  1. :welcome:

Steer away from the soundlab kit, it's cheap, budget, unreliable cack.

I've had my soundlab colourscans for a few years now and have been really pleased with them. Came with their own flightcase and everything. They have proved more reliable than my Martin lighting, which I have had to get rid of apart from my Acrobat.

  2. i found this problem with VDJ my lap top was loaded with other things and the program kept freezing and crashing, iv changed computer now and it never freezes, :-)

I have a dedicated laptop that has had everything uninstalled on it apart the programs that are needed to operate the laptop. It is a Sony Vaio and has quite a high spec.

I use a Numark DMC 2 with mine on mobile gigs, and use a Rane Serato SL1 on virtual DJ on the club scene.

I have tried most software that is out there, and find Virtual DJ the best one for me. The only problem I have found, is that it is too easy to download a "Home" version from their website, and many people or DJ "wannabes" have downloaded. I get comments like "thats virtual DJ, I have that at home" When I am playing at a venue or club like that I always use scratch live lol.

  3. My Source Hydrahaze never seems to have a problem. Although I feel it is not powerful enough, and I have to have it set to running constantly. You can see the light beams where the machine is positioned. After about a meter from the lights it disappears. I have found this to of been the best option and have never set any alarms off using it.

  4. The ADJ Revo 4's are good. But I managed to find a light thats exactly the same. In fact I think the KAM ones are brighter and have more built in functions.

Have seen some of these on eBay for sale brand new for £80-£90.

I have 2 of these and am very chuffed with them.

  5. The last 21st Birthday Party I did, their in-house DJ was there to watch me setup to make sure that I did not use any of his equipment or plug into any of it. I did point out that my Peavey UL Subs and Tops were more sufficient and would not need to plug into his 12" Skytec Speakers lol.

He was very angry that even though he comes included as the price of the hall, the birthday girl had paid extra as she wanted me to DJ for her.

The entire time I was setting up the DJ was going on and on about me stepping on his toes.

Another time I had set my equipment up at the side of the stage, with the speaker stacks either side of the stage. When I arrived at the venue later I had found the band had took my top speakers off the stack, put them onto stands, and then plugged a cable in from their amp to my speakers, also leaving my feed from my amp plugged into them also.

I was not impressed and this left a very sour bad atmosphere for the rest of the night.

  6. Hi,

I sat down and typed all my listings out into Excel. I must point out this did take a very long time indeed. Now I am up to date I only have to add the new ones in as and when I get them.

I did lose faith in the capacity of being able to type every single disc out so did use this software to generate the last 20 discs:

    http://www.airwer.com/

    Worth every penny !

  7. I considered buying a UPS Power Supply to run the CD Players, Mixer and computer equipment from. So when the power does cut, it would only take seconds to be up and running again after resetting the system.

Normally I would always try and plug the amplifier, mixer, CD Player and the computer etc into a socket not connected to the limiter and then plug everything else into the sockets that are connected to it.

So if I was to hit the exceeded limit that it would only be a minimal impact.

I do have a compression limiter so I may use that next time (instead of it being in the rackmount looking pretty lol)

  8. My weakness is buying second hand Disco Bargains from Ebay and the classifieds, for the last few years our garage has been full of some 'retro' style club lighting effects, which I intended to clean up / fix etc, but have never gotten around too!.

Exactly the same here! I realised last week that I had 12 mixers, 40 Disco effects, 30 Par 56 cans etc.

I have had to get a storage unit to put my equipment in. I just buy equipment if its on a special offer in a shop or I see something going cheap on eBay.

Last week I listed all of this equipment and have sold the lot, but today am going through all the packing and posting it.

Nice to know I am not the only one lol

  9. Its only my personal opinion, but although LED technology is far more advanced than it was during these discussions a year or so ago, I still find even the 3w and 7w based LED effects to be underpowered when compared to conventional lighting effects using 250W halogen lamps.

Don't get me wrong, LED's work well in small to medium venues with 'bright' decor and freshly painted white walls, but I play a lot of older style venues, which have dark paneling, stained wood floors and are generally 'dark' and need a bit of lighting to cheer them up. In these types of venues I find my LED effects look 'lost' especially if used alongside more traditional effects using halogen or discharge lamps where the difference is obvious.

I totally agree. I still use my 24v 250Watt scanners and DMX Twisters.

I did buy a couple of the American DJ Comscans but sold them on as the brightness was nowhere near my existing scanners.

However I have bought a couple of these units:

    KAM LED RGBW CONCEPT DMX

    http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/stk_img_med/L/E/D/LEDCONCEPT.JPG

I have been very pleased with these lights. I always tend to use my older lighting but take two of these units out so I can alternate between these and the twisters.

LED effects are getting much better, but personally I would only go for either the KAM LED CONCEPT or a scanner or twister effect that has at least a 20watt LED.

  10.

    Hi,

Any hints, tips or any experience of the same situation would be greatly appreciated.

I currently have a residency at a nightclub in Norfolk, and have done so for the past 1 year.

The club is open from 9pm until 6am.

I do every Friday and Saturday.

Apparently the venue have had complaints sent in on Facebook about hearing similar music each week. :wall:

I never plan ahead what music I am going to play throughout the night but always make sure I have more than enough music. I currently use a digital set-up using a 2TB hard drive, and 2 x flight cases containing 500 CD's in each case.

    2 x Pioneer CDJ 1000 MK3 and a DJM-900 Mixer. :chad:

I tend to play a similar sort of music most weeks but add to it as new releases come into the charts, take some songs out, and as I can get hold of new music I add this in.

I get a astoundingly large amount of requests as it is a busy club, and if I don't play them within 10 Minutes people email in and complain aswell.

I play various music from Commercial (Nicki Minaj, LMFAO etc), Dance, Trance Classics, 90's Dance Classics, Kisstory, Garage,DanceHall, and a bit of some well known cheese tracks.

I don't know what else I can do to change my sets any more as I currently play everything across the board within reason. Excluding music genres such as rock, heavy metal etc.

There is another venue nearby where the DJ has a set playlist and it is exactly the same every week, and has been for the past 2 years. From 10pm-12.30am he plays the latest chart and then from 12.30am exactly the same each week. For example 2am every Sunday morning early hours; Darude - Sandstorm followed by Paffendorf - Be Cool etc. But this DJ does not experience problems of complaints. :hurt:

I am worried that I could lose my job by people complaining to the owners on Facebook, and I have turned down all Mobile Disco bookings etc and devoted myself to this residency. This is my sole job.

I really enjoy DJing at the Club, and enjoy the different people I meet aswell. I am on a good wage and get on really well with my bosses.

I am at my wits end, and would very much appreciate any tips or pointers.

    Many thanks in advance :photo:

    :thanks:

  11. I've used the NDX-800's which I thought were a great unit, and a good way to have a setup similar to Pioneer CDJ's.

With the NDX-800's they have USB outputs so you can use them with Virtual DJ etc, although I have not mastered how to do this yet, They are really good units though :)

  12. Hi,

I am really wanting to buy a couple of moving heads. They are something I have really wanted for a while now.

The showtec one is cheaper than the Chauvet Min-Spot.

And the final one is this light from Thomann:

If i could get away with it I would rather buy 2 or 4 of the Showtec or Chauvet moving heads for their size, and being able to easily get a flightcase for them cheaper.

Has anyone used any of these lights, and what are the outputs like ?

I have watched You Tube videos of them working, but anything can be made to look great on camera so wanted some advice on these units please.

    Thanks in advance :)
