  1. I think the vinyl paint is called 'Plasticote' it's also good on car bumpers and the like, very hard wearing. You could even do them a different colour!
  2. I think HiSys2s weigh about 28kg from memory, the stand holes in the bottom are 35mm diameter. I used to run mine (which were the 4 ohm version) from a Peavey PV1500 amp which gave 500W RMS into 4 ohms and drove them nicely. If yours are the 8 ohm ones then the PV2600 may be a better choice. The switch on the back alters the 'voicing' I didn't have that on mine as they were the original 'mk1' version but I think it just cuts the HF (treble) down a tad.
  3. Time for an update! I contacted Prolight and they sell the correct LED's at £1.00 +VAT each, a little expensive I guess but at least they are the right ones. They arrived today so I have changed the faulty ones on my Visios and the new ones are identical to the originals. The Miracleds use the exact same 5mm LEDs and I will be turning my attention to those tomorrow. Next time I do a CPC order, I will get some of those CREE LEDs and do a comparison with the Prolight ones, it's easy to measure the voltage drop and current draw when used with the correct series resistor. I'll let you know th
  4. Agreed, but if you have a pair you can 'square' the pattern up if you see what I mean!
  5. A few I have found that have worked for me over the years : Janet Kaye - Silly Games Clint Eastwood & General Saint - Stop that train Shabba Ranks - Mr Lover Man Gregory Issacs - Night Nurse Not sure that Salt n Pepa in your list is Reggae though!
  6. I am pleased with the effect from my Miracleds, they are wide but not nearly as tall compared with the Impossibled etc. They certainly work well as a pair linked together as master/slave, and the ubiquitous CA-8 controller works with them too.
  7. I'm sure I'm not alone in having a couple of fixtures which have failed blue LED's in them One of my Miracled's has 3 out and now one of my Acme Visio PAR56's has 6 out. I took the Visio PAR apart and it's obvious that there are 6 LED's in series in each chain, which is fed via a resistor from a 24V supply. Shorting each one out in turn in the chain that is off with a low value resistor reveals the LED that has failed, so no problem there. But what do I replace it with? They are 5mm clear LED's and I was going to try CPC part code SC08230 or SC08232 (15 or 30 degree angle respectively, no
  8. Technics everytime, still the industry standard and will always hold their value, spares shouldn't be a problem in the future either I wouldn't be to sure about the others in that regard.
  9. Ahh yes I remember those, I had the Hawaii which was identical apart from lacking the built in amps. I had Ortofon OM Pro cartridges in mine, but Stanton 500AL's would have been original fit I guess and perfectly satisfactory. Nice piece of kit that will still be working in another 20 years I'll wager.
  10. The other popular effect stuffed full of PAR36's was the Harvester, a rectangular box with perhaps 6 PAR's on each face, another motorised (and rather heavy) classic! I used to work at a venue like the one you describe with the speakers in the ceiling, it was good from a point of view of the sound being 'where you wanted it' and quieter at the bar, but it did sound a bit odd on the floor though.
  11. It's time to move on my trusty Pulsar PAR56 300W cans and the Ryger DX403PRO controller that I use with them. The 8 cans are the very sturdy spun aluminium Pulsar type with the mesh front hinge down gel holders and double insulated ParSafe lampholders, they are mounted 4 each on 2 Powerdrive 4ft Tee Bars with 32mm powerdrive castings in the middle, very neatly wired to a diecast box above the casting with a Bulgin 8 pin socket. The lamps were new about a year ago and I will include a couple of spares. They are all fitted with good quality Lee filter gels as well and a few extra colours will be
  12. To make some shelves to go on my 4ft Ultimax stand I had to buy an 8ft x 4ft sheet of 9mm ply to do the job, I still have loads left! I got the sawmill to cut them to size, and have four pieces left over. They are made from 9mm ply which is reasonably light, but very strong, what I also did on mine was to screw 1inch battens onto them to brace them further and stop the shelves sliding off the frame, then gave them a few coats of dark varnish, the end result comes up very well indeed. If anyone fancies making something similar themselves, I am selling the plywood leftovers for £5 a shelf w
  13. Thanks for that and the link to JHS, it is the standard grey stuff, all sorted now cheers for your help!
  14. Currently re-equipping for a New Year relaunch, I have just bought an HK LUCAS 1000 active sytem which sounds absolutely great. Its a few years old and has accumulated a few scratches over the years. Anyone got a heads up of a suitable paint to touch up these scratches with? It's a bluey grey colour, there are places on ebay selling black or grey touch up paint but want to make sure I get the right stuff. Thanks!
  15. I've always found Powerdrive stands to be pretty indestructible, and if the worst happens you can get all the spares from them. Ultimax also do them, I haven't used their tripods but if the quality of their deckstands is anything to go by I expect they're pretty good.
