  1. Funny, I am in the same situation as Supradave. I'd like to play a few up to date songs each gig but they end up being "floorkillers" instead of "floorfillers". I now play the current stuff to give the audience a break from dancing. How times have changed. John
  2. First, welcome Dave :welcome: :welcome: I'd be interested to hear Tonsk views too. I've played a few functions in the UK (all with mainly Irish crowds). The big difference I found was the early starts/finishes. Two dinner dances I was playing by 8.30-9pm and were over at 11-11.30pm (In the west of Ireland the start times for dancing would be 11-12 while 3-4 am would be typical finish times). Again at weddings the bands were playing by 7.30/8pm with me taking over about 10 and finished 11.30/12. Just my experiences, John First, welcome Dave :welcome: :welc
  3. If you like Waynes tri-led idea but want something a bit cheaper you could stay in the American DJ family with two options, American DJ tri-phase led or Vertigo There are a number of variations on the above and there is are ACME and Equinox versions of both for a few bob less. What the above will give you is a sets of dots moving, instead of just on/off, and changing color through Red, Green and Blue (again the video will tell a thousand words). John
  4. Teez, Two REVO IIIs is a lot of dots covering a lot of area. I think a cluster laser would be lost and the animation lasers, maybe? In your case I'd go with Mintydave suggests or, 1. Be it colorstrips or parcans look at something that will do color wash, 2. Saw a band using one of the old Aqua/Water effects a few weeks back, it's just an idea. 3. A couple of movingheads, Good luck, John
  5. If you don't have the space for the Mummy "Race" you can go with the bit where the contestants "Mummy" somebody and just give the prize to which one gets the "loudest cheer" for the best Mummy. The above idea can also be adapted at Christmas to a Christmas Tree using old decorations. (I know most of you already know/do the above but if it helps even one.......) John
  6. Not sure if this is on offer in the UK stores but in Aldi's Irish stores this week, CD Cases Haven't seen them myself but may be worth checking for those of you using CDs on the road. John

    Revo 4

No idea when it's due in Europe, but for those who like led dots heres one to look forward to, REVO 4 If you search youtube you'll find a demo vid. John
  8. Looking at the unit itself will it be a real pain to box/case for transport? John
  9. Paul, With regard to setting up. I do it if practical. I just like to have it all in, checked and tidy. I just think it's more professional and although I can't get more money for doing it, I use it as a selling point. The advantage of the way you do it is you exactly when the band wants you back to start Not all hotels have the space to do it. Limerick has a number of venues where the entertainment has to set-up where the top-table is located, Castleoaks, Woodlands, Dunraven (depending on the numbers) & Rathkeale House spring to mind. Glad your gig went well. For those outs
  10. Wasn't sure of the best place for this. Please move if needed, Added a page to my website with equipment shots just for my fellow DJs to view. What you'll see featured (aside from untidy cables) are, P.A. Dynacord powermax 3 EV Sb2a & ZX1 Lights, Broken Swing, Martin Acrobat ADJ Mega Panels ADJ REVOIII ACME ?led (adj tri-phase copy, 1Wx3 leds instead of 3W x3) Some assorted led pars. Some of these go back a few years, (You should note that almost every gig I play has a band/singer on first. My gear is set-up to allow them space to work also)
  11. Looking for wisdom from your experiences. I like to keep a selection of lighting. I tend to use different effects from night to night depending on the age of the crowd and the lay-out of the venue. I am thinking of adding two more variations to the mix. Both happen to be made by Equinox which is part of the Prolight group from what I can see. One is a cluster laser a "Sigma" the other is another led dots on/off called a carbon. I have only seen their products on-line (where I am based in the west of Ireland it's just easier to buy on-line). Yes the pics and vids (and prices) loo
  12. Steve, Would a powered mixer to drive your current tops be an alternitive? If not, given you seem to change sound systems a lot over the years, buy somthing high now instead of having to upgrade later. There are a lot of good 10's out there now and a long as your realistic in what you expect from them they could be useful tools. The RCF 310s have been talked about here before, FBT get good online reviews, JBL Eon G2 10s but if it's possible get a listen to the new QSC "K" series 10. If you search the US sound/dj boards the reviews are all excellent. The specs are good and if t
  13. Couple things on this/these units, You'll find the same basic design with, 1. Different stickers on the units, ACME, KAM, Eurolite...etc but the same units. 2. They were design to light small areas like stages, not for long throw. I think they might be a good addition for those doing Karaoke and want to brighten the performance area. John
