Paul Smith 0
Tony has been a member here for some time so it's time we found out a bit more about him............. 1. What is your DJU Forum Alias? Tonsk 2. What is your Real Name, Age, Location & Marital Status? Tony Waterfield, 31, Norwich, Due to be married and have one son (Kyle - 7 months) 3. What is the Name of your Disco? therightmusic.co.uk (was www.mobilediscos.ws but was too difficult to explain to people (all one word plural with an S... Yes it is JUST .WS nothing else.... Yes I know that is a strange one.. Telephone calls were very difficult!!)) 4. How long have you been a DJ? 11 years 5. What inspired you to become a DJ I had always loved music and had quite a large collection of tracks, but started working in Ibiza in 1994 as a glass collector. The bar's current DJ had to go back to the UK so became the barman and then one night swapped over and the boss said I was a much better DJ and the acting DJ was a much better barman. And it snowballed from there (spent 5 years in the same bar!) 6. Are you a member of a DJ Association / Union? Yes, the Musicians Union 7. What is your favourite type of function now? (eg: Wedding, 18th Birthday party, etc) Weddings - or childrens parties 8. What’s the worst/most embarrassing thing you've done in front of an audience? Too many to list, but some right corkers were: Called the groom "Phil Mitchell" instead of Paul Mitchell - and at a recent wedding, when only given a few seconds between anouncements, played "Love The One You're With" as background music - Luckily noone noticed, but I did.... 9. If you could go back to the beginning of your DJ career is there anything that you'd do differently? (eg: The gear that you bought, the way you promoted/advertised yourself) Again would be the gear I bought would be better, I would've also started with contracts and with a realistic price that allowed me to earn money. 10. What do you feel you offer the public that convinces them to book you rather than "the next guy/girl"? Like a lot of people on this forum (but luckily noone around here, cept Mo and Hayden) professionalism, reliability, a massive music collection with the ability to switch styles, plus personal treatment of meeting up and going through what is required.. Plus an online diary so people can see that they ARE booked, so peace of mind I WILL turn up... 11. Have you ever bought something for your show that you wish you hadn't? and why? Lots and lots... Light stands that I have never used and are still in the garage. Radio mikes from ebay for 30 quid I was gonna use for Kiddies Karaoke, but are so rubbish its impossible, three galactic moons which are pants - The list is endless! 12. What's your next DJ purchase likely to be? Star cloth or Show Director lighting system 13. If you could get someone to invent a new piece of disco equipment for your show, what would it be? Powered speakers, like SM450's that were only 10kilos, 500watts and only 200 quid a pair, but only to professional DJs..... 14. What was the worst equipment failure suffered during a gig? CDs.. I had flown home from Ibiza to attend my best friends wedding. He lived in London so went down...... Set everything up..... And realised I had left the CDs at home.. D'oh!!! Had been a tiring flight! Equally, when I had first start had both speakers blown when I went to set them up and had to run back and pick up my hi-fi speakers and amp and use them (luckily was a small venue!) Hence I now take backup EVERYTHING.. 15. What do you think is the best thing about DJ'ing? The Thanks Yous.... Knowing that you made a difference to someone and they will always remember you, even if only a little. 16. What do you think is the worst thing about DJ'ing? Packing up... 17. What would make you stop DJ'ing (if anything)? Family and Money... 18. How do you think DJ'ing will change, in the next 5 years? I think it will be more electronic... It will also be more cheaper, with the amount of new gadgets coming out so I think it will become even more competitive with cheapie people out there.. 19. Most stupid thing anyone's ever said to you at a gig? Whilst in Spain, talking on the mike asking for requests, person: Do You Speak English... Plus the have you got that song, you know the one... By that guy off the tele, has the moving thing in the video.. Goes dum, dum, dee dee dum... 20. Best advice you were ever given by a fellow DJ? If you ever make a mistake, carry on as only you will know you did. 21. And worst advice you were ever given? Play this song - It's guaranteed to keep them on the floor..... 22. How do you keep up to date with music? (eg Promo monthly CDs, Downloads, Purchase from retailer) Promo CDs and Purchases from retailers.. 23. Name 3 songs that 95% of the time will fill the dance floor for you! Mavericks - Dance The Night Away You Can't Hurry Love - Phil Collins I'm Your Man - Wham! 24. Mode of transportation. Estate Car, sometimes Van. 25. What is the furthest that you've travelled from home for a single gig? London and back (240miles) 26. Approximately how many gigs have you done to date? Thousands - In 5 years in Ibiza did one every night for 6 months at a time.. 27. What is the largest/smallest audience numbers you've played to? Largest = 9000 (got to play 3 tracks at Amnesia's closing party in 1995) smallest = 23..... 28. What is your main (most successful) form of advertising your disco? Being resident at venues... 29. Have you ever had someone try to claim off you? (eg: Public Liability Insurance or other such legal action) No, thankfully 30. Add any additional comments which you would like to include here... No comments, just thanks for reading... If, after reading that, you are thinking 'I would like to be included for a DJU interview' then fear not - simply send me a PM and all will be taken care of http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/smile.gif
