vokf 0
Playing my local pub this Saturday. This will be a strange one... I'm doing Karaoke! The landlord asked if I can do Karaoke for an engagement party in the pub end Oct. One of my local friends is a Karaoke nut. He has the originals on CD, and also ripped to his HDD, so I'm paying him roadies fee to help out on the night, using his Karaoke music, and my PA/Lighting etc. If both gigs are a success, I will consider investing in music if the landlord is able to commit to increased Friday-Night bookings next year (I rarely take Friday Night private Parties due to work, but Pub gigs are ok) Karaoke normally goes down very well in the pub. So.... My Song will be Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll :-) I'm sure Bernie (my mate) will sing something offball- but are looking forward to an interesting night! Carmen is away, so party back to our place after the gig! I'm free Friday night - so about to cover any problems/gear breakdowns if you call. There is the SEDA meet up Sunday, and sounds like an interesting meeting. Anyone in Herts/Essex will be welcome to come with me, and there is normally a 2nd hand table and retailer present. PM if you'd like to come with me. Cheers, Jas

gadget 0
I've got a High School Reunion Friday Night, which I'm looking forward to! 1985-1990 is the order of the day, however can go beyond the years - and requests for early 80s stuff have also been received too! I may throw in some old 80s tracks like The Firm - Star Trekkin' and other bizarre stuff too.. (which was #1 wasnt it?). I've been re-arranging my massive mixer/cd flight case to reduce the number of boxes to carry in (well that was the theory anyway!). It will also be the first time my "new" full rig will be used. Ultimax deckstand with overhead. 2 x datamoons, 2 x soundlab dmx scanners and an acme dynaroll in the centre. Hopefully will also have space and take both ADJ Par Pro 38b's with me. Not sure where I'm going to put them yet, however! Sound-wise I've bought a peavey pro powered subwoofer, and going to see if this fits in the car (or not!), and a s/h berry crossover for it, so that and the pair of PRO 15 tops. I've been offered a pair of active w-audio psr12a's for 300 notes... which I am considering! - will reduce size of tops and one less flightcase with the main and backup amp to take). wizard 0
Last night was a wedding at South Farm......which is in the middle of nowhere. the venue had a sound limiter which was set at 85db which was awful considering they were into 90's dance music and the last song of the night was Sandstorm by Darude........thought the limiter was going to fall off the wall :joe: Saturday another wedding at a Hotel not far from the middle of nowhere. This is an all day affair leave home at 9 am and back at 2 am. It's going to be a long day ! The oldest swinger in town....... probably. Draconic Pride 0
a surprise 30th for me on Saturday For you? lol. Has someone let the cat out the bag? :P Was just my usual residency last night night for me. Not working tonight, instead off out with the missus to her work's christmas party. Oh, she's lying next to me reading what I'm typing and I've just been informed that it's not a christmas party. She's let me think it is though the evil woman. Thought it was a bit strange that someone would be holding a christmas party in mid September. Feel like a right idiot now! Anyway, back to the matter in hand. Working tomorrow doing sound for 2 bands then it's my residency :) It's all fun fun fun fun

gadget 0
Friday night reunion Party was pretty good - although most seemed to stay right at the back of the venue rather than coming forward towards the dance floor area. Bad Points... * Somehow manage to lose my USB DMX controller, so ended up using the NJD datacon1 to control the datamoons - and it did a half decent job of the soundlab scanners - even though it was pan only (no tilt), not that anyone really noticed! Gobos and colour choices were a bit limited (could access them all at the same time as the datamoons's gobo). * Fog machine interferred with the laptop which caused the USB to shutdown, causing a moment's silence... which was a bit of a nightmare - had to stop, unplug, replug the Maya44 back in and reload the track and then restart from about where it stopped. Really annoying. * Acme Dynaroll - could not get this to focus whatsoever. Gobos always looked blurred. Can anyone confirm if the focus-lens is a big hole with one lens at the bottom or does it have two lenses - - one at the bottom and another near the thumb-ring section? How far do you adjust the focus ring - is it all the way out mostly or all the way in? * My Roadready 10x6u case is too heavy (and too bulky) - even heavier now I moved the DSP8024 into it and installed a cx2310 crossover in there. I need a gator case that will reduce the overall weight by about 11k (and much better for my back!). Good Points:- * This was the first time I've manged to use my deckstand as I planned it to, with two datamoons, two scanners and a dynaroll as the centre piece. Quite impressed with the setup and look - even if I forgot to plug the starcloth in *dammit* * Tried out my new Peavey Pro P Sub MkII (active, also matches with the Pro 15's I use), worked qutie well. Only had the sub on about 10'oclock which was more than enough... perhaps a little bit too bottomy, so backed off the 40hz and below a bit on the DSP8024... Overall pretty happy though soundwise. Main amp seemed a lot cooler and happier... * Manage to fit *everything* in the Nissan Note, almost like a jigsaw puzzle. Was qutie surprised that I got the Sub via the rear passenger side door (in, and swing around). The only non-flightcased item is the dynaroll and a pair of Par 38B's.. * Soundlab Colourscans - First time I've used these on a gig other than testing in the office. WOW! Ok so I had no tilt (see above), but the sharpness and colours and brightness were just amazing.. I also love the split colours.. Looked good. I managed to buy these brand new (never been used), the only issue was the "dirty" flight case, which tbh, doesn't matter anyway.. Improvements:- * Change mixer flightcase asap to something lighter and a bit smaller. * Get active cabs ASAP, and ideally 12inch ones - as I now have main amp and backup amp in the one 4u flight case.. I potentially could get a s/h pair of w-audio PSR12a's for about 300 notes (if they're still available that is). Ok they're a bit on the heavy side, but removing the 25-30kg weight of the two amps is surely going to be a lot better (for my back too!). * Need to get a decent radio mic. Probably first on my list above the flightcase, as I need a decent one that will cover the entire of a big hall - Running an overly long mic lead isn't really an option (unless in emergency that is!). gadget 0
Wizard: Nice photos. What are the moonflowers you're using? Puts my two photos to shame! That is a massive low-level fog machine! wizard 0
The moonflowers are Magic Gobos. Cheap 100w things but they do the job, and they run off a CA8 controller which is nice and easy. The low fog machine is the Skytec 1kw DMX model, it is the only cheap one that I have found that gives a decent output. Unfortunately it was rather cold in the room so the fog did not stay as low as usual....as can be seen in the picture.....but it was good enough The oldest swinger in town....... probably. Needless to say I had a tad too much to drink and ended up sleeping till it was time to go to work on Sunday! Was one mad rush and I felt like crap! Monday, still had a pounding head. Today, still got my pounding head. Urgh.
