  1. Wow thanks for all your feedback and advice! I think I have a long way to go yet before I can call myself a dj!

Marc I actually mix with the crossfader. I never realised I shouldn't, it just seemed easier for me in the first few discos I've done. Is that really bad then? What is the crossfader for then?

Thanks for the links too. I need to do my homework.

Crossfader is useful for some forms of mixing, and a pain in the butt for others.

You are in Surrey right? Why not go along to a few of our gigs with us? Marc and myself often work in Surrey, we could show you what we do and how we do it.

  2. As some of you will know I'm very new to this djing business. I love music, but I'm a complete dunce when it comes to the technical side of things.

I have the Numark CDN 22Mk3 Twin CD Player and Numark DM1090 Mixer and there are slide volume controls. There is the master one and then 2 others for each channel. Should the master one be set differently to the other 2 if that makes sense? I can see the difference between using the 2 channels but when do you use the master one and is there a position that it should be set at to balance the other 2?

Does any of what I've asked make sense?? :stu:

Here you go llcooljoe, this should help.

  3. Red Bull usually - 1 or 2 cans max during my usual 6 hour club/bar gig every night.

Jon, please be careful with that stuff, it's not got a very healthy list of ingredients. I will resort to Red Bull only in extreme circumstances.

Did you know that eating an apple can wake you up better than a cup of coffee? I now carry apples for the way home!

  4. For the past 6 years Ive done mobiles which have been around the 400-500 mark for 10pm-2am (4hrs)

This year I'm doing a venue which provides me with work 3 nights a week all year round. I'm taking the "remember who pays you 52 weeks a year" stance and not charging as much as I usually would for NYE; but slightly more than the residency normally pays me, as it's more hours.

I'm happy, venue is happy so thats what I'll do. Its 3 minute drive from my apartment too and all kit is install.

What does everyone else think of this? Would you take the same approach as I have?

I think that's very good of you.

The venue I work on NYE can't justify my rate for their run of the mill stuff, but they are very happy to pay my rate for one of the most important dates in their diary. This date gets them a lot of work thoughout the year, so they push the boat out. If I was there often during the year, I would give them a workable discount.

  6. Give it time, I've only just sent the form LOL!

Feed back form is in, we did a big old house set on the Bose L1 for this wedding, client said:

What was the volume level like?

    perfect

What was the sound quality like?

    excellent

  7. How about pausing half way through the night to interview him live? You could ask him about HIS music policy! You could then direct any requests for other stuff to him

Well he is your client, so you have to play what he allows!

  8. Oooh, goodie! Another Pioneer / Denon debate!

My S5000s were playing CDs in seconds that Brians CDJ1000 Mk3s seemed to take ages to read....

Really? I have only had one problem with a vbr mp3 cd. To be fair Marc, I haven't loaded the latest fw yet on my CDJ1000mk3's.

Must do that...then you can try again.
