Gary 0
RAIN !!!! thank the heavens! Im been really hacked off with crowds of wedding guests opting for the garden (out of speaker range) rather than the function room, for them to sit, drink, gossip, and munch... so rain is good! lightnings even better. Saturday. Wedding withn2 x first records and a play list of 4 hours worth of music...at least its good party music. Sunday: PLASA...(somehow) all my travel plans are now in pieces as my historicallly unreliable mate proves that history repeats itself. I hate trying to get from Waterloo to sodding Earls Court. Maybe they should shift PLASA to the NEC Birmingham.

DJTREV 0
Last night(Friday)was a brilliant modern jive night. We were celebrating our "2nd birthday" and it was nice to have a packed floor all night. Not only that it was a "back to school" dress night as well and practically everyone entered into the spirit of the night and got dressed for the occasion. Tonight its back to the bread and butter work- its a 30th birthday. If the crowd are half as enthusiastic it will be a good night. We will wait and see!! This is not a rehearsal This is it - grab it while you can.
ChrisPointon 0
Last nights gig was at the Marriot Hotel, Worsley near Manchester. Quite a reasonable hotel, but we were surprised to find the place packed with coaches, Security and Press http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/scared.gif . It turned out that the Man Utd Team were staying there that night, hence the blaze of publicity and the coach load of door staff built like brick sh*thouses!. Other than that, the function was about average at best, and notably over run with screaming under 10's, all out of control - Gary's comment about their parents not giving a damn rang so true, and I couldn't believe it when they still allowed their kids to slide around on the dancefloor when the Bride and Groom were having their first dance, at one point the groom nearly fell over them, not good http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/nono.gif . I asked the kids to stay off the dancefloor and was told by one kid to "F off", nice, a career in politics for him beckons I think http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/rolleyes.gif . Highlight of the night was when one of the unattended little darlings fell into the outside fountain (I hadn't pushed him...honest), but despite him looking like a drowned rat and everybody having a laugh about it, had the water been deeper or the child had been younger it could have so easily resulted in a tragedy especially in the dark. Honestly, some people don't deserve to be parents. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/188.gif Still, at least the Man Utd team were good enough to take them off our hands for 30 mins whilst they signed autographs. Shame they wouldn't let the adults through!, I wonder how much I would have got for a set of Autographs on Ebay? http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/whistling.gif . Another 1Am finish, and of course everybody had gone home by 12.00, apart from the obligatory table of 6 at the back. Tonight, I'm visiting Family, so a trip to the chippy, a DVD and an early night in rediness for the early start to the Plasa tomorrow.
Paul Smith 0
Oh Dear, I thought, as I drove through the gates of a private castle last night. 100 years ago this was probably the bees knees for social life in the area but now needs a few £million invested. The gates would probably fall off if anyone attempted to close them, the drive was more pot-holes than solid and as it had rained solidly for most of the day they were full of water. I crawled up at less than walking pace (it took around 5 minutes) and was directed to the courtyard at the back. The courtyard was a combination of cobbles & mud and the venue was an old coach house attached to the rear of the castle. I couldn't get close to the access door with the trailer and made an instant decision to reduce the rig size for that night - given a choice I would've drove straight home http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/sad.gif Whilst setting up the B&G came over to talk to us. They had hired out the back end of this castle because as the bride put it - she didn't want a 'package' wedding. On Monday of this week the venue had been full of tractors & farm implements. The B&G and a few friends/family had then spent 4 days tranforming it into what it was that evening - 100s of yards of white fabric adorned the ceiling & walls in a marquee style with fairy lights; they'd even painted the floor white. My initial thoughts that this was someone attempting to have a wedding on the cheap were soon dispelled. The cost of this conversion & the time involved, the attention to detail and the £3000 (wholesale) free bar bore testiment to this. In fact the whole event as far as the B&G were concerned was 'look after our guests'. I started bang on time at 8.30 with the 1st dance & half-way through it the floor filled with other guests who couldn't wait any longer. The guests had travelled from Scotland (lots of kilts), England, Wales, Thailand, Spain and were there to enjoy the event to the full. At 9.30 I announced that all the guests had to leave and congregate at the front of the castle. As they left the B&G stood on either side of the door, shook each by the hand and thanked them for coming http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/scared.gif The poor guests didn't know what was happening http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif but once outside were treated to what can only be described as a spectacular fireworks display. 30 mins later they were back and we partied until 1.30am. And what a party, the combination of lots of free ale, a totally relaxed atmosphere, lots of banter and the unusual venue gave this event the 'X' factor and although I've had some great wedding receptions this year so far (& some not so great), this one was without doubt the best http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif Tonight it's back to the 'Package' wedding reception which after last night will be hard to follow but I'll try my best http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif PaulS

Gary 0
Ha! well the chances of me being able to play all 3~4 hours worth of the bride & grooms pre~gig requests were slim already. However, as they were expecting the gig to start at 8pm, and they're still on speeches, I dont think that even half their list is gonna happen somehow. I take an hour to set up once everyones out, the buffets at 9:30, and it ends at 12... Blame it on the weatherman...?
