  1. I started doing parties at 15 & these days I'm a year younger than Kingy at 42. Age is irrelevant, experience impresses the young & the old!
  2. Found this at http://www.djkit.co.uk/digital.php Does this mean as Laptop DJ's we're sorted??? ===================== Digital DJ Licence FAQ The following frequently asked questions have been officially answered by PPL Who is PPL? Record companies have various rights in their sound recordings. Some of these rights are transferred to Phonographic Performance Limited (“PPL”), enabling members of the public to obtain licences from one source rather than having to contact all the different record companies. PPL’s rights include the right to perform a sound recordin
  3. I use OtsTurntables Pro, does anyone know if that can be upgraded to OtsDJ? Save me emailing them & looking dumb if it doesn't. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/whistling.gif
  4. Very interesting reading Guyz & Galz, thanks for the opinions & thoughts on this matter. So..... If you were me, would you go to the expense of buying a new set of cd players or just keep on using the laptop & keep the cd's safe at home? Ta!
  5. After many years of DJ-ing with my trusty Cloud decks & toting half a ton of vynal around (700 singles & 300 albums), I was more than happy to start the expensive transition from vynal format to cd format because the new cd's were more user-friendly from a DJ's perspective (not to mention nearly half a ton lighter). I was 21 & The year was 1985...... Now, 21 years later, I find myself in a very similar situation. All my cd's seem just as heavy now, & just as user-unfriendly, as all my vynal did back then. That is, when you compare the cd format to the latest weapon in the
  6. Just wanted to say many thanks for doing the clearest & most concise version of factual copyright laws I have ever had the pleasure to read. I wouldn't mind paying £500 to be 100% legal (I have 100s of original cd's from which I've ripped songs I can use at gigs using my laptop so for me it would be worth it). I also use a fully licenced version of OTS to play my files with & thought because my music was ripped from my own cd's & played on fully licenced software I was 100% legal... we live & learn eh? One day soon, man will catch up with the technology he created (hopefull
  7. The type of competitions I would do are a Limbo Comp for the girls (they love to show off how supple they are & are generally more competitive than the lads), another one for the girls is the 10p & a pint glass comp. Put an empty pint glass in the middle of the floor & place said volunteer at the side of the floor, they then have to hold the 10p between their ass cheeks & drop the 10p in the glass by relaxing their ass cheeks when they think they're on target. Anything you can think of usually does for the boys & the winner of the boys compo gets to sniff the 10p the girl
  8. Would love to help & pick up a few pointers (I did a gig on Sunday for a room full of 10 year olds), unfortunately I live in Belfast so I wouldn't be able to make it in time http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/yucky.gif If you haven't done it before it can be hard knowing how to keep kids occupied for 3 hours knowing how short the attention span of an average 10 year old is.
  9. Party Atmosphere because that's what I provide (rather than a straight disco), still wondering if I should bother using Russ Abbot's "Atmosphere" as a theme tune...

I'll bring the "Party Dances" Album, then they can all do the Birdie Song, The Music Man, The Lambada & The Time Warp. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/flirt.gif
  11. Hi & welcome, I love the 50s rock 'n' roll myself, is it mainstream r 'n' r you're into or do you diversify into rockabilly as well?
  12. Hi & welcome Speedy, I'm a 70s lover myself (love the 80s too), music was sooo much better then. The 80s are being requested a lot lately & the somgs are also being covered a lot by todays artists, seems that every week another couple of the good ole classics are being re-released or re-covered.
  13. Hi & welcome to the den... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/fear.gif
  14. Hi & welcome to "The Den" (of iniquity...) http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif
  15. Hi, I can only endorse what has already been said. I use 4 250w effects (2 Facinations & 2 Datamoons) & these have been adequate even for the larger gigs I do, just make sure your lights are concentrated on the dancefloor or ceiling & that way they won't annoy people who are seated.
