  1. Hi Rory, Welcome to the forum, where are you based?
  2. Hi and welcome, very happy to have a sound guy in the forum, we all need advice from time to time.
  3. I Agree with Dukesy that you probably don’t have a chance of claiming. Again like Dukesy, I would never leave my gear in the truck. But I also agree with you, is seems unfair to advertise a security measure they don’t have. I think in your place I might do a little on-line research. See if you can find “ECP Groups” Managing Director. Then write him a polite email or letter, explaining what happened. Believe it or not some of these companies do believe in customer service. If that does not work find their facebook page (if they have one) and post your story there. Good Luck,
  4. I agree definitely sounds like a “Ground Loop”. I had the same problem and a pair of Ground Loop Isolators cured it for me. Look at the link below (to Amazon), and remember you will need an Isolator for each input. I use a Denon HC4500 so I have two isolators, one for each channel. http://www.amazon.co.uk/ground-loop-isolat...ator&page=1
  5. Hi Jason, Having a partner a good thing, extra help, advice and back-up. But going solo is the only way to make money and have your own creative influence. Congratulations and welcome to the forum.
  6. Hi Chris, From one fulltimer to another, welcome to the forum. DJing is a GREAT life. :djuhi:
  7. I have a mix of LED and “Real Lights.” I think they both have a place in a light show; the trick is using them in the right place. For anything that projects movement, I like fixtures with lamps. OK they are heavier and need care when hot, but they are just better, and brighter. I use Martin MX4’s and a Smartmac, but I also have older Martin fixtures like Robocolour and Zaps. For up-lighting and under table lighting I use LED’s. In this situation they are better. In any circumstances where lights could be accessed by kids (or drunks :scared: ) I will ONLY use LED’s, as they don’t get
  8. I remember a club in Dudley, opposite the zoo; I think it was upstairs and call Pandora’s. I also think there was another club further up the hill, but I’m not sure about that one. A friend of mine installed the sound system at Pandora’s in the late 70’s or early 80’s. But I knew the clubs around Kidderminster and Kingswinford better. At the Moment San Diego sounds good, I am in Lake Tahoe which is a ski resort. We have a few feet of snow and it’s COLD. I have to say it is beautiful here though.
  9. I second that, BACK IT UP. If you are downloading music and lose the MP3’s, you’ll have to buy them again (expensive lesion). But even if you are burning your CD collection, and still have the music, there is a lot of time invested. I had a notebook crash and fry its hard drive; fortunately I did have everything backed up. It was a hassle reloading, but at least I still had everything. At the moment I have about 18,500 tracks and always carry a back-up hard drive to gigs.
  10. Welcome to the forum, it's great place to ask questions and get idea's.
  11. I have both PCDJ-VJ and PCDJ-Dex but prefer VJ, it’s a great program, very stable and user friendly. I believe PCDJ have dropped VJ now, but PCDJ-Dex is also a great choice. I will switch over to Dex one day, just need to find the time to set up all my folders. There are also loads of skins for Dex and new one’s coming out all the time.
  12. Hi There, Welcome to the Forum. How's the Dudley area? I started out DJing just down the road from you, in Kiddermister, and then Worcester before moving back to Stourbridge. I crossing the Atlantic in 2002 and now DJ in California, a little different from the Merry Hill. I agree with other posts here, great to be passing on your skills, and even better when it’s to a family member.
  13. I will start by saying, if you compare any “compact speaker system” with a good 18” bass bin and mids, you’re gonna be disappointed. But there comes a time where smaller is better, (even if the sound is not quite as good). I have never been a fan of powered speakers, but I recently purchased a pair of QSC K10’s for wedding ceremonies. I also rent them out for “IPod” Parties and I have to say they are incredible little speakers (1,000 watts per speaker!!!). If you are considering powered speakers, I would highly recommend the QSC range, look at the K12’s with bass bins.
  14. I believe that some of the Behringer Eurorack mixers had a “Voice Canceller” built in. It was designed to produce a Karaoke tracks from the original recordings. I am not sure how well it worked. Just an idea, and I am sure KJ's will have a better solution.
  15. Actually I don’t miss the beer, (much prefer a good US pale ale). But I do miss a good pub. There are plenty of bars pretending to be pubs, but no matter how they try, there is nowhere in the world I have ever found a really pub. A pub is a very British thing, that somehow just can’t be copied. You are right about basic TV here, but it’s free and no TV License. If you are willing to pay, the TV here is great; we even get all the UK channels. As for petrol (gas here), I have a 5.8 V8 Toyota pick-up truck, with a 24 gallon tank. I filled up yesterday at 3 dollars a gallon (just unde
  16. How I miss the UK!!! tongue out icon Actually I do miss a good Indian restaurant
  17. I agree, I always ask for a "Playlist" and a "Don't Play" list. I explain to my clients it's just a guide, and I will take requests on the night.
  18. I feel for you, but keep working at it. What I found is that eventually someone will look to change it up, and you just have to be ready.
  19. Thanks for the update. I often wonder if you guys are playing the same stuff that side of the “Pond”
  20. Hi Steve and welcome, You think it’s different there, I moved to California from Birmingham (UK), wow. At least there speak the language here, sort of!
  21. One of the clubs here has a DJM 800 installed, great mixer, almost indestructible. It gets used by many different DJ, about six nights a week, and believe me some of them are not to careful. Always the same when their not buying the stuff. I use it when I’m there, last Saturday the last time, and I really like it. I have Denons for my mobile set-ups, but would highly recommend the Pioneer DJM 800
  22. I have not offered up-lighting in the past, for the very reasons stated in this thread. However, we now offer LED par cans, and I really like them. We started with Chauvet RAIN56 Spot, which we OK, but the actual casing was very easy to dent. When Chauvet released the Slimpar we switched over. The Slimpar is only 2.5 inched deep, DMX controlled with static colours or Built-in programs. Depending on what other lighting we are using, I have them is controlled via a Martin DMX board or computer software, and even sometimes in stand alone mode. LED’s are the way to go.
  23. I am sure I've made more than my fair share too
