  1. I use classical piano, classical chamber music, latin jazz, dinner jazz, swing(crooners), Big Band, and some wedding classicals I have. I also have the Mastermix Ballad Box set which is LOTS of appropriate tracks. I did 10 hours of BG once and didn't have to repeat, though I did play some salsa in there too. There must be something on the ClassicFM label too Classical Love/Romance/Smooth
  2. A friend of mine who started doing tea dances, and got really good at it was getting £300 for sat PM, then another £300 for sat eve, and twice again on sundays. He takes almost no kit and can pack out in 20 mins. He is full time at this and does 8 - 10 gigs a week! He has the banter - almost woganesque! He is coining in the money! Really is getting the music and the banter right in a venue with a good floor. He is a great guy but to see an Indian getting "Wogan TOGS" up to do old time and ballroom is slightly surreal!
  3. I have some caddies that say "insert a formatted drive" and there is NO way you can format a drive in those caddies. Also I have a caddie that cannot be non-destructively opened! So Caveat Emptor watch what you buy, get the right formatting first.
  4. I've had to PAT fail some kit because the Shuko adapter had lost earth contact, so def go for the new lead! A conventional iec is 10a max so a 1mm2 lead is fine.
  5. Remember also that its feet indoors and yards outside! If the client says its 10 feet then indoors it probably is, but outdoors its more like 10 yards! Take enough cable.
  6. They sometimes ask for your academic details -- this is used as info backup for identity theft. The early form of this scam was to collect your kit and discs in a van, then (not) send the limo to take you to the gig. -profit to them all your kit and discs.
  7. The rent insurance etc. you pay to Big Yellow (or others) is a direct business expense, therefore 100% allowable. If you charge a portion of your house, say one room, then there is a portion of the heat and power too.BUT That portion of your house can then attract business rates and can attract capital gains tax when you sell, as that portion was not your primary residence but a place of work.
  8. 1- What is the most popular type of wedding reception at the moment? Formal but self hosted by the Bride and Groom. 2- Could you name a few of the most popular type of music and songs you are asked to play? Difficult! With the B&G typically being older than weddings in the 80's and 90's their music tastes can be more mature and varied. Also what inspires one happy couple may well despair another. 3- At what stage in planning a wedding should the couple approach their chosen DJ or band? As soon as you have the date and location look for the entertainment for you gue
  9. With all the legacy issues Vista is a poor choice at the moment. Unless you run it in W2K or XPsp2 mode there are many issues and incompatibilities. BPM certainly falls down with 64 bit and dual channel processing without "fixes" .
  10. PCDJ will do shuffle play or list autoplay right IF you set the configuration settings right, are there similar settings on VDJ?
  11. There are two sets of regs Nuisance Ifd your noise causes a nuisance to others and they complain then your noise will be regulated or stopped by legal order by Environmental Health officers from the council. They can confiscate equipment, and impose licence terms on venues Noise at work is much newer If the sound excedes 83dB* then the employer/manager has to take steps to limit the noise exposure of staff and punters. there are level vs time calculations that can be made with sophisticated meters and computer analysis and skilled audio professionals. These are hard for skilled p
  12. As the proportion of calls made from mobiles rises, 0800 numbers will lose their value as they are chargeable at some unspecified rate. A recent call to an 0700 number cost me over £1 a minute recently - I won't be doing business with them again! People do have a distrust of non-geographic numbers.
  13. All DMX should be on 5 pin XLR - its the 3 pin, TRS jack, and RJ45 stuff that is off spec. Controllers - The generic controller is BLANK when you buy it, you have to spend lots of time and effort putting programmes, looks, and states in. They will cope with mixed makes of lights though. The manufacturer specific controller will have programmes built in plus possibly sound syncing and a write custom programme section. If you have NJD datamoon and scans then an IQ-MX 60 or 80 will bw a super option. The 60 has progs built in and a custom section and is fully loaded from power up.
  14. Giving out cards at your own booking is verging on the tacky. Giving out cards at an agents gig is cutting your own throat! Giving out request slips is a nice idea. Trouble is that recently I have had gigs with so many requests from the brids that there was no time for guest requests.
  15. Easiest method is a 13a to bulgin accessory wite for the tester and a bulgin plug to earth connection accessory. That way you tast the lead, then test the lightbox with the lead.
