The 50th birthday party was at one of the easiest venues we’ve been to so far; we could back the van right up to the back door & only had to take 2 paces to where we were setting up.

The client had hired the back half of the rugby club, while at the bar end the rugby players had been drinking since their match was cancelled at 1pm. (Well-lubricated springs to mind) http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/huh.gif

The client was getting a little worried when they started singing the usual rugby songs, but I soon put their minds at rest by telling them we could soon drown out their singing.

As the volume increased their songs stopped & they started singing along with what ever we played, & as the evening progressed I saw a number of rugby players sent their taxis away to stay for the rest of the night.

It wasn’t long before we saw a group of rugby players the size of brick out-houses dancing to the cha-cha slide, and joining in with all the usual cheese. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/omg.gif

A good night was had by all and their party of 80 people ended up being a party for 140. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif

There was a little hiccup at 11pm when the bar staff asked us to pack up, the client wasn’t very happy but as soon as I explained it was the venue & not us they soon were having words with them, It would seem no one had told them there was an extension until midnight. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/oops.gif

Just as we started taking down the lighting the head steward & the client came running over asking us if we didn’t mind playing to midnight, we didn’t mind one bit because we were booked to midnight any way. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/laugh.gif

Lots of good comments at the end from both the clients guests & the rugby club, with a few players insisting we leave cards behind the bar & the bar staff asking for cards. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/cool.gif

Friday - Nothing

Saturday had to set up a gig for the evening, so did that at midday, then home to load the van for a kids party 3 till 5, arrived, set up and did it - good party (joint 8th and 10th for my new boss at work so a little worried!).

Then pack down, home, unpack unneeded bits and off to evening gig - Playlist consisted of Tony Christie and Bros so funny night..... Went well, B&G very happy.

Sunday - another kiddies gig for two boys with mainly boys there, from 2 till 5... Far too long for 7 year olds but still went well....

Good weekend.....

Friday - no trouble this week at the residency http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/rolleyes.gif

The warm-up DJ was really good (from when I arrived) playing classic trance, dance anthems, etc. but the 'tannoy' sound system he uses is head splitting!

Started at 9.30pm..finished at 01.30am. Excellent atmosphere. Good crowd, great night.

Saturday - 7.30pm to 11.30pm...joint 21st and 40th birthday bash. (Karaoke Disco)

No atmosphere at the beginning of the night (well maybe Russ Abbott) but the mood was generally lifeless and plodding.

Suddenly, at around 9pm (please no reference to trips to trumpton) the 'mood change' was flowing quicker than a mexican wave at a stadium concert.

I don't know what it was or how this immediate change happens to a dance floor / audience but the night from then on just got better and better!

Great requests and pretty good singers.

Saturday, wedding reception disco. Great night, very small group that had a real good time. Venue took cards and my client wants me for her daughters 18th.

Only drawback the resident dj let his stuff on the side of the dance floor which looked scruffy and left me with restricted space. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbdown.gif

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Cheezy!

ps well done to NRGIZE for winning the competition! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/beer.gif

Friday wedding went well, apart from a glich when the Bride asked for a ska track (ire feeling (skanga)), which went down like a lead balloon http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wallbash.gif I set up at midday to ensure we started on time.

Mostly wanted disco and reggae, floor fillers Amarillo, Nolans, Rick Astley and Wooly Bully (requested) and Don't Worry Be Happy, 3 little birds, Kingston Town and Buffalo Soldier in reggae sets.

1st dance Shania, followed by Stylistics "You Make Me Feel Brand New", was our suggestion and went really well.

Very happy B&G. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif

Just about recovered from Sunday.

After getting up at 5am, a time any sensible DJ is going to bed, http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/fear.gif setting up on the stage above the marathon route and playing from 8am to 3pm, with breaks for the band and jamming sessions together, we then all went on to The Rogue Trader for an indian meal and champagne. Estimate of money raised around £6000.

As I was up so early, I made sure everyone else was awake and started with Resurrection Shuffle! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/tongue.gif

Felt fine Sunday night, felt http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/pooh.gif monday morning.

Anyway here are a couple of pics.
