  1. I have approx 10,000 tracks for disco use on mp3 or aac format. I do not use karaoke so do not have and cd-g music. My old cd index was about the same. Since switching to digital it gave me a chance to chuck out album doubles etc. So slimmed down the index by about 2000 songs then readded about 2000 in last year as digital versions. As already said this is more than enough for any average gig. I have a repectable amount in each genre etc. And these days its not worth buying many albums any more due to being able to purchase the tracks you really want without adding the usual ego trip
  2. Shortened my giraffe stands as even on lowest setting they would not fit in some venues. Made own starcloth as none of the ones on the market would do what I wanted. (10 channels 4.5 metres x 2.5 metres all led) Added new corner protectors to my speakers and subs and transit cases, Made own Decks skirt to cover Dj stand and tables etc. Modified lights in past to alter original gobos or effect. Done a fair few things over the years to modify kit to a new perpose or just to make it fit in some cases. If you dont carry a screwdriver to a gig there is something wrong lol
  3. I would look for a smart rig. One that shows that it is well maintained. Does he have experience of the type of event. How long has he been doing it. Will he choose music based on people or does he always play same thing. Will his lights be over the top or just righ for event and venue. Is he inured and P.A.T tested. I would also most likely choose my DJ from having seen him perform at another event I had attended. Choosing based on website blog or chat on the phone can be misleading in any industry.
  4. I use a plain black strech fabric cloth. The strech fabric means it looks smooth from the front. It covers nicely and looks very neat. The reason I do not have a printed banner is because I do not believe they look suitable for the type of functions I do (mainly weddings and corporate functions.) I do have a star cloth 1 decks skirt and 1 4.5 metre x 2.5 metre backdrop. However I only take them out when I have somethign behind me that spoils the look of the show like windows or some sort of decoration etc. I still consider that light boxes have there place in a disco. Although I do not
  5. For a while I used a vivid fogger. Cost £30 from maplin and it still works fine 4 years on. Have bought a new hazer since but still get the fogger out occasioanlly. I used electrovison smoke fluid in it with no problems at all. I always empty it after use and it seems to keep it going fine. I would recomend them as a smoke machine as long as you look after it. (maplin sell them for £29.99 if you decide on one) Can fill a large venue quite quickly.
  6. Had one of those as well. In fact think I still have it somewhere. Not bad but I felt the bottom plate seemed a bit flimsy. Especiall when It picked up my sub or decks.
  7. I use one of these I bought from B&Q cost me about £20 . Not bad but do not use on carpet as they have a habit of becoming a bit uncontrolable.
  8. Had a similar problem with a local venue once. Explained to the managment that I use digital playout system and it would cause damage to it if the power was cut. I offered the manager a deal. I would keep music to a reasanable volume if he would allow me to connect else where. he agreed on the understanding that if i was asked by anyone to turn it down I would respond immediatly. No one asked my to turn it down and everyone enjoyed evening. Manager came up at end and said my level was great and he was glad we did what we did. I think a little explaination of why we are worried by th
  9. Main problem with fat32 is that you have to split large file directories up or the speed slows down considerably. Also the fact that vista won't format in fat32 anymore doesnt help over all.
  10. Sounds like you are using a fat32 formatted drive. I tried that once but ifound it to slow so switched to an ntfs drive . Now a string search gives results in less than 4 seconds.
  11. Takes a couple of seconds on mine as well since version 1.9 . Although I only have about 10,000 songs on my drive.
  12. I wonder if the unit can be used for VJ'ing as well with the addition of a dvd drive or is it just for adding music in mp3 form.
  13. The orangry consists of 3 main rooms. 2 in the atrium and one in the main building. I have played the biggest room. That is the upstairs room of the atrium. The access is via a side corridor about 100 metres long up 2 flights of stairs outside (concrete not metal though) and then another 100 metres across the main room to the main setup point. Plenty of power points etc and some nice mood lighting. The down stairs room access is the same but without the stairs so about 200 meters from parking. But a good flat route ideal for a trolley. The other room I am afraid I have no experience of but
  14. Air dusters are pretty hand things to use for the larger build ups of dust. Especially if you use a smoke machine and it starts to coat it all. Good old Isopropyl Alcohol is the best cleaner to use as it evaperates after use so no residue. Using a cotton bud as previously mentioned is very handy for cleaning fans and those hard to reach places. Soak it in IPA and then give quick wipe. You may find after the dust is removed it may be quieter as well as the dust can create blowing noises from fans etc.
  15. I have from now 1-12 on cassette and from 13 till now all on cd. Although I am missing 1 in the 20's slips my mind what one it is though. They are not bad for filling in older chart stuff but there are some better compilations around. The old Now Hits series are probably better buys for those trying to catch up on music. Any one got 1- 10 on cd? did they do them on cd that far back?
