I use OtsDJ and it is perfect for me but there are lots of options just download the trial versions and have a play see what suits you the most.... Ots do not officially support OtsDJ on Vista as yet but you can make it work if you follow theses instructions lovingly borrowed from "another place": We will be supporting Vista natively in future, however if you want to try OtsDJ under Vista, the following installation method is required. 1. Locate the OtsDJ installation file in your Downloads folder. 2. Right-click on this file, and select Properties. 3. Click on the Compatibility tab. 4. Check the Run this program in compatibility mode for: box. 5. Choose Windows XP (Service Pack 2) from the drop-down box. 6. Click OK to save the changes. 7. Run the OtsDJ installation file.(you may receive an error near the end of the installation. Close the error window, then run OtsDJ as per normal, using the Desktop icon) 8. Right-click on the OtsDJ icon on your Desktop, and select Properties. 9. Choose the option to Run As An Administrator. 10. Close the Properties window. 11. Run OtsDJ. 12. License OtsDJ in the normal manner. (not required for the OtsDJ 30 Day Demo) 13. Once OtsDJ starts, select the WDM driver for your soundcard when prompted. Current tests show OtsDJ working at a satisfactory state under Vista 32-bit versions, using XP Service Pack 2 Compatibility mode. Unfortunately, the add-on Video and Karaoke CD+G modules for OtsDJ Pro 1.75 are not yet compatible with Vista. This is based on our own computer configurations. You may have different results. Depending on the stability of your soundcard drivers, OtsDJ will probably work fine on first install. Be aware however, that there are still a fair amount of hardware drivers in Beta form when using Vista. As with software developers, some hardware manufacturers are still "catching up" with their drivers. The information above is a guide only. Ots Labs do not officially support Windows Vista. pilgrimpete 0 Posted May 27, 2007 Author Report Share Posted May 27, 2007 i have looked at otsdj was able to load it on my laptop, really like this software I have got a mixer that uses usb connection I tried out my laptop before I did a disco on saturday night and I got some crackling/interference in the speakers when I had the laptop connected to the mains power and when I disconnected from the mains it went I did hear that sometimes you need at ground loup between laptop and mixer If I have already upload some music already what is the best program to use to tagg the files with the song title and artist many thanks Pete Link to post Share on other sites

Followed all the steps as told by OTS and guess what...all tracks skip, as does the intro. However, if you try them in ots studio, they work perfectly. Now it was only a brief scan but based on the screenshot it did not look that hi spec. As I said in an earlier post I've used Traktor for over three years and it really does rock. Leaving the video functions out, based SOLELY as a dj tool for storing, editing, mixing and playing tracks can somebody give me say, three USP's (unique selling points http://planetsmilies.net/happy-smiley-541.gif) why I should ditch Trator and change to otsdj. I've an open mind and if there was a better system available then I wouldn't hesitate to get my hard earned English out! Cheers guys. However if you just do mobile for the type of parties & weddings I do, then Ots is the b*****ks. Easy to use, excellent automatic fade ins & outs etc. I've used it for just over a year and its been fantastic to work with. Gary 0 Posted May 30, 2007 Report Share Posted May 30, 2007 Whilst it's the responsibility of the DJ applications own software houses (in most cases) to ensure as far as possible that their software is Vista compatible, they have no jurisdiction of making sure that the hundreds of different soundcards out there, have suitable drivers written for them, to meld the DJing software to the sound card. It might be worth considering the question: Which tried and tested Operating system and sound card should I buy, which is already known to work with the DJ software which I'd like to use. Unless you run it in W2K or XPsp2 mode there are many issues and incompatibilities. BPM certainly falls down with 64 bit and dual channel processing without "fixes" . Gary 0 Posted September 12, 2007 Report Share Posted September 12, 2007 The other snag here is that Vistas "xp compatible mode" doesn't behave 100% as a real install of XP would do. Some users have had programs and drivers which worked fine for them on real XP, but have strange things happen on the same programs, drivers etc when running them in Vistas so-called compatibility mode. If you're liking OTS (or any other software in particular, for that matter), consider downgrading the operating system on the chosen laptop to XP and...if/when it works "perfectly" at gigs, then never, ever, change anything on the laptop - not the operating system, the service pack, the software application, or any of its upgrade offers, the sound card, the sound card drivers...nuttun' Link to post Share on other sites

Got MS office on there, photo programs to edit customers photos from cameras and phones, bluetooth software to accept pics from customers etc...never had any issues. Link to post Share on other sites

Can you only search by song or artist? I have all my 6000 tunes sorted into 'keys' so I can have a tune playing and search for another in the same key, plus also a bpm search. I accept it is VERY early days but looking at it I don't want to waste time on it if my fears are confirmed. I agree, I rarely use the effects and bits and pieces. However, as you can imagine, I search all the time and with Traktor the search facility is top notch. Title, artist, genre, bpm, label and much more. So the search facility is one of the key features I need from a software package. Artist Song title Genre File details Album name Label Comment 1, which is anything you want to put in, I for instance put #1 1987, #1 2004 etc. Comment 2, as above in here I put what film it may have been in. Mixer of the track Mix. i.e. Freemasons or whatever Producer Bpm, hit the search button and I get every track in my collection within 2.5 bpm's. Plus for the most important the key the song is in so if I've a track playing in A MINOR, I can get similar tracks, great for mixes. So unless Serato has something fantastically better plus all the above then I'm a Traktor boy.
