smulou 0
Have a HK Audio Lucas 1000 sound system. Have a problem with satalitte speakers no sound at all sub woofer working ok. Only had for 8 months have taken back to supplier who have checked it out and told me that the drivers in both speakers have blown due to over powering. Have never had volume level over halfway do do not know how drivers have blown, have also been told that this is not covered under warranty. Has anyone esle encountered any problems with Lucas system as can only think that there is a manufacturing fault. Trying to argue my case but supplier will not have it as not under warranty. Any comments appreciated.
kazzachi 0
Having never heard of lucas, is it possible that you have over estimated the capabilities of the amp versus speakers? WE LOVE KAREN, AND IT'S GREAT TO HAVE HER BACK !!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ChrisPointon 0
Knowing the specification of both the Amplifier which you were running them from, and the actual speakers would be required to advise further http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/smile.gif . These can often found on the rear panel (Amplifier) or the connection plate (Speakers). Just post what it says on both.
Hugmaster 0
Hi The lucas is an active system with the base and satellite amp both housed in the base cab, the amps are designed exactly for the speekers. 8 months and is not covered by guarantee? shoddy. Sorry I don't have the specs to hand. Darren Take a listen to Music Matters, the Big Mix Entertainment podcast, featuring music from the Podsafe Music Network.
Kingy 0
I love Hk stuff. The lucas 1000 has on board compressors which SHOULD prevent you from blowing a driver. However, if you push and push, it is possible. What sort of gig etc was you doing when they failed? As an ex-manager of a retail outlet, speaker burn out is NEVER covered by warranty unless the amplifier ( sold at the same time as you bought the speakers in un-powered cases) is faulty and caused it (ie gone DC). If the amp circuits in the bass bin are fine, I doubt you will get very far.

picturevalve 0
Thanks for that guys. Was not even ding a gig when drivers blew was setting up for a gig in the afternoon so at time sound level even lower than half capacity. Any recomendations on repair bit of a novice with electrics can drivers be easily replaced or does it need doing by a specialist ? I've repaired two of the these satellite speakers recently, the guy was running 2 x 150w spkrs. from a 300w mosfet amp - not a hk amp. The woofers were o/c in each case - but the coils were, in fact, o/k. The problem was with the fine braided connections going o/c - probably due to excessive cone excursion. I jumpered these connections from the connector to as near the cone as possible with fine solder sucker braid and they've survived for a while now. However the mad dj has now blown the piezo horn in one - the plastic casing at the rear has actually melted with the heat generated and the white sound absorbing "wool" has stuck to it. :) I opened it to find that the solder had actually run off one connection and the plastic diaphragm the piezo plate was meant to be stuck to was beautifully corrugated. Thomann seems to have a replacement for about £20.
