Welsh Audio Man 21 0
QUOTE (DJF @ Aug 9 2006, 03:52 PM) dont like sitting down while working as you cant see the crowd or people sitting trying to enjoy themselves good point.... Kingy 0
I don't really see sitting down to work as un-professional, it's just that individuals choice. I stand when working, but occasionally rest on the CD tables behind me, like darren (?) suggests. If a band is on or something else, I tend to sit just out of site of the public. DJ Foureyes 0
QUOTE (High Fidelity @ Aug 9 2006, 11:37 AM) I normally only sit down during the buffet break or background music at the start while the guests are arriving. Even then, I usually try to hide for my sit down. I couldn't agree more. I like to be as visable and approachable as possible and feel that by sitting, especially if someone is approaching, shows that perhaps you are not 100% on the ball.
scotty 0
Stand, Stand, Stand !!! http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/tongue.gif If YOU are sitting down, why should your audience get up and dance ? http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/533.gif Scotty KING OF DISCOS We're what parties were invented for ! Andy Westcott 0
I have always stood - I can't imagine trying to DJ from the sitting position. As mentioned earlier, I have CDs and records scattered everywhere, and couldn't reach them easily if sat down. In any case, I'd disappear behind my hideous light boxes if I sat. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/wacko.gif
Award Entertainment 0
I always stand. I feel that sitting makes the DJ look disinterested and uninvolved.
bluejools 0
me, stand and dance all night... i enjoy the music i play and want that to show through.... there have been numerous occasions where people (uninvited) will come round to dance with me... because i have been going all night. i will perch on the edge of CD table, and occasionally crouch to stretch the back.... but that is it. I dont think DJ's should sit, it just looks wrong.
Jimbo55 0
How do you communicate to the crowd sitting down? I enjoy my music and can't help myself dancing. Ok I will agree that I may look a prat at times dancing to YMCA and a few well known others (got caught doing a Hula dance last weekend). It helps me keep 'alive' behind the decks. Sometimes I can get caught out and be dancing to the track cueing in my head phones but it all adds to the fun. Longest I have ever been on my feet was 13hrs with one toilet break (I still stood for that one http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/rolleyes.gif ) Yes it killed me and my legs hurt like crazy for a few days. When doing karaoke I do a lot of audience work and spend little time behind the stand I did one gig sitting down because I had a minor op the day before and its the only gig I have ever sat down at. Felt like crap and the op was not planned. At the time I was not a member of DJU or it would have been passsed to one of you guys http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/thumbup.gif Jimbo Digital Fusion Entertainments Bose L1 system user. Jimbo Nice to know I'm not the only one making himself look a http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/censored2.gif . I did a show last week sitting down, due to a slipped disc giving me hell. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/014.gif I apologised to the landlady and audience at the start and explained why I was sitting when I am usually up and prancing around. It felt really odd. http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/huh.gif You want me to play what? Paul Smith 0
An interesting thread and dare I say it the L1 gets mentioned again in a totally unrelated way (is anyone that skinny http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/smile.gif ) I always stand and I always take my own 'stand' as well (that's as in mixer stand). One exception earlier this year when I used a venue supplied table which was only about 6" (15cm for those imperially challenged) lower than my normal operating height. I found that half way through the gig I had an ache in the lower part of my back. So that's my tip for those that find it uncomfortable - get an organ stand (waits for smutty comments http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/whistling.gif ) and adjust it to suit you - best £14 you could spend. I have seen a number of DJs that sit. One problem is they get comfy and then fold their arms, stretch their legs out and look as if they don't want to be there - fed up even. My quote for today "If you want the guests to be on their feet then lead by example"
tezandbaz 0
hi again. thanks for all your comments regarding posture position at venues, certaintly all without exception all take up a standing position, it was a question i asked because many years ago when factory made turntable platforms were not availible then venue tables were used and of couse were set at sitting height. thanks again...... http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif two old codgers who at our age should know better.(G7AJG)

bigMCben 0
I personally think that sitting down does look lazy and unprofessional and I used to sit on the edge of a table, but I now use a stool, similar in height to a bar stool, so you can still rest those weary legs, but are still high enough to be seen, and for people like Wanye, it might actually improve their situation http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif
