Steve_Mitchell 0
I have to say I am looking forward to 1 July I breath of fresh air. Ditto. I have noticed a lot of venues are putting the law into practice now and have asked the smokers to go outside or to a designated area. Good idea and gets the punters used to it early and iron out teething problems. Alot are not bothering though nor are the punters. One massive change coming their way lol. High Fidelity 0
I've tried searching the net to find out exactly what is covered and what is exempt, but can't can't seem to find a definitive answer anywhere. Apart from the members bar in the houses of parliament which is exempt. For instance. My local social club that I go to as a punter is a membership club. You have to show your membership to get in. To my mind, this is not "public", so would not come under this law. I think the committee are thinking the same. A wedding or birthday party is a private function and is therefore not "public", so I would have thought these would not come under this law. However, I suspect that a lot of venues will become no smoking buildings just to be seen to be "PC". Where my wife works, they have made their site no smoking, so your not even allowed to smoke within the grounds either. Quitting Smoking & Drinking doesn't make you live longer It just feels like it. My understanding (from speaking to someone who runs a private memers club) is that 'homes' are exempt eg prisions, old peoples homes, care homes and the MP's bar. I don't think you have an exemption there. My guess is that the enforcement officers will be paying close attention to 'social clubs'.
Bolan-Boogie 0
Have to be honest it came into action here in Wales on the 2nd of April and it seems to have gone problem free. Its nice to go into a pub and not come home smelling like 20 Benson & Hedges

Paul Smith 0
We're 3rd in line for this legislation (30th April) and from my observations no venues have made any plans for this apart from put notices up. Two venues here have had a no smoking policy for the last 18 months and their solution is to place 2 stick ashtrays just outside the entrance which is a nightmare when trying to take gear in as the smokers crowd around the door esp if it's cold/raining. Welsh Audio Man 21 0
as allready mentioned... it has allready come into force here in wales. And is working, except for when your room looks half empty, because everyone has gone out for a fag! It has made me cut down alot, because i have one before starting, but can't leave my equipment then throughout the night, so can't have another one until the end of the night. Starting to cope, just about!
jamminroadshow 0
Never smoked and i hope that i never will but i do not like the fact that they make something legal then ban you from it. If smoking is that bad for us all why is it legal still. i have a little song wonder if it will catch on "God gave us free will tony took it off us again" sung to polly put the kettle on. I have now heard that they are looking at changing the drinking age to 21 bye bye 18th partys for us then also driving is set to move to 18. Pay tax from 16 but have no power till 18 seems wrong to me
pdarnett 0
Lots of my venues have put it in place already, and i'm loving the fact that after the first dance almost the entire room goes outside, leaving the dancefloor empty. It doesn't just affect the smokers, when the smokers go outside, their friends, spouses etc, will join them, especially when these venues have heated outdoor areas etc. So the plan to make smokers social lepers, stood outside on their own, is not working. bigMCben 0
Having worked with the smoking ban for 13 months now I can state that it's great. No more cleaning yellow gunge from the air vents on your amps or around other equipment. In the morning your clothes don't smell like an old ashtray. The only downside, and it's a particularly big downside, is that scanners/moonflowers/etc look :poo: . You definitely need a smoke machine, although many venues still don't have a fire alarm system that can cope with them, so Par 56 floods or similar, perhaps even lightboxes and columns, will probably become essential. I look forward to hearing from you all in Englandshire on your experiences once these measures come into effect. I meant to say that's the other thing you have to get used to, when you're playing a floor filler and the dance floor is empty, in fact the room is virtually empty. Don't worry, it's not you, although I admit that for the first few weeks I thought my DJing skills were rapidly going downhill. (No comments required, thank you)

If in doubt go along to your local hospital and talk to those about to die, or have having legs amputated, and then ask yourself the above question again.
