Yesterday I had my loaded van nicked.

It was nicked just before 1pm in the afternoon from the Farnworth area of Bolton.

I would appreciate it if anybody from the NW would keep an eye out for it just incase it is knocking about.

It is a white 1999 Renault Trafic T1000 SWB. It has a private plate on it J11MBV.

Most of the kit is pretty standard stuff that most DJs use, however there are a few things that are pretty unusual :-

One of the lasers is a custom built RGB and is unique as I even made the case, the mixer is a VocoPro, I've never seen or heard anybody else using one of these. There is a Pangolin FB3 and a QM32, these things don't normally turn up anywhere as they are specialist pieces of hardware. A pair of SRM450's also went, although they are pretty common now, if they get offered cheap it may suggest they are stolen.

As a warning to other, think about what you do with your back up gear, I carry most of mine with me for obvious reasons of breakdown at a gig, it does leave you wide open when something like this happens though, because it leaves you without your back up.

Jim, ring me if you are stuck, I have some active Yamaha 15s, American DJ mixer with some Stageline CD players, various bits of metal work and a pair of impossableds and other bits of lighting...no prob with bits and bobs like mics and headphones etc. If it gets you out of the **** you're welcome.

Hope you get everything back in one piece and you then get to know their address so you can make sure they never are able to do it again :D

Cheers Andy, I may take you up on that at some point.

At the moment I am OK as James is free on the dates in the next few weeks that I am working, so I can use his gear.

Hopefully I will get it back (in all honesty I don't expect to though), I am insured though but it is a waiting game with that, as the police don't acknowledge the kit as stolen until the van turns up with the goods missing, go figure.

I don't know how long the insurance take to sort things out though, although I am covered for hiring kit while they sort it.

You never know I may get lucky and it may be the same idiots that did this LOL.

Oh no that realy sucks big time :(

I really hope the police catch whoever it was. Where was the van outside the venue or home?

Not sure If I can help out in anyway (Not got *that* much kit). But if you do need to borrow a pair of speakers / amp / cd / mixer then let me know.

Cheers,

David

Cheers David,

It was outside my house, I don't live where I lived when you borrowed the PAT tester, I live on a new estate in Farnworth now so I don't have scallies living next door to me. I live on the Bovis 'Ferns' site at the end of Longcauseway.

Thanks for the offer of kit, I think I'm pretty much covered at the moment, but will give you a bell if I'm stuck.

Cheers.

Sorry to hear the news Jim, I feel your pain.

I had my van nicked 7 years ago fully loaded. I contacted the local paper and offered a £5,000 reward for the return of my CD collection and or information to to the theft / arrest.

The only items that were recovered was my personalized Flight cases which were dumped in Stevenage.

The van was recovered in Welwyn minus the gear. the police did get fingerprints but that was it for me.

I hope the police catch the people that did this

I suppose that is a saving grace with the police now, they have computerised all the fingerprint and DNA records so if they find anything and then arrest somebody even years from now it will immediately flag up their connection.

Is the van signwritten?

If not, then I doubt it was an opportunistic theft, but more a case of somebody knowing what you do for a living and the times that the van was (left) loaded. Can you recall anybody hanging around previously?.

Are you in the habit / routine of loading the van at a certain time?. Chances are that somebody has either been watching you load the vehicle several times previously and noted a pattern, or one of the locals on the estate has perhaps got some very dodgy friends and just happened to mention to them that they see you loading lots of expensive looking gear into it every Saturday.

I once had a vehicle broken into on my driveway, like you in broad daylight. Fortunately they only ripped the radio out of the dash and had it away with the tax disc. Its not pleasant at all, I reported it but the police weren't interested, they probably were only be interested in the fact that it now had no tax disc :ads: . One of those CCTV kits off Ebay now monitors my driveway and records 24/7, it may not stop the crime occuring but its a big detterant and goes a long way to seeing which scrote was responsible.

I'm really sorry to hear this.

I know I am the least security minded person on this forum. The other night I left my Estate Car with a lot of my gear in....unlocked??....AND with the electric windows DOWN on a public thoroghfare outside my house. It was an oversight.Nothing was taken.

My partner constantly critiscises me for it.Would never nick nothing of no-one and consider everybody else the same....OBVIOUSLY NOT!!

Don't get me wrong....I've had stuff nicked and know how painful it can be.I've always wanted one of them bins with a chimney on top for burning paper. I bought one six months ago......I was so proud. My neighbour said he saw some Romanies loading it onto their wagon for scrap.HEARTBROKEN ....you bet. This is the best bit.....It was still full of unburnt rubbish!! LOL

Sorry to hear about this Jim, I hope the insurance folk don't mess you about too much. No matter what precautions we take, none of us are completely safe from this of thing. It's sad that there are so many scumbags out there.

At my previous house I had CCTV 4 cameras recording 24/7 (on motion detect). It wasn't a very nice area and there were plenty of scum living in the street, in actual fact my next door neighbour was a prolific car theif and was sent to prison 2 weeks ago full story here. It was because of neighbours like that that we decided to move.

The house that we live in now is a new Bovis estate, it is still a building site (although all the building has stopped due to the recession). I only have 3 neighbours although there is an apartment block opposite with 14 residents. It is a no through road so we don't get passing traffic yet we do sometimes get people mouching on the site from time to time. No trouble though.

I don't think there is any pattern to when I load and unload my van though, and no it isn't sign written.

Usually I keep it parked on the car park behind the house, but if it is loaded I always put it on the front, I doubt anybody knows that it is loaded though as normally I load it just before setting off to the gig.

On saturday we had to go to Skipton to visit my mother in law so the van was loaded and ready to go for when we got back. Unfortunate for me somebody took it while we were out.

Although my neighbours didn't see anything, they narrowed the time down to a 15 minute window. Two of the neighbours new the van was there until at least 12:45 and one of their sons had been playing at the front since 1pm and he said it wasn't there while he was there!

I am still waiting for news from the police and both insurance companies.

Jim
