to use the 'we' term in my literature, to appear to be larger than 'I' really am? I figure that customers would beleive that a team of djs would be more reliable than a one man band. I have a couple of DJ friends that may be able to cover me, should the need occurr. What are your thoughts? smile icon
  10. Certainly is..... That's why I put castors in the rear corners. I've got some construction pics. If anyone is interested, I'll post them in a seperate thread. They are definitely built to last... Agreed, but until I start earning enough from it, I know it's dodgy as f:cense: - but I will take the risk. I've been giving it a pasting since I bought it. Atleast if it fails while I'm tinkering away at home, I've got a chance of fixing it, or borrowing one from my good friend Mike. (I may convince him to sell me a spare soon)
  11. Thanks for the welcome guys, Here's a pic of a couple of my cabinets. http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t116/t4monsterbeastie/1side.jpg
  12. Hi there, DJ Vee here (I know, i regret it already..it's my initials you see...) I've been pottering about the forum for the past week or so, as I have just launched out on my own, and have my first booking this weekend. I've been the roadie for a friend on and off for the past 10 years or so, and decided to get a kit together, and see if i could do it my way. I moved away from where I grew up about 5 years ago, so I'm not going to be in direct competition, although may be covering for each other at some point. (He didn't think i was serious until I showed him the kit i had ga
