Essentially, you'll need Amp and Speakers, and possibly one or two lights.

The Laptop can be used - "The Rev" swears at/by Windows Media Player with Crossover plugin. WinAmp will also do the same.

There are also some Open Source DJ software which offers higher functionality.

From your current set-up, plug the PC into 1 Mixer input, the CD player into the other, and the output into your amp. That should give you most flexibility.

For budget family "do's" then you mainly need speakers and an amp.

There will be many threads about budget speakers, but some good 250W or 300WRMS will be fine. A suitable amp should provide higher power (so a 2 x 400WRMS or similar)

I'd say you should be able to get some good 2nd used gear for that price. Lots of lights on ebay, but again, its worth asking in the Wanted area - some upgrade regularly and may want of offload gear here, rather than risk ebay.

Ok give me your £500 and I will set you up with a small 500w system with lights.

Sounds a fair deal Paul. Are you a retailer or getting shut of some of your unused gear?

The other day, the new Behringer Eurolive B215A 2-way lightweight active PA speaker system was mentioned.

Plenty of power there should you decide to take on the larger booking in the future.INCLUDING delivery - £329

Add two speaker stands - £39.95

Total so far - £368.95, leaving £131.05

Add T Bar Lighting Stand - £29.00

Add a DMX compatable led moonflower - £45.00

Leaves £57.05 in your pocket.

Of course, just suggestions and this is all from one company (with warranty), but you may be able to find better deals if you buy second hand.

It's mentioned in several other places on these forums so you might have already seen it but get yourself Beatport Sync (google it). Free software from the people behind Traktor, excellent for a starting laptop DJ.
