Done a gig saturday night for my son`s girlfriends 14th birthday party, wasn`t a great payer as it was his girlfriend, so i went along to do it myself and not with my mate, whilst i was setting up i asked my son to set the laptop up with the external hdd, 15 mins into the gig i went to the laptop to make sure all was working ok and noticed the laptop had not picked up the hdd, so i had a look around to see what was wrong and............ my son had put the laptop power lead into the hdd, i kept my cool but was furious inside as he has set the laptop up plenty of times before, well 19v into my hdd fried the bleeding thing, 35000 tunes gone, luckily i have them all backed up on discs, so today i went out and got a new 500gb hard drive and now have the job of putting all the discs on hdd for back up at gigs.

was fun doing a 4 hr gig just on decks as i had never done it before,

oh well mistakes happen, just wish it was me who had done it and not him.

As you may know search engines (particularly Google) rank sites higher if they have other sites linking to them.

Hmmmmm....I'm about to buy a controller (not sure which one yet) and HDD set up to replace my faithful CD players and massive collection of disks.

One thing I've costed into this upgrade are two identical HDDs - just in case one goes down mid-gig. For what they now cost this seems a no-brainer.

Glad to hear you'd got adequate backups! Not too much harm done!!

Dont know what HD drive you have but just wonder if the drive itself might be ok you might have just burnt out a transformer or something... It is a pain when HDs go bad but such is life and atleast you have all your originals safe...

I dont bother using an external hard drive. I have my laptop backed up to one which lives at home.

I have 5000 tracks on my laptop plus I always have my CD's as backup.

Out of interest, what do you use as an on-site backup to your laptop, if your backup laptop lives at home?

Hi Richard,

I have my cds as backup in 2 case logic cd holders with Now 16-69 plus the millenium series plus jock in box, party in a box, etc etc.

Laptop has done 120+ gigs without a single problem purely running media player with crossfade
