  1. I don't generally have a problem with playlists - OK there is the odd one where they go really specialised (which can still work if the majority of their guests are of the same mindset) but in the main they allow me to create a unique function for the client by combining their favourite tracks with those of their guests On occasions I have had brides ask me if I would mind them enclosing a song request slip in the with invitation - I don't and have even supplied the request slips for them to send. Here's what I've found: Not every guest will fill one in so if 100 go out you won
  2. I don't have a problem with allowing it at wedding receptions. I make sure there are no trailing cables (for my benefit too) and it's far better than talking to someone over the barrier that is a DJ rig. I know some DJs who work from the front for this very reason but I've tried that - didn't suit me. Sometimes guests will just lean over the front to make a request but others are interested in how everything works, want a chat and occasionally want to have a go themselves (not always possible but in the right circumstances is OK). If someone is intoxicated then I'll meet
  3. Welcome along Eddie - to cover some of your points - if you are going to start charging money then you need to tell the Inland Revenue. Public Liability Insurance is not a legal requirement however some venues will insist you have it and in this day and age of claim before blame you would be wise to have it. Portable Appliance Testing is also a wise move as without it your PLI may be invalid. That's the easy bit over - now you have to get the bookings!
  4. There isn't and never has been a policy of removing members simply because they don't post. There are some areas where you need a minimum post count before you can post in them (Items for sale & Gigs Wanted) but apart from that you have no restrictions.

    Ava Maria

I think that is the traditional one Dan (& the one I played for 30 mins on loop - 11 times in all :hphone: )

    Ava Maria

I've just received this email - can anyone help? Just on a side note (but related) A few days ago I did a ceremony where they wanted a version of this song played on loop for 10 minutes before the brides arrival (& nothing else). Unfortunately she was 20 minutes late and so all the guests (& me) had to listen to it for half an hour. For ages afterwards I had the song still playing in my head now I can't remember a bit of it - brain's gone into protection mode :scared:
  7. From my understanding the MCPS ProDub licence covers the act of transfering the music from one medium to another (not all mediums though - some are exempt) and you then use this new medium to play music and make money from doing so. You don't need a PPL licence if all your events are private however part of the new licence from MCPS includes a cut for PPL so in these cases you will be paying for something (in part) that you don't need.
  8. Here's the latest interview - I give you Reverandfunk! 1. What is your DJU Forum Alias? Reverandfunk 2. What is your Real Name, Age, Location & Marital Status? Karl, 39, Just outside Brum, co-habiting 3. What is the Name of your Disco? The Usual Suspects 4. How long have you been a DJ? 4 years 5. What inspired you to become a DJ? Was working in a bar in Gran Canaria and the karaoke DJ hadn't got cover for his night off, so I said show me how it works and I'll do it. I'd never sung before lol 6. Are you a Full/Part Time DJ? If part time what else do
  9. I would say it's giving the client and their guests exactly what they want.
  10. I was in a similar position a few years ago. I'd found a tape player in my store, gave it a quick test and on the night played the tape without a problem. Later in the evening I was asked to play it again - I suspect the heat generated from leaving it on for 3 hours had softened the already old belts and this time it was s l o w, s l o w, quick quick s l o w. The people on the dancefloor were keeping up with the varying tempo and I was quite surprised I didn't get any strange looks or comments :joe:
  11. I thought the forum had been a bit quiet :joe: Glad you managed to survive them all. What was the Red Bull bill?
  12. Booking Form (with T&Cs) and Booking Fee for me. When everything is written down and signed by both parties then there's no confusion or cause for a difference of opinion on what was agreed when the booking was taken.
  13. I was at a regular venue last night and the staff were telling me that another DJ who had been in a few nights before had set up a light at the opposite end of the room and it covered the ceiling and walls with small red circles. From the description they gave me the light would've been about the size of a tissue box, was placed on top of a tripod and they didn't think it was a laser (my theory). None of them had seen anything like it before and thought it was impressive. Any ideas?
  14. Check out the DJU Knowledge Base and have a read of all the topics on here - you'll soon catch up!! Welcome to DJU smile icon
  15. I worked alongside Elvis a few years ago - I played the backing tracks and he used my radio mic smile icon My last 2 weddings both had other entertainment. On Saturday it was a solo singer/guitarist and last night a Ceilidh Band. The biggest problem at some venues is space as I like to set-up at the same time and be ready to start the moment they finish.
  16. Maybe wait until the Mk II version and hope it will either have more letters available or allow multiple messages so in the example given it would be: Congratulations to Jennifer and Matthew from all your family etc etc - now this would be a more useful effect
  17. Ok we all know that men get far worse colds than women - fact! At the moment I have one of those that doesn't seem to want to end and is as severe as any winter one - certainly the worst I have ever experienced in the middle of summer. Anyone else?
  18. OK you've started so here's some questions: Is there a limit to the number of letters you can program for any one message - if so how many? How much does it weigh? Some photos please.
  19. Welcome to DJU - there's a few other DJs from your area already on here. As for experiences with agents - yes, and I suspect many of us have.
  20. Well we all know that here on DJU we don't use this facility to run down a fellow DJs business - esp if he is not a member and doesn't have the 'right of reply'. In this case the topic was allowed to run as the initial poster asked the question 'Is This Right?' in relation to the claims made on the site. If we stick to this aspect of the topic then I don't see a problem. As a general observation what I will add about any business is if they attempt to gain customers by scare tactics, negative points, running down their competition or lecturing them then they (t
