  1. Im surprised at the Pioneer 5000 still being available. The Software bugs used to cause the unit to lock up (or at least its control panel) during certain operations. Especially Auto-mix... it would sit there for "ever" waiting for Sync between the tracks, and if that sync did'nt "appear" the song would end, but the player would still sit there, waiting. As for the MP3 player. couldnt we turn the problem on its head....Try getting Nomad's manufacturers to add some DJ features, like Varispeed and Key Adjust/Lock.
  2. I'm happy enough to use a set list/play list for background music eg: During the munchie bit of a Dinner dance. I'm lucky enough that my CD-decks remember the Program/play order of discs that I put in, automatically next time I insert that CD. Save's me having to manually program in Track 4, then 7, then 21, then 12....etc etc etc at the start of each Dinner dance. I would "consider" the use of a "main music" eg: Mid-show, track listing EG: 6 songs from the 60's, or 8 Glam rock tunes of the 70's... but only in a "ready to be mixed - AS THE DJ sees fit" not on some auto-mix button.
  3. Could the "safety" of the material be "guaranteed" by the manufacturers putting a PIN number on the CD/MP3 deck. This suggestion is more of a "loop hole" work-around, than an actually solution, but as you say given the "freedom" of downloads from Web to Harddrive... In terms of Copyright infringment, no one should be allowed to own a Video recorder. "Copyright BBC XXIII" etc
  4. I'm probably going to sound "picky" here but... What I'd like is a dual cd-deck (rack mounted) with 2 CD trays and either 1 or 2 USER UPGRADABLE harddrive(s) inbetween/under the two drives. The reason why I say User upgradable is simply due to the plummeting costs (per gigabyte) of Harddrives nowadays, although I realise this could start leveling off soon. Sticking an 80gig harddrive into this "super Mp3 unit" TODAY, would cost a manufacturer around (say) £60. In a couple of years time, however, a user running low on storage space could probably buy a drive thats twice as big for h
  5. I can certainly see the logic in the above comments about buying/using a laptop solely for DJ'ing, and absolutely nothing else. EG: Not letting all those extra drivers, and registry entries detract the PC from doing its job. However, that does mean that a £700(or more) laptop is then dedicated to the one task. Other DJ related tasks, such as invoicing my clients, keeping track of everything that my (rotten) Inland Revenue Self Assessment Tax Return is going to want to know about, SMS-mailshots to anyone who's text'd me requests at "so and so's" party two week ago etc, etc would have to be
  6. The specs on those "suggested" systems -almost- got confusing/worrying until I remembered your comment of "always assume that speakers will be 8ohms". EG: Seeing a 300watt speaker on a 400watt amp. (poor ickle speaker! http://www.chrispointon.f2s.com/Forum/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif ) But when you take the impedence into account....you (and your speakers) can breathe a sigh of relief. As it was an amp offering 400watts @ 4 ohms, which is only 200watts into 8 ohms, so each 300watt speaker only gets 200watts pushed into it. Safe... http://www.chrispointon.f2s.com/Forum/html/emoticons

  8. I am very keen in moving all my tunes (18+ years of vinyl) onto CD, to compliment the last 4 years of CD's that I have. I have considered the option of going to MP3/PC usage, mainly because I'd love to turn up at a gig and not carry in 11 record boxes (14 until I started moving my vinyl over to CD). My main concern being initial and long-term reliability of using a PC or laptop on the road. Also if something went wrong with my current system, I would be able to "rig something" - I've even got a spare, replaceable drive for my CD-decks. The ultimate nightmare must be to turn up to a gig
  9. This is my first post here so, let me say "HI !!". first of all. Hmmm 1 double CD-deck, or two singles. Tricky. As with most pieces of equipment, there is no all-out "Best" cd-deck(or decks). Since, it depends on what your specific needs are. There are some incredible features on some CD-decks today. Are there any features which you have seen which have particularly aroused you (ohh eerr!). I use a Denon 9000 dual cd-deck and find some of the features on it, nothing short of amazing, and some of those features are simply not available on the cd-decks from other manufacturers. For
