Tommo55 0
Hello all me again! Have just been reading through another posting regarding the future for mobile disco's and one of the comments got me thinking :damn: It was said that he believes the influx of LED lighting is making everyone appear the same, so I would like to expand on that point, Linking rather loosley with my previous topic on what makes a good disco, I as I am sure many others would be interested to find out what makes up your current lighting rig, forget sound systems for now, what do you use to front the show and if we are all using the same LED lighting then what do you use as your USP (unique selling point) saw it on dragons den once! tongue out icon So for the sake of argument everyone is charging £100 for everygig they play are both free on the requested date etc, so why would Mr. customer book you instead of me? Over to you..............................
Dukesy 0
what do you use as your USP (unique selling point) My USP is me! tongue out icon So for the sake of argument everyone is charging £100 for everygig they play are both free on the requested date etc, so why would Mr. customer book you instead of me? That's a couple of questions!! I'm not equipment focused, but in the spirit of the question....I would like to think the customer would book me over another service because of my experience and the service I offer, which they consider value for money. Robster 0
Well i am one of those DJ /KJ's most of you guys seem to hate!! , i am chatty over the microphone and people seem to like my little jokes and comments (not always but mostly!) I don't think i am peter kaye etc... but i do like a laugh and joke...i don't do one liners i just go with the flow. I do a fun night every other Saturday which has a card game for a cash prize(this week its £100) a picture round for a spot prize of a £8 bottle of wine ..a bit of disco and a bit of karaoke ,it has only been running for three months and it has gone from 3-10 people in on a Saturday (when they had various artistes on ) to not being able to get a seat in the place. I think i am a bit of an entertainer from my customers feedback and that is my USP I vary my performance depending on the crowd and the type of night or occasion it is, i am not the same on my karaoke only nights as my fun nights or at say a birthday . I am flexible to my customers needs but if they want me to be cheesy game show host then club dj then quiz master then karaoke guy..im your man!..lol I do not really like doing the fun nights as much as my standard karaoke nights (they are a lot more work!!) but customers do seem to like what we are doing and that's really my gauge if what we are doing is good or not , coming up with something different each week at a residency is not easy . dh140770 0
To keep this on topic my lighting rig is as follows 2 x Martin EFX500 Effects 4 x Acme Dynamo Scanners 1 x Impossibled 2 x LED Par 64 Cans This is run off a Transcension JC-1 DMX controller to create the moods, slow dances, start of night, fast dancing etc. The Martin's are far and away the best lights I have, not because the cost the most, but because 2 of them can fill a decent sized room with light. I would like some better scanners but I can't justify the expense at the moment as I don't use them that much. The LED Pars were the bargain which I got off this board for about £50. I am considering getting a few more for backlighting etc. In addition to this I also have 2 x 20" LCD screens which I use to display messages to the crowd or run a slideshow of pictures. If I get chance I offer the customer the chance to send me pictures that can be displayed on screens. They seem to like this and there is always a crowd of people looking at the pictures at the beginning of the night. I don't charge extra for this, but it does set me aside from my competitors. In terms of a USP, i don't have one really. I play the music and let the crowd get on with enjoying it. I chat a bit if required but not too much. ---------------------------- Thanks ... Dream Catchers 0
My main lighting rig consists of :- 2x Datamoons 1x ImpossibLed 1x MarveLed 2x Tri Colour Lasers 1x Full Colour Laser (all lasers computer controlled for true graphics) 1x Strobe 1x PAR for back lighting 1x UV Tube 1x Homemade Star Cloth 1x Video Projector and 6' Screen. It's hard to say exactly what my USP actually is as our personality and service makes every one of us unique. A unique part of my show is the laser system, but other than at an 18th/21st I wouldn't class it as a selling point. I guess one of the benefits would be the video projector and also showing slideshows/videos from material the customer gives me. I don't think lighting can really be an USP as very few customers would be in the slightest bit interested. There are a couple of exceptions to this, namely Lee with his "Project Plasma" and soon to be include LED Dance Floor Sensation. Oh one other thing that would make me unique for £100, I would make them pay twice and then some more too :bouncy: Jim Edited July 29, 2008 by JimBoylan

Dream Catchers 0
What the heck is LED Dance Floor sensation ? I want one ! I bet you do, I think it is going to be 4m x 4m and cost in the region of £10k :dan+ju: I'm sure Lee will jump in with a link. Jim
Dukesy 0
This is interesting Here is a spec for the 42" version (pdf) The principle could probably be adapted to lighting rigs or even decks when you think about it! Looks like motorised flight casing is popular in the States and rising (excuse the pun) over here!
Dream Catchers 0
For nearly £3k I would want the plasma too. Jim
analyst 0
I agree with comment - lights will never be a USP. Only other DJs are interested in lights, nobody else gives a damn. So, ask yourself, do you build your lighting rig to please other DJs? One thing I use is a data projector which synchs to the music, running AVs, and it can obviously project pictures/images/video or written messages etc around the room. Though I don't consider this a USP, its just something I use.
