  1. Anyone onto this yet? Friend saw a band called The Correspondents at a wedding which blew her away. Been digging and found whole new genre never heard of but reckon a lot this sort of stuff could go down a storm. TC have an unrealeased track which uses a Jungle Book track which could go massive. Get a flavour by checking out Electro Swing compilation on I-Tunes. Would be interested to know if people have tried to out. Cheers
  2. Cheers Guys. Think I will pull out my 12 of E.Gay and give it a go - first one I ever bought! OMD got a new album coming out very soon and touring. My local (Bristol) venue has almost sold out apparently (1600 seats) so obviously still v.popular. TBH I got the p:cense:s taken out of me pretty regularly at school for liking them but now in my 40's keep meeting people who say they were their favourite 80's band. Bands like The XX also citing them as big influences.
  3. Bit of a random one. Just wondered if anyone, particularly DJ's who do a lot of 80's nights, has ever tried out early OMD tracks - 'Electricity' or 'Messages' in a set. Being a massive OMD back in day + always looking for something a bit different, I'd love to try them out but haven't had the bottle as yet! In my view they sound as good as anything out there retro synth wise now but appreciate could be a bit obscure for some tastes. Cheers
  4. Hi All I'm looking for 2 lighting effects at the moment, but can't seem to see anything on various websites and hoping someone could point me in the right direction. Both are for smaller venues and for projecting onto walls/ceilings: 1) a moving cluster of large white circles, very close to each other (maybe colour changing) 2) an effect replicating the old 1960's psychedelic oil wheel lamps with a wide spread (seen one from Soundlab but doesn't seem to be that wide or bright from the reviews) Any advice much appreciated. Cheers.
  5. This is a constant problem I am facing, and as a bit of part timer who is desperate to play top non-cheesy stuff, really frustrating. The thing I've found is that I get booked on the basis of not playing cheese which is what the bride and groom think is what they want, only to find that on the night due to a mixture of booze, other guests pressure (usually pretty smashed), the 'old favourites' come in as requests and cheese takes over. I've had people getting pretty aggressive about it when I've tried to explain that the bride and groom didn't want the grease megamix! The trouble is you nev
  6. Hi All Would welcome a bit of advice. Got the following list through for a wedding I'm doing in a couple of weeks time: 1. David Bowie – “Magic Dance” (middle of night) 2. Foo Fighters – “Everlong” 3. Cheryl Cole – “Fight for this Love” 4. Gnarls Barkley – “Crazy” 5. Seal – “Kiss from a Rose” (Slow one for later in evening?) 6. Sheryl Crow – “All I Wanna Do” 7. The Hoosiers – “Worried About Ray” 8. The Police – “Every Breath You Take” 9. U2 – “Beautiful Day” 10. Elton John – “Circle of Life” (One I’d really l
  7. I'm tempted to say ' The boy with a thorn in his side' by The Smiths....but that would be plain childish. How about 'Wake me up before you go go' Wham?
  8. Can I stick in a few suggestions (don't know if these have already been ditched): - Play that funky music white boy - Wild Cherry - Heart of Glass - Blondie - Respect - Aretha Franklin - Dee Lite - Groove is in the heart - The Smiths - This Charming Man - Love Action - Human League - Temptation - Heaven 17 - Don't stop till you get enough - Michael Jackson - James Brown - Sex Machine + classic post closing track (wind down) - My baby just cares for me - Nina Simone Cheers HTDJ
  9. Cheers. How do you eq your Mackies - from mixer or graphic? Also, what do you reckon to using the contour button. I don't tend to play to more than 150 people and always in small-medium size venues. Is there a danger of overdoing the speakers with this button on at peak times?
  10. Hi All Have had a few instances recently where my Mackies have lacked a bit of bass. I know this criticism has been made about them by others from looking at other posts. To be honest, although I know the proper solution is to buy a decent sub I'm loath to do this at the moment due to cost and the additional hassle of carting it around (+ my back muscles!). I have read somewhere that ensuring the Mackies are Eq'd properly could help so considering whether I should buy a graphic eq as my Vestax mixer only has 3 channels. Could anyone advise on a decent, and not too expensive or bul
  11. Isolators have arrived and look good but haven't had a chance to use yet - will try and remember to give some feedback on this forum when I have. Cheers
  12. Oliver Finally got round to the home test (been away for a while) and did what you suggested. Couldn't play the record at that 'peak' volume due to room size, my eardrums etc but when just the needle was on the record there didn't seem to be any feedback. It did however alert me to the sensitivity of the deck itself as just knocking it made a big noise! Do you think this means that it was maybe the vibrations of the bass when the tune was playing that caused the feedback or are there any other tests I could do? Thanks again for your help. John
  13. Cheers to all for the advice - never used this forum before and it's been a godsend to be honest - probably saved me good money taking my kit to a PA company for testing etc. Will try out suggestion of the 'home test' as soon as I can but bit confused by when you say 'you don't need to play it' - isn't it the actual music being played at the loud volume that causes the feedback or have I got the wrong end of the stick? From what various people have said it seems that I need to stick to the following next time I play out: - It's very unlikely that there is anything wrong with m
  14. Thanks for this - would these work underneath a flightcase or would I be better off buying some foam? Cheers John
