4zzz 0
Hi Guys. Just had my website revamped and was talking to a web techie bloke today who said you need to run it through this webchecker http://www.w3.org/ My site comes up with 270 errors. It has just been optimized for search engines and currently not coming up in a search if you punch in the most obvious Brisbane DJ Have been told it will take a little time to come up and to be patient Is this a valid checking site? Anyone else have any thoughts on this
vokf 0
Anyone else have any thoughts on this Yes - the W3C is basically the "keepers of the web". Their "about us" page should help understand their work; http://www.w3.org/Consortium/ Without them, I dread the think what the web would be like... Web Pages should comply with the standards, and the validators on the site help to check this. 270 errors is pretty bad, but its worth checking what the errors are. A common problem is no "alt" tags for images. If a browser does not display images, the idea is that it will use the alt text to convey the meaning. Whilst this is useful for photos/logos/charts etc - its a bit silly to label every graphic used in the page layout. Go back to your web developer and ask them to fix some of these errors. 270 is far too many on a page. I'd also check the site on a range of browsers. I personally use the "browsershots" site; http://browsershots.org/ Regarding SEO, this will take time. Sometimes 2 months or more to start getting results. Google updates its "PageRank" every few months, and this is important to getting your site listed as high as possible. There was an update at end of Feb, and the next one will probably be in mid April. In the meantime, try to ensure you have a sitemap and this is submitted to Google asap. Incoming links (backlinks) to your site should be established asap. If you're happy to link to the forum from your site, then you may see some benefit from adding a link in your signature. Hope this helps -good luck! Jason
BigBen 0
That's top advice, Jason; you'd normally have to pay £50/hour for solid information like that! [insert quirky comment]
