...'mazing how many will fit something when its offered free of charge http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif

Thankfully though, more and more installers are looking beyond names, and are looking more at product and features and less at a badge.

Its understandable though that established makes/models of single CD-deck get fitted year after year - as they often get installed as "riders" from visiting popular DJ's and then remain installed. The CDJ1000's in the picture have been available for 7 years now, with nothing more added to them 2 or 3 years ago when the MKII came out in terms of innovation - just a couple of cosmetic add-ons eg: A silver rim around the platter, the displays running at 10% brighter, a wider pitch range being offered, the digital out oversight being fixed, and the factory-fitted firmware being upgraded (4th or 5th time lucky) to improve disc reading, reducing the scratch delay problem etc.

True, theres a certain "Got used to it" factor, which Technics obviously benefited from from 14+ years before they introduced the ill-fated MKIII and then almost immediately (in R&D terms) the MKIV. But theres also a huge market for those that want their new something to do more than their old something - which was pretty much the original question posed by this thread.

Everybodies freeeee...

and not one company is better than the other !

Can we please now agree that there are a lot of good products out there and that some people prefer one product and others another.

OK, I can beat that!

Heres a DJ booth from a club you may have heard of

Yep we have all heard of the place...

But did you know that Ministry now own head kandi...

and the head kandi DJs all request Denon S5000s...

and in the next few months that DJ booth picture will change and there will be S5000s in there with the CDJs

and because hed kandi is now owned by ministry of sound they wont be able to demand anything and just fall into line and use pioneers or a computerised pre mixed evening .http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/tongue.gif

Ministry of sounds cd players will be bigger than fabrics , so there !

Come on guys lets leave play school level and be adults again. This thread went childish to the extreme.

There's only one way to settle this.....Fight!

But maybe a moderator could transfer these discussions to a new topic, just for fun? Pioneer vs Denon or something? Get it all out of our systems!

http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/grouphug.gif

I own both at home, Pioneer CDj's and Denon DNX1500 mixer, I'm happy with both, though the DNX1500 was faulty from new and this is the second one they sent! As far as I'm concerned regarding installed equipment, the fewer the features the better, that way you havent got to leave an owners manual in the DJ box for visiting DJ's. What you use for mobile, and what works for you best is your own informed choice!

When I started Djing, the bar had a basic Denon DN2000/II and I had to download the manual just to find out how to switch off Continuous Play!! (Im sure you know how to, everybody..maybe its just me!!)

, the guy took 5mins to get to features, etc.... tooo many buttons....

I'd agree with that and I'm an engineer!

And I'd already had my Pioneer's for around 5 years when I started, Denons flagship model at the time was the DN2300 and the old Pios knocked spots off them in every way! Dont forget that Pioneer started single turntable-style CDs and Denon copied them!

Well Fabric have Room 1: 2xpio CDJ1000

Room 2: 2xpio CDJ1000

Room 3: 2xpio CDJ800

Anyway here's to lively debate, thats a democracy!

As long as its a debate and not a stupid "mines better than yours discussion" This debate has been up before and i wont be taking part in it again as it caused bad blood.

The clubs here all have cdj100 cd players, i own my own and a point i would like to bring up is this, on these cd players i have all the effects i need, i mix a lot and use the cue function to drop in small samples of other records, the pitch control is sufficient etc so my question is this, WHY do i need even more features ? I have what i need and it sounds like a dj is playing , warts and all ! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/fear.gif If i need to sound like its a computer playing then i can buy a computer ! Do i really need a cd player that i will seldom manage to use all the effects ? The zip,wah and jet functions on the pioneer are useful and used often, but not at weddings, are the functions on the newer pioneers and denons something that i need at a mobile gig or even my club gigs ? I dont think so , Just a thought.

I feel a new, structured post, or series of posts would be of assistance; covering the features offered on modern up-to-date CD-decks, and in particular the ways in which those features can be of benefit to mobile, club and home DJ's.

Something along similar lines to how features are mentioned in the DJ United equipment reviews, but perhaps with even more DJ related situations for each.

I have seen a few posts on here from djs who dont know how to use the effects on their cd players so it sounds like a good constructive thing to do. And you know the denons so well so why not start it off ! I only just discovered i could get my pitch to - 16 last week !

Yes very domestic, like cdj is not really a pointer to who its designed for ,pitch control, master tempo, jet,wah etc all the things that all domestic cd players have http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/rolleyes.gif excuse my sarcasm but that statement doesnt sound quite right.

It's different in different countries though.

A local club up here in Stoke (who rely on a DJ shop for their supplies) started off with CDJ500's, they lasted about 6 years, then they had 3 consecutive pairs of CDJ100's, (they all lasted just over a year each pair, the last pair started digging holes in the CDs) and then finally settled on CDJ1000's which they've had a few years now without a problem.

The CDJ100's dont have anti-shock memory and these days club designers dont bother fitting concrete slabs for their CD players. They've been out ages now.

The CDJ100's are also based on Pioneer's in-car hifi oil-damped suspended mechanism and thats how they try to guard against bumps.

They're still pretty good though! Oh they dont play CDRW's or MP3. And they have an all-plastic case. (The professional series have plastic-clad steel).

As far as here is concerned, we have 4 clubs all with cdj100s used for the last 5 years a minimum of 3 nights a week and apart for the odd clean we havent had a problem. I personally have 4 and only problem i have had was a bit of a plastic sleeve that covered the laser. Use only original cds and definately not mp3 and dont mind plastic contra metal either.

Yeah, like I say they're still pretty good. I added the last comments because many Denons and Pioneers now play MP3 music files meaning you can fit lots more onto one CD...always a boon for a mobile guy with lots of tracks. And if you're doing a special, eg wedding, you may like to temporarily make a request list compilation onto CDRW to take with you, and then erase it when you get back, the CDJ100 wont play CDRW, only standard CDR....in case anyone reading this was considering buying a machine.
