  1. Hi Jim, I don't think they changed the licence just because of me. I know a number of people that had the same thoughts and feelings as me on this clause. FYI Clause 4.3 stated "You shall notify MCPS as soon as reasonably possible of any infringementof any of MCPS's rights or PPL's rights and or other illegal activities concerning MCPS's or PPL's rights which come to your attention." Just here to give info if I can Jim Vinnie
  2. OK guys and girls, It's there and open to debate. One very up to date piece of news is that clause 4.3 (the ProDob clause) has been withdrawn following conversations that I have been having with MCPS. Not sure how everyone else felt about this one but it was much more af a problem for me than the price issue. Hope it helps. And once again, if you're going to compare this Licence with the Digital DJ Licence please compare the whole thing not just one or two points you might like and then remember it was only half the answer in that it did not cover MCPS licence rights.
  3. Reef - Place your hands!! Vinnie PS - great atmosphere in them vids Paul
  4. Hi guys and girls, MCPS / PPL have issued a press release and have stated that if questions are not answered in their FAQ's or you can't wait until 1st July, you can email questions to info@produb.co.uk where they will try to answer questions during working hours (9-5) I guess. Cheers, Vinnie
  5. And this is why I have introduced the A4 "Don't Dares" list - for some reason having it on a list doesn't p:cense:s people off. Also on occassion there is a sensitive issue (song played at recent funeral) why they might not want a particular song or artist played. For me this devise and tactic is a great selling point. That said, like most of us I would guide away from the human jukebox type gig request, but as a business I would take the gig and the money. Vinnie
  6. I won't be putting my prices up because of this licence, broken down it's not gonna impact too much, much less than fuel increases for example. I am however looking to maximise on add-on sales - early set ups ambient lighting additional PA for speeches any othe suggestions??? Vinnie
  7. I've voted wait and see. Untill I see the completed item T's C's and all. I shall reserve my judgement. Vinnie PS can we do a simular poll after July 1 (providing the site is fully live and functional)
  8. Just a thought, A very useful device I have used over the years is an A4 display stand with the clients don't dare list on it ie Andy and Rebecca's Don't Dares The Birdie Song Agadoo Any Daniel Bedingfield Hip Hop etc etc Having this near the DJ booth it is much easier and less confrontational than saying The Bride and Groom do not want me to play it. I has worked wonderfully for me. I just wonder if you could adapt this idea to your gig - have a couple of notices either side of your set up stating the clients instructions. Somehow a notice (even one yo
  9. With you on this one Nik, however if you think I may be able to answer a question or bring any clarity (doubtful I know) I'll do my best. Believe it or not, I do want what's best for all of us. Vinnie
  10. Point taken Dan If it's ok, I'll stick around to try to answer any questions I can or help clarify. Good luck with the steps forward with DJ@ Vinnie
  11. I too feel that what Dan is proposing is positive and important and that DJ@ and the other associations are not mutually exclusive. That said an association is primarily responsible to look after the interests of it's own membership. That said we hope that SEDA can and does help non members. I wish Dan every success and look forward to the details. Vinnie.
  12. Hi Nik, I really do not think you are dumb, I did not call you dumb, but I do think the question you keep asking is dumb. I believe it does you and the debate no credit to ignor past facts and not get a grasp on the basics. This is a licence to use digital media. No this is a licence to copy music. Many people starting up or charging less or doing less DJ work do pay less for there kit they use the cheaper brands and that makes sence for them to do that... If your out 5 nights a week would you expect a set of skytec speakers to last long compared to a set of Mackie one
  13. Far point but hasn`t the track been purchased in the first place? When I breed my Jack Russell (which I bought) I won`t need to pay again to sell the puppies. Same senario..... Not quite the same scenario. when you bought your Jack Russell you owned it and I'm guessing there were no restrictions of use in the purchase of the dog. When you buy your CD you buy a piece of physical plastic and the right to personally listen to the music contained on it. On that CD you will notice a copyright statement. Also to clear up an earlier statement you made the Pro Dub licence covers th
  14. Wouldn`t it be easier to add an extra 50pence to a cd album or even put an additional 10p on a download from i tunes? C'mon, who's gonna support this one when everyone is up in arms about paying 2-5p to copy a track? Or they can`t police the illegal downloaders (hence the music industry losing revenue) so the DJ is having to pay the price..... If the DJ has to pay for this licence then surley the kids will also have to put their hands in their pockets to use their ipod Unfortunately (or fortunately if you're a kid with an ipod) not - the kid is not using the ipod in a business.
