  4. Hi I always stand... If ever I sit down it's only during a song on the edge of the table where my CDs are which doesn't really count as I'm still at a reasonable height. the guy I DJ with used to sit down while I was doing my shift at the decks, until I asked him if I could bring his paper and slippers. He's stood ever since. I went to a freiends Wedding last year where the DJ was operating his laptop and was sat down, I was so tempted to give him the paper and slippers line. I just think it gives the impression that you couldn't give a toss. And standing up means you can

  9. Hi I thought this forum was above all this one-upmanship, my sounds system is better than yours, lark. We're supposed to be professionals. Don't sneer at someone because they don't use the same system as you. Any sound system is only as good as the DJ operating it. some like the Bose, some don't, some don't even like it when they know stuff all about it, fine, all of you just live with it whichever way you lean. However, this is meant to be a thread about other's that are using the Bose, everyone else, start a thread about how are you getting on with your "insert own sounds s

  11. Hi I'm with BT £22.99 a month 2mb never had a problem, well only with the useless tech support. Regarding Bulldog, they were on Watchdog a few months ago as being one of the worst providers. Darren
  12. Hi last gig for 300 in a marquee 2 x mackie 450's 2 x Skytec 400s subs Pioneer cmx5000 cd player and Citronic 10/4 mixer laptop 4 x evl spins Only reason we took the base bins was because it was an outside gig and just sounds better. Only only people who need to feel the music are the dancer and I've had enough of blinding people with lighting that, on the whole they don't give a toss about as long as it's prity. And I charge £320 minimum for Weddings. And I'm busier now than I've ever been. it's about performance not equipment, as long as the equipment is pro. Darr

  14. Hi folks I just received a newsletter from Sean D’Souza from Psycho Tactics, and thought I’d post his article here. Darren Ps I posted the whole article as the web site that it came from is a membership site, however, Sean graciously lets anyone reuse. Pps Woops, first time around I didn't paste in the full article, no wonder it seems a bit confusing :) sorry. ========== How Gravity Can Ruine Or Make Your Business by Sean D’Souza ========== The year was 2000. I was more scared than a rabbit on the Pampas. You see, I'd just moved to New Zealand. I'd always been in a
  15. Hi Ok let's go through the different systems available... Free Web Builder... Fairly basic but gets the job done. Write in your text, select your layout template and colour scheme and publish. virtually nothing in terms of customisation. Licenced version: Same as free but contains much more in the way of variety and design features, still dead simple point and click though. CMS: CMS has a bit of a learnign curve involved, but once you have the principles clear, it's a much more flexible system. alows you to run news feeds, plug in subscription and membership features, has
  16. Hi Yes, can do that easily. Can either plug in a free version that does the job but is fairly basic. A version that I would have to purchased a yearly licence for that is still pish easy but with a lot more customisation and functionality. Or on the higher end packes, a CMS, Content management System that has a Website builder included and handles all your link structures and lay out etc. I'm just looking into that now and the system I'm trying out appears outstanding. I'll keep you updated... I'd be building an online help system that will be pretty comprehensive and will o
  17. Hi Cheers, some great feedback here. To be honest, I love the DJ Intelligence system, I think it's worth every penny, but looking under the hood of it, it's not as sophisticated as they make it sound. all their interactive pages are generated in Frontpage, which just requite some kind of database system, which is what MySQL is designed for. I could certainly look at contracting a programmer to give you some of the DJ Intelligence functionality. Especially the music database. Other features I'd be looking at offering as part of a package would be... Free Web Site builder A
  18. Hi the last figures I have re guide dogs are that it costs approximately £40,000 to train a guide dog, not sure how much the dog gets out of that but that's another story. However, for the working life of the dog it costs approximately £200,000 - now these figures are from when I owned a guide dog about 5 years ago, so they've likely increased since then. Darren
  19. Hi folks I'm currently in the process of setting up a new business offering web site hosting, and other related internet marketing services. Now, as far as hosting and programming are concerned there is virtually nothing I couldn't integrate into the service other than actual web design services, I'd contract that out if it were required. So my burning question would be What would you want from a web host that you're not getting now. I certainly know a ton of hosts that just give you a ton of web space and you're expected to just get on with it. My intention would be to offer
  20. Hi Ah right, well, it kind of explains itself as it goes along, so there actually no need to see the example. Just give it a shot. I promise it's simple, and really does clear up your thinking if you just can't decide. Darren
  21. Hi Do you mean you don't understand what it is, why it's there or how it works, or all of the aforementioned lol Darren
  22. Hi =====off topic===== Cheers, it's been a manic few months and it's good to be contributing again. =====off topic===== I'll be posting something in the internet forum soon about web site promotion from the perspective of DJs and entertainers, so keep your eyes open for it. I'm even getting less work from yell.com now, the referrals from the site are about the same, but Google and MSN are my main source of bookings as far as net traffic is concerned. Darren
  23. Hi Here's how I do it... My Wedding Page. Will a cake make you get up and dance? Darren
  24. Hi Couldn't give a stuff, I'm dumping yellow Pages next time around, get near zero bookings and 100% I want a cheap DJ calls from it. Three cheers for the internet! Darren
  25. Hi all Well, since my new web site went up and started establishing itself, the bookings just started storming in, and now we've got a regular venue that will only recommend us which is great to hear. I'm now in a position where I can ditch yellow pages as 99% of new bookings go directly through the web site and a large proportion of that traffic comes straight from Google and MSN searches. Traffic has shot from about 300 visitors a months to an average now of 1800 visitors a month. I'm now looking at setting up several other businesses based around web site marketing for small bus
