  1. QUOTE (Corabar Steve @ Feb 25 2006, 02:10 AM) QUOTE (Old School Disco @ Feb 24 2006, 03:06 PM) Burn, Valentine, Sympathy for the devil (yep the stones tune), Marian, Alice and Some Kind of Stranger. I'll go with any of those. What album is Sympathy on? I do believe it was on a very early EP. In my opinion it is how the song should have been done in the first place!! Very dark, Very menacing!! If you get the chance sit and listen to First and Last and Always. One of the best, most complete albums from the 80's! Boy meets girl, Boy / Girl fall out, boy misses girl. Done in the only way
  2. Well I got to get my new speakers fired up and used on Friday! A small / medium sized hall, approx 100 - 120 guests. The set up was the same length as usual, but I took a fair bit of time playing with speaker placement and EQ. I've always used my mids on a pole located into the subs, but on Friday, I used some old speaker stands that I had doing nothing. Well it's getting on for 8 O'clock and things are ticking along quite nicely. I get asked that when the speaches are over, could I go cheesy and crank it up! How could I refuse? Well, I have to admit, for the money I am very happy
  3. As we have to listen to pretty much the same thing week in week out, what do you listen to when you are chilling out? Please don't laugh, but I'm a Goth at heart! My entire multi-changer selection in the car consists of The Sisters Of Mercy!! Mind you, having played bass with them at the Birmingham NEC, I suppose I'm biased! Favourite tracks are:- Burn, Valentine, Sympathy for the devil (yep the stones tune), Marian, Alice and Some Kind of Stranger. Over to you guys......
  4. If my heart was allowed to rule my head (and bank balance), I would no doubt have gone for the Mackies. They have a really nice sound. If I hadn't taken a last minute booking for tonight, I would have plumped for the Class D, although I would have wanted the complete set up, as I thought the double bass bins are mental!! I have to admit that I was a little disappointed with the JBL's though. Very loud, but personally I feel you would still need to run subs with them. At £599 they weren't cheap or expensive, but for a few quid more the mackies gave a far better performance. As Chris said,
  5. As you will probably be aware, I have been in the market for some new speakers. After much debate (with the missus) and inner turmoil (with myself), the powers that be, and I, went out on a quest to listen to as many as we could. I listened to the JBL JRX125's, some Mackies (just to see what you lot are on about!!), some right nasty cheapy things, some Gemini and some Class D 15". The JBL's were........ 'OK' but seemed to lack something although I couldn't put my finger on it immediately. The mackies were awesome!! They almost stir your very soul, but then for the money they damn well
  6. KILLED by death - Motorhead
  7. A Pub with no beer - Slim DUSTY
  8. QUOTE (brianmole @ Feb 21 2006, 09:11 PM) I'm passionate about Macs now they run OS X, nice pretty stable OS, beautiful systems even the Mrs loves it! PC are cheap but prone to a lot of virii, vulnerabilities, etc... Millions of so-called experts on hand to cloud your problems http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/laugh.gif Too true about the so called experts!! Until recently I was using a well travelled iMac G3 (the all in one jobbie with a CRT screen). it was Six years old and no problem at all. Never let me down, even gigging wiith it. The sound quality from it was secon
  9. monKEY Man - Toots and the maytals http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/beer.gif
  10. Carribean QUEEN - Billy Ocean
  11. I love my Mac I've just bought another G5 (OK not a laptop, but far more compact than a PC) to use at gigs. I have to admit the sound quality from the macs' soundcard is the dogs. They are easy to use and very reliable. Software may be a little more pricey, but doesn't hang like a windows PC.
  12. QUOTE (robbiedj @ Feb 19 2006, 08:08 PM) I'm begining to think the next great "cheese" request is going to be Push The Button. Not that classic electro tune from Neucleus http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif ? I remember disclocating my shoulder 'break dancing' to that!! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/oops.gif (No I'm not that stupid, I know you mean the Sugababes) http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/hide.gif
  13. QUOTE (ADS Entertainments @ Feb 8 2006, 10:00 PM) Claxtons - The Clapping Song Ye Gods Man..... The Klaxons - Clap Clap Sound!! If I do a gig on a recommendation from someone who has been to an "Old School Disco", every time I get asked for this tune. Admittedly it gives me the chance to get down there with them, and the kids love this tune!!! Aparently Black Lace covered this and gave it a higher tempo and more modern sound, but can I find it!! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wallbash.gif One of my faves http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/sad.gif .........
  14. I also use these, and have had no problems at all! For the money they are spot on.
  15. I'd be looking at around £500. I like the look of the peavy speakers though. Speakers would be my last update for a while though. The Skytecs have served me well but the mids/tops are sounding quite harsh and almost toneless. The bass cabs are erm......present shall we say but they don't give a 'warm' feel Chris