  15. I dont see though why a part time DJ should be charged on his whole income what has that to do with MCPS... We should be charged on our copyright using activerty of DJing etc not for how many hours we work as a mechanic etc. So maybe we should pay more for CD's, downloads, our equipment? There is no logic or reason to your argument. The charge (whatever it is) is for the act of dubbing/copying music - not how much you play that dub /copy. I can not believe that you guys went into meetings with out some kind of legal representation. Let's remember that you include the Chairman
  16. Absolutely agree Paul. I would say something like, "If the track listing or play order just isn't working and I feel it would be best to introduce a couple of floorfillers or re-jig the play order, do you want me to use my discretion to make the night work, or do you want me to religously stick with your instructions no matter what or wait for you to tell me to abandon them if needed" Covers your back also, Good luck with this one, look forward to hearing how it goes. Vinnie
  17. Hi Nik, Let's try to answer a few of your questions. I would like to know what has changed your mind in the last 2 years 7 months 14 days 9 hours 18 minutes. Read my post, examine the difference between the two licences. You seemed very much against the idea of a DJ licence as it was a device to shaft the DJ and we would not be getting anything in return... I am sure yu have put a lot of time and effort into the LWP, but what has changed. A realisation that mcps/prs and ppl have a right and duty to collect copyright payments for the writers of the music and lyrics wit
  18. Paul's thoughts and feelings back then towards the "back door legislation" and its "frightening advance" can be read here. I need to go back and read this - lol. Without reading it, the PPL digital DJ Licence was an ill concieved, barely researched, unbelievably restrictive piece of nonsence. One of the key arguments against it was the restriction of practice. I'm not sure that this argument stands up against the Pro Dub Licence. I am now holding final judgement until I see the details of the licence. Although price was / is a major consideration, the main consideration
  19. Hi again, Put it to them but the guy I was speaking to was more marketing based so not the best person for the job. Full details of the licence will go live on Tuesday on the MCPS site. More news as it comes in. Vinnie PS - Hi Dan, Paul and anyone else that remembers me.
  20. Cracking idea Steve - I'll ask them but not sure if they'll take the suggestion up. Just by way of courtesy and introduction, my (real) name is Paul, I have followed this topic very closely for a number of years, I am both Vice Chairman of SEDA and their representative on the LWP. If I can answer any questions I'll try, but I have no more information than has been given already. Also, like Gary and others, I do not represent mcps/prs or ppl. Cheers!
  21. Hi everyone, :djuhi: Once again I have some odd gig requirements, and before setting off on a cyber-hike to find the hidden treasures I thought it might be better to come to the font of all knowledge and ask for some help. I need a Wheel of fortune sound effect ( not theme - but for the spinning of the wheel) + a or some Harley Davidson sound recordings (must be Harley as it is for a Owners Club) HELP!!!!! - Please Thanks  Vinnie
  22. I Have faced this issue on two occasions. The first was a wedding and one of the bridesmaids was highly sensitive. I opted to use more ambient effects - water ripple effect, colour changers only. at the second gig one of the grans was epilectic, so I used the above effects + wildtech kalidos (no flashing) until she had enough and went to bed and then switched to other lighting (gobo projectors etc). I think the answer is - if in doubt err on the safe side. - Another tip is to sit the person affected in a well lit area (if one is available). Vinnie
  23. Agree - don't do it. These guys work independantly of the hotel. The hotels are under no obligation to pass work to you. I speak from bitter experience. I even arranged to meet with hotel staff and management to see how we could work together, they seemed to have no idea how I could help them and that their customers would always go for the cheapest option (not what the guy selling the advertising told me, strangely enough). What more can I say to disuade you?????????? :protest: Vinnie
