Techno, tough trancey stuff and good, meaty progressive dance music. I dance as well as DJ, which gives a good perspective!<br>Also read like a reading thing, write a bit and spend all day in front of my Mac designing things... (day job).
  1. Hi Lotec - I have Numarks at home and love 'em. Some of my DJ mates who've used them at parties reckon that they're difficult to control ("They hate me, your decks!") but I get on perfectly okay with them. The controls etc are in exactly the same place so I've never had a problem playing out in clubs with Technics, and I don't tend to rely on any of the digital readouts anyway... It's probably best advice to get Technics if you can, but you won't suffer at all if you opt for the Numarks (apart from a few sniffy remarks... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/tongue.gif ) Don't know abou
  2. Had a great time playing a short set (1 hour) on a boat on Saturday. Had the midnight to one slot, which was pretty good, and managed to do a decent job, judgeing by the reaction! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif Am now knackered (three nights out on the trot, one of them working) but inspired to get on with a new demo and a remix I've been asked to do - maybe tomorrow then... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif Hope you've all had good weekends. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/thumbup.gif
  3. Welcome fellow new member http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/042.gif I first got drafted into a friends mobile setup because she saw me do a raffle on a mic - don't think she had any idea how nervous it made me, but i can do it, and it saved her from the bit she hated! (Taxi for Jones! Last orders at the bar!) Now I do club stuff and don't have to talk - much better! Didn't stop someone asking me what my 'patter' was like one time tho - I don't think she understood what I did... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif
  4. Yeah - definitely going to enjoy this.... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/laugh.gif
  5. Hmmm - I think my age IS my bust size... time to break out the gym membership again... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/sad.gif Anyway folks - I'm enjoying myself too much - I have work to do! Catch ya later. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/042.gif
  6. Worry not! I'm not ashamed of my 'advancing' years, and it's nice to find a good mixed age group - sounds like my social life! Don't look it, (luckily) certainly don't act it... (age or shoe size). http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/laugh.gif http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/139.gif Kazz for the weekend... I think I'm going to like it here..... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
  7. Do you beat the answer to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything? And know where the quote is from? http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
  8. Thanks people - don't worry boss man - I've already got my oar stuck into the weddings and funerals debate! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif Hi Kray - I tend to sort meself out so far, have played Fishtank a few times, Space Cadet, Transend, Fuschsia (all a bit history now!), Coda etc - I'm playing the Steamin' boat party this weekend and I do a monthly little night called Stoned at the Fawcett with a mate of mine. Been there at all? What's your style? I'm very Pompey centred, but it's time to spread me wings a bit - especially as I'm knocking on a bit and if I want
  9. Loads of excellent comment - I still assert that there're uncooperative crowds out there, god love 'em but actually, the biggest key to success, once you know which knobs to twiddle, is to enjoy yourself and look like you are! Whatever you play, whichever kind of DJ you are - bloody enjoy it, and that makes a real difference. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif You can be as technically proficient as you like - if you're a miserable begger in your presentation, you're in the wrong job. (Like those taxi drivers that so obviously don't like other people in their cars...)
  10. I gotta admire you kazzachi, if you can get them up all night! I've done a goodly number of functions - discos, weddings, birthdays etc - my experience has largely been that not too many will get up and boogie until they've had a few jars - and at a lot of functions, people just want to chat and socialise a lot. I also have to laugh (or I'd cry) when you've just done a storming half hour of Motown, and some swine lurches up and says "play some Motown love, that'll get them up!" I'm told I'm pretty good at that sort of thing, so I don't think I'm playing the wrong stuff. Anyway - it always d
  11. Hi y'all - I've decided to up the proportion of female DJs and stick in a post. I've been DJing around six years - mobile to start with, and club based for the last three. I've stuck pretty much to occasional gigs on home territory so far (Portsmouth) due to heavy work commitments, but I'm trying to branch out now - if only I could find the time to get a decent demo together!! Started trancy, have gone off on a techno tip now - give me a nice phhhat wobbly thudding bassline and some backwards sucking sounds and I'm happy. (Well, c'mon - how else do you describe it?) http://www.dj-fo
