Paul Smith 0
Onwards we go with this latest round of DJU Interviews - It's Karen (who likes to be called Kaz) http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/smile.gif 1. What is your DJU Forum Alias? KrazyKaz 2. What is your Real Name, Age, Location & Marital Status? Karen Wright, 41, March, Cambridgeshire, married with 2 daughters 3. What is the Name of your Disco? K K Disco 4. How long have you been a DJ? Only a couple of years. 5. What inspired you to become a DJ I helped my mate do her daughters birthday party using a hi-fi and my Kef Cadenza speakers and some Now CD's. Had such a good time, I thought I'd get some proper gear and give it a go. I have always loved music. 6. Are you a member of a DJ Association / Union? No 7. What is your favourite type of function now? (eg: Wedding, 18th Birthday party, etc) Kids parties - I love 'em http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif 8. What’s the worst/most embarrassing thing you've done in front of an audience? At an 18th, was saying something over the mic, and my mind went blank, completely forgot what I was saying 9. If you could go back to the beginning of your DJ career is there anything that you'd do differently? (eg: The gear that you bought, the way you promoted/advertised yourself) Don't think so. 10. What do you feel you offer the public that convinces them to book you rather than "the next guy/girl"? For kids parties, all the client needs to provide is the venue, food, and party bags, I do the rest!! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif 11. Have you ever bought something for your show that you wish you hadn't? and why? Fuzz light, seemed to be a bit pointless 12. What's your next DJ purchase likely to be? Undecided 13. If you could get someone to invent a new piece of disco equipment for your show, what would it be? 14. What was the worst equipment failure suffered during a gig? My scrolling message board wouldn't work (don't have one now) 15. What do you think is the best thing about DJ'ing? Seeing people having a good time. 16. What do you think is the worst thing about DJ'ing? Packing Up and Unloading the gear especially when exhausted!! 17. What would make you stop DJ'ing (if anything)? My health (not 100% at the moment) 18. How do you think DJ'ing will change, in the next 5 years? Laptops/PC will be the way to DJ 19. Most stupid thing anyone's ever said to you at a gig? Kid comes up to me as I'm loading a CD and says "hey, where's the DJ?" 20. Best advice you were ever given by a fellow DJ? Be confident 21. And worst advice you were ever given? Can't say that I've been given any. 22. How do you keep up to date with music? (eg Promo monthly CDs, Downloads, Purchase from retailer) Watching music channels, and then when tune comes out I buy it. Tend to buy compilations. 23. Name 3 songs that 95% of the time will fill the dance floor for you! Cha Cha Slide, Oops Upside Your Head, Reach 24. Mode of transportation. My mate with her 7 seater 25. What is the furthest that you've travelled from home for a single gig? Um... 10 miles 26. Approximately how many gigs have you done to date? Less than 20 http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/laugh.gif 27. What is the largest/smallest audience numbers you've played to? Least 10, Most 70 28. What is your main (most successful) form of advertising your disco? Word of mouth/recommendation and my eldest daughter who seems to be my PA http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/rolleyes.gif 29. Have you ever had someone try to claim off you? (eg: Public Liability Insurance or other such legal action) No 30. Add any additional comments which you would like to include here... This forum is great!!

Andy Westcott 0
Go Girl!! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif I didn't realise you were so (comparatively speaking) new to the profession - I wouldn't have guessed, as you seem to have got the hang of things pretty well. At the risk of sounding patronising or of committing some other unmentionable crime, I'm really pleased to see a female jock out there. I feel we are sadly short of such people, and would personally hire a lady jock over a male one if I needed to, simply because I perceive them as being less ego-driven than some blokes out there. There's a serious risk that I might be adding my daughter to the DJ fray in a few years, she's done a couple of freebie kids' discos, and loves it! Well done, keep it up! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/042.gif
